a question I asked got only 6 views superuser.com/questions/850309/… am I doing something wrong?
It just got 7 views but that was 'cos I viewed it again to check the link!

12:32 AM
@barlop it is sort of confusing , title is a bit technical but non descriptive of the actual need. Restrict firewall allows to specific Ip addresses/groups of addresses? And have this occur when the standard "yes or no" requester pops up? There many firewall programs that you can select other than just the "program" , like where the program is connecting , what port. like windows firewall notifier can do that, but it does not have a enter the group of IPs , you would have to do that in
microsoft firewall interface.
Windows firewall notifier , is just a simple interface like "zone alarm" style TO the windows firewall. Plus settings to actually turn the firewall ON :-) vrses the let everything do whatever method.
But it is not configurable in that way , other than saying YES or NO again to the specific ONE address (and or ports) it is connecting to.
I think most people would end up applying a 3rd party firewall item anyways. I just wont when it makes a mess of 2 items and "firewalls Must get inbetween", so when it breaks you get nothing. So i prefer to fix the one that is there, and attempt to use it.

12:52 AM
It looks like there are also other 3rd party GUI interfaces and control for the windows built in firewall, could be one of them makes it some easier to edit on demand other than the messy windows thing. one called "windows firewall control"
This is an excellent "pictures" of what WFN looks like howtogeek.com/113641/…
(from the link) see you can restrict more selectivly but not edit that restriction.
If a person had static addresses :-) and there was One address or 2-3 then setting to allow those would be simply making 2-3 rules. but it is just a bloody mess when there is way more rules.

1:18 AM
"windows firewall control" has editing in the "notification" but you do not even get to see notifications (or how that would work) without activating the program first , youtube.com/watch?v=Wpsnf_pbGMM yaawn , skipping through this video shows how it works, looks like it could set a group of addresses..

@Bob :D

@Psycogeek hi, sorry for not replying sooner I wasn't at the screen. You write "Restrict firewall allows to specific Ip addresses/groups of addresses? And have this occur when the standard "yes or no" requester pops up?" <-- I mean I create the rule for that. No yes/no requestor.
I will reply to any further responses when i'm at the screen though i'm not always at the screen Ta
I see I was also asking about for when a program makes a request.. so the yes/no dialog appearing, but I want the default to be LAN only for when I say yes. The windows firewall makes the default All connections. My issue isn't just for program requests though it's for creating a rule manually too. the default I want to be LAN only

@barlop So that would mean setting the "local address" also ? not just the remote address. In the question it seemed like you did not care what type the "profile" was public private domain ? Then there is the "interface" wireless or local.
Looking at it closer (no wonder why i avoid most of it and treat everything public) It is the usual Microsoft requester, where you have 8 layers of stuff that potentially could be in one single sheet of radio buttons. 3rd party programmers who get tired of microsofts interface method were always good at putting more things on one page.
So a notification pops up, based on a firewall event, your presented with a 1/2 the screen :-) page of Buttons, that Stay where they were the last time you adjusted them, you change 3 of them, push the "all in that subnet" button and a single rule is created in one move.
The information (of course) filled in for the most part by the firewall event that triggered it.

4:10 AM
Then to address the different things that different people would want to adjust, a whole array of options could exist in the program so Buttons are shown or not. each person could configure the notification display any way they wanted. it could even be configured to be the Lameo One that MS thinks everyone needs.
That is pretty much the way microsoft used to do things themselves. before a focus group , and an art designer , started selecting the interfaces that we All Will Have :-)
We just need to get microsoft back on track.
Windows 21

As smart as you need it

Thanks for putting your stupid loading overlay over the area where I could enable Flash O___o
So I had an interesting conversation with a supplier about this image:
Is it just me or is that image distorted?
As in, the image on the display

Hmm, it it looks like an oval.
But it might very well be a perfect circle since or brains do interesting things.

12:42 PM
@Hennes It's not ;)
This is a company that makes display solutions and their response to my first image was "We see no problem here". At first I didn't even know how to respond
And now I'm looking into interfacing with a certain software. Their documentation starts out like "we can accept any data from anywhere". After reading more, you arrive at "we can accept any data from anywhere as long as it's a movie rendered from a .swf file"

1:32 PM
OK, so I changed it
I have a laptop that has 250 GB harddisk... I want to have 80 GB NTFS for Windows 7 number 1, 15 GB EXT4 partition for Ubuntu 13.10 and 140 GB NTFS partition for Windows 7 number 2... Now I have only Windows 7 number 1 installed... Is it gonna be OK when I will first install Ubuntu on 15 GB partition and then as the last one... Windows 7 number on 140 GB NTFS partition?
Will GRUB loader stay as the only loader when I first install Ubuntu which will add GRUB loader to my laptop... and only then Windows 7 number 2?

Hmm, windows 7 #2 might kill the grub setup. Windows seems to be rather single minded when installing bootloaders.
Discalaimer: XP and older where so horrible with it that I never installed windows and an other OS again on the same computer (esp. not since I got vmware workstation)

but then I will not be able to use Ubuntu?
it will not be in a bootloader that Windows creates?

I just love that image :D

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Who needs Flash, anyway :P

You would be able to reinstall the Ubuntu bootloader from a bootable disk.
Or maybe edit the windows loader to also load the linux part.
I have no played with linux in half a dozen years though.
At least not without firing up a dedicated vm

@OliverSalzburg Gotta read the small print :P

@Bob I decided against watching the video :P

Bob
How do you find all this crazy shit anyway?
@OliverSalzburg s/Keyboard/your hands/
that just warns you of what happens
or maybe this is a "damage the keyboard, we break your hands" deal

@Bob You mean the software or the image?

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Both? :P

In general, the crazy shit seems to find me :P

The image was on Reddit, the software was a requirement for a job
It usually goes like this: We talk for an hour about a project we might do and everything looks clear, you know how long it will take to produce what they're asking. Then they mention: "Oh yeah, by the by, it would be great if your product could also interface with SomethingYouVeNeverHeardOf. Is that going to be a problem?" And then it turns out, it's the only real problem about the whole project
Like, this whole project basically boils down to, you have an RFID token, you hold it up to a scanner and your name appears on a teleprompter on a stage so that the presenter knows who is coming on stage
Pretty basic stuff
"Oh yeah, by the way, could the name also be fed into this live video composting software we use?"
O_o

1:57 PM
What does it mean???
When I am trying to install Ubuntu and am choosing which partition it will be installed on, it says: NO ROOT FILE SYSTEM DEFINED. PLEASE CORRECT THIS FROM PARTITIONING MENU.
What should I do?
I am trying to install Ubuntu on a partition that is EXT4 and has 15 GB

Bob
@OliverSalzburg well, if said software were remotely sane... :P

2:18 PM
It probably means that you did not define a mountpoint as root
If you install windows then you select a partition to put the OS on.
E.g. one partition to install on and use as c:
One partition to format and use as D:
Maybe more (e.g. E: F: etc)
When installing Linux or any other unix-ish OS you usually create one partition and mark that to install the OS on (mount point //)
And maybe a few more.e.g. a dedicated partition for /home, and/or for /usr/
So to me this sounds as if you as installing ubuntu and said "use this partition", but not "Use this partition FOR THIS THINGY"

@JourneymanGeek apparently Daiso sells charging cables and earphones... I need to get some :P

@Bob: Yeah they do

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Any good?

I love the short coiled cables
headphone quality varies hugely
there's one specific design with a /--\ rather than rounded shaped earbuds that sounds great
but some sound horrid

Bob

mind providing a photo? :P
@JourneymanGeek I'm mostly looking for longer ones
Don't really expect much for the price, though

Not tried the longer cables yet

Let's see how well that works :D

That seems awesome

3:18 PM
The CLI doesn't work right for me :\

I had created a Backup on my USB pen drive.I don't remember which kind of backup i had created.

Now when i click on the Dell Backup and Recovery There are several backup's available.I don't understand which backup to
do
Manage Rescue Disk
Factory Backup
Applications and Drivers

Why does the dell backup require so many pen drives.Why can't it simply load the complete backup on one single drive.

When i open the My computer it shows some SYS RECOVERY for the USB Pen drive.
Now could you please say what kind of backup is this created.
In the check rescue disk it shows blank due to which i cannot understand whether there is any issue or not

@JourneymanGeek holy mother of omg

@user285oo6 I don't think a rescue disk is a backup
But I'm not familiar with that specific product

3:44 PM
ya it's different but in the software with so many backups/ options and for all with
@OliverSalzburg ya both are different ,but with every one option demanding a seperate exclusive usb device/Cd it will get cumbersome to maintain these many backup's.Even if one single backup is missing then the system will not be back to normal

@user285oo6 With the systems I know, you usually back up to some external storage and you use the recovery disk to boot from when you need to do a full restore
Drawing flowcharts makes me feel so productive
It feels like the biggest part of the work is already done. Now you just have to do what you drew

@OliverSalzburg ya the problem is if use a 250 gb hard disk and create a backup it will only store a single backup option not all, if I try to add another backup to the existing drive

@user285oo6 What's a "backup option" in this context?

it will format the whole disk again and re-place it.In the end i will be wasting around 240 Gb as ideal and it will not be usable untill and unless i format the existing data

@user285oo6 Can't it do incremental backups?

3:54 PM
@OliverSalzburg no it will only store 1 single option
either i use it for backup or use it for data

Q: Why were the comments removed from this question when the comments provided the answer?

Paul CrozierThe comments to this question Excel 2013 32bit and 64bit crashing on form were removed when the asker accepted my answer but the actual answer and quite a few 'Things to try' steps was in the comments on the answer. The answer itself isn't what fixed his issue and now the comments are removed and...

I'm not sure what to do with this review. The answer may qualify as spam. But the question as-is essentially solicits spam.

A: App to show keystrokes and mouse clicks on OS X

adamcohenroseFound another option: Did I Click — just does mouse clicks but is cheaper than both PinPoint and Mouseposé. There's a screenshot with the options at http://i.stack.imgur.com/qb1nE.jpg

@Bob ROFL

@CanadianLuke Is that spam, or something that's actually legitimate?

any one can quickly tell me how can i make winPE usb without softwares when i have its image or cd ?

5:32 PM
@killermist It's not too bad
But it does look like a software rec question as it stands

5:44 PM
@CanadianLuke I remember from old Cyanogenmod installs I had that you can open the notification drawer by a simple top-to-bottom gesture anywhere in the launcher. Couldn't find it on the One. Does this sound familiar to you?

@killermist real
@OliverSalzburg just from the status bar, I think

Oh, well

That's kinda how I prefer it anyways, personally

Yeah, well, I was hoping there was an option available
@CanadianLuke Do you have the gestures available btw? I find myself regularly having the flashlight enabled or switching songs by accident

6:44 PM
@OliverSalzburg So, are we supposed to be killing software recommendations or not? I look at it, and in broad, I'm nauseated. The answer essentially qualifies as spam, but the question kinda begs for spam.

Q: Could we finally get rid of [software-rec]?

gronostajI know that this has been covered before (for example here), but communities evolve constantly and our current view on this matter can be different. In my humble opinion, software-rec should be burninated. It's quite a big job (~1100 questions), but we've already cleaned up tags that were that b...

Please see my answer on the question for my take on the subject

In the review queue, I could "skip" it, but that doesn't sit well. I could hit the "No Action Needed" button. But that doesn't sit well either.
Following the link.

Questions like that can be very difficult to deal with properly
This is no task for the review queue
You have to look at the question and judge if it can be rewritten to be a proper question for our site
If it can't be rewritten, it should be deleted or locked, depending on the value of the question
If it can be rewritten, you have to look if the answers are still proper for the new question
The problem is a very complex one, buried deep in our community. Making the right choice to deal with a question is hard

Should I just flag the question as off-topic and let the new answer burn with the question? This one little thing in a review queue has caused such a bit of stomach difficulty.
Is there a flag reason for answers that says, "The question is either off-topic, irrelevant, or otherwise junk. Therefore this answer is more problem than solution, in any form."

@killermist In these cases I would recommend telling the user (via comment) to expand the answer and explain how to use the software they suggested to achieve what the user wants. This is always the right way to go. Optionally, you can then edit the question to move the focus to how to achieve the goal, instead of what tool could achieve the goal

7:06 PM
@OliverSalzburg A pivot or novation in stead of just burning the question? This is a tactic I hadn't considered. Kudos for having pointed it out as a useful tactic for questions like this. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novation) (oddly enough the word novation doesn't pass muster with my spelling checker)

@killermist I'm learning new things from your reply myself right now :D

@OliverSalzburg Blame your learning on my exposure to a Business Law class. So many words that are so infrequently used, and would seem meaningless unless the context were understood.

Q: App to show keystrokes and mouse clicks on OS X

Elijah LynnWhat are some good third party apps for Mac that just do keystroke display and mouse click display? Since GoTo Webinar does not support recording on the Mac I am going to be using iShowU HD Pro to record webinars. A nice feature is that it shows keystrokes and mouse clicks and sounds on the ...

I think I've rephrased the question from software recommendation to on-topic. (probably still in some queue)
And, I think I've rephrased the answer that was making me gack into something I can stomach.
On a side-related note, WOOHOO! I passed a (another) (fairly regular) "are you paying attention?" review audit.

8:12 PM
i am trying to install windows 7 from ISO that was put on USB pen but I get this error:
anybody has a clue how to fix it?

8:46 PM
@OliverSalzburg I have them enabled, but they don't seem to work... am I doing it wrong?

@CanadianLuke They only work when the phone is locked. And then it takes some practice. The torch is the easiest

Real or CGI?

@Boris_yo This is CGI.

@DragonLord How you know?

If I'm not mistaken, this is a Blender render
I've seen it on Wikipedia

8:54 PM
@DragonLord ... And if you didn't? Would you know?

Probably not
Very realistic rendering, for what it's worth
It's actually generated by POV-Ray
Ray-tracing, interesting...
POV-Ray used to be a semi-open-source program (source code available, with restrictions), but they're moving towards a fully open model
!!/wiki POV-Ray

The Persistence of Vision Raytracer, or POV-Ray, is a ray tracing program which generates images from a text-based scene description, and is available for a variety of computer platforms. It was originally based on DKBTrace, written by David Kirk Buck and Aaron A. Collins for the Amiga computers. There are also influences from the earlier Polyray raytracer contributed by its author Alexander Enzmann. POV-Ray is free and open-source software with the source code available under the AGPLv3. Many methods for generating the 3-D models are used, including a companion program "moray" for interactive...

The reason for the odd source licensing model is historical
POV-Ray predated the GPL

@DragonLord Why I see low-quality details renderings and high-quality renderings? What are they depend on for better results?
Some renderings for products make them look like toys and others look very realistic like this one.

@Boris_yo The image just yells "Hey we can do refraction!!!"

9:08 PM
PNG format is not allowed on superuser questions, so which format should i use to upload pictures?
BMP? JPEG?

@JANORTS PNG is allowed just fine, just use the image uploader (Ctrl+G)

@JANORTS You don't have enough reputation to post images.

Can I post URL and would somebody please upload the image for me?

Yes, we can do that.

OK

9:10 PM
@OliverSalzburg not working for me

As a reminder to anyone who has insufficient reputation to post an image: Post a link to the image and we'll edit it in for you.

@CanadianLuke I had to try like 20 times until I got the camera gesture down. The V for torch worked right away. But it doesn't seem very reliable
The phone has to be actually locked, not on the lock screen. Like, black display

Q: How do I solve the issue with CD/DVD drive device driver missing when installing Windows 7 from USB memory stick?

JAN ORTSI downloaded the official 30-day trial ISO of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit from here but after using different USB memory sticks, I always get to a problem of required CD/DVD drive device driver missing. This is the screenshot of the problem: bbsimg.ngfiles.com/7/22785000/ngbbs4dcc4c7b884d5.jpg...

@JANORTS Posted.

thank you!

9:14 PM
@OliverSalzburg Where do you see refraction?

@Boris_yo In the glass and the water. They have different refractive indexes, which is why they are usually picked to showcase something like this

@OliverSalzburg How does it help to pick refractive elements? I don't see anything overboard on this rendering.

@Boris_yo When you write a raytracer, you don't get refraction for free, you have to implement that additionally. So when you do implement it, you make sure to render something that showcases your ability, like something with lots of glass and water

@OliverSalzburg nice! It works now!

Like when you implement subsurface scattering and you render organic materials
@CanadianLuke Sweet :D

9:18 PM
@OliverSalzburg Got it!
You have limited time to make everything okay.

http://make-everything-ok.com/

I feel excessively OK right now

@OliverSalzburg I read that for prisms, optics and lasers, high refraction is good. Why?
@OliverSalzburg Cool, now go deposit exceess to the bank and return when needed to replenish.

@Boris_yo That seems to cover a lot of subjects. In certain cases, like with a prism, you might want to have the laser you shine into it refracted as much as possible to have it split up into the separate wave lengths
But I'm hardly an expert on that subject

@OliverSalzburg And for my glasses I do not want anything to spread?

@Boris_yo Right, you don't. It would skew your perception of reality, so to speak

9:29 PM
@OliverSalzburg Skew my eyes...

I would assume that the lenses in glasses are specifically crafted to have as low of a refractive index as possible

@OliverSalzburg But you know how to naturally acquire refractive property to your eyes?

But, actually, I'm not sure right now if a high or a low refractive index means more or less distortion :P

You want refraction?
Here

9:43 PM
That works

9:54 PM
Just had to deal with a dispute with another user whose answer was deleted
It's been resolved
Answer edited and restored, comments purged

@Psycogeek sorry for late response i've been out for hours today without much good internet access, and many days this week. Thanks for your response.. You write "So that would mean setting the "local address" also ? not just the remote address. In the question it seemed like you did not care what type the "profile" was public private domain ? Then there is the "interface" wireless or local." <-- I want the remote address to be LAN only.

I'm not going to discuss further details here as the issue was private, but suffice it to say the affected user is happy with the resolution

@Psycogeek Just the remote address? If I recall, the difference between local address and remote address, is remote address is the other computer you are communicating with.. But Local Address is interface to bind to. I suppose in a sense in theory I could perhaps do it by restricting the local address to the LAN address that might be equivalent of restricting the remote address to LAN.. But the same problem exists. The default is local address is set to Any and remote address is set to Any
I can't change that default for local address just like I can't change it for remote address.
You write " In the question it seemed like you did not care what type the "profile" was public private domain ? " <--- Yeah As I say in my question (and i'll elaborate)
I say "My network is generally set to Home or Work, i'm not commenting here on Public.
I understand that with Home or Work, the Private firewall profile is used." And indeed. The Public option in the windows firewall, isn't relevant to me. My network isn't set to Public. It's set to Work or Home.
Public is a profile for when connected in an internet cafe.. I wonder if the default is different for public though I doubt it. My guess is if you create a rule when you have the public profile set, then the default is local-any remote-any. And that if a program requests a port opening and you say yes, then it's local-any remote-any
This means, that if you want to secure a machine more eg if you don't want local-any remote-any, then you have to first have that less secure setting!

10:17 PM
I do not really know how to set it proper to begin with. But i always saw "public" as anything that gan go outside your area of control "the net" not that it was a computer made public (library computer). That Domain and private profile items were intending to Stay within your locally connected and controlled computers ?
That is what i gathered from seeing how Microsoft "secures" the system via all thier own firewall settings.

@Psycogeek I don't think that's correct
we are talking here about the names of profiles within the Windows 7 Firewall
And the terms that windows 7 uses for the network itself (home,work,public)
and in that context, when they say public, they mean internet cafe.
which is the exact opposite of it meaning public as in any IPs can access.
It is horribly confusing to somebody not aware of that, but that's how microsoft have done it

I was referring to "profiles" . Domain Private Public.

now I don't know what you mean at all
what about profiles
Are you saying public means any IP can access?
what i'm trying to tell you, is that that's wrong
What I was writing about there was also profiles..
I wrote
"we are talking here about the names of profiles within the Windows 7 Firewall"
i'm talking about the same thing you are

But lets say that, They (microsoft) has in the firewall rules designations items, a "intra-net" , "Inter-Net (the web)" what item in the rules defines that?

.
Scope defines that
so clicking a rule then properties then the scope tag.

10:26 PM
Scope defines that based on actual Address items.

Then where it says Remote IP address, whether enter just your LAN (that'd be intranet in your terminology).
Yes. Intranet(your terminology), can be defined by Address Scope
Windows XP firewall had a simple option of Scope.. and it included the possibility to enter an IP or IP range.
internet would be 0.0.0.0 intranet could be 192.168.0.0/16 or 192.168.x.0/24

But LAN (lan party , local lan) has often come to suggest your internally interconnected stuff. Router, Modem and wireless :-) have always suggested the outside .

Nothing suggests otherwise
I'm just saying that Microsoft has a funny definition of public..
They mean you're out in the public... rather than allowing all public IPs in.

I am in no position to discuss it anyways. because i just usually turn it all off and lock it all across the board :-) so i do not know how it is supposed to work (just so you know).

so you turn off the windows 7 firewall?

10:32 PM
@barlop I turn it so everything is blocked, then allow selectivly as I "the User" define the need to connect.

@Psycogeek do you block all outgoing too?

@barlop certannly, because without outgoing , a virus cannot send out my information.

@Psycogeek well, do you allow outgoing on port 80? or just allow it based on program.. allowing chrome to access anything?

(untill they sneak through claiming to be one of the other things)

or do you make a program exception and limit the scope
you may find that a program exception if you look at the scope, the program has huge power

10:35 PM
@barlop That all gets complicated. I TRY and restrict "protocol" "address", and "port" when it is possible, when the item should only be connecting in that way, and when doing so allows what I want, and disallows everything else.

so have you edited the chrome rule?
I guess i just trust chrome.. it's so much hassle doing it for so many programs..
uTorrent for example.. i haven't restricted the ports for the uTorrent rule
VNC i've either restricted the program rule.. or removed the program rule and done my own rule that just works based on port number.

For my system, there are so many limitations to begin with, there is no sharing items turned on, there is no remote access capable. for ages I have used other way more localised methods and obscure stuff to make connections of that type. (again) everything beyond my computer, on the other side of the wire is "public" in my opinion and arrangement, because i cannot be sure i can control it. (as you can see i dont know enough to control it)

Just took apart an old 2.5-inch hard drive that has bad sectors, preparing to destroy it
It's already been secure erased

Years ago, people never had any (real big) problems doing things like "port forwarding" and other methods to get stuff to connect Direct, For ONE program at a time. People would take a hour :-) out of the day, to get one program to foce it's way through the net selectivly.
I do not really have a problem, setting up each program item with its allowable acccess. Today! though, everything is the web , so they expect everything to just always connect blind.
It amazes me to no end, to see a bank computer :-) connecting through the same wire i get porn from , to access peoples bank accounts. To realise that any computer in a nuclear facility is connected to the same wire i get viruses from.... but that is just me.

11:10 PM
@DragonLord: Oooh, MAGNETS!

@barlop Yea intra-net for microsoft was determined (for everyone) by the use of a specific set of addresses. problem here is i did not want anyone to know the addresses that i used for internal computers :-P (as if it matters) . that way as they NAT thier way through my network system, they would be lost (again) because it is abnormal , psyco even :-) They will get through, but not without going through more maze.

11:24 PM
Domain
Applied to a network adapter when it is connected to a network on which it can detect a domain controller of the domain to which the computer is joined.
Private
Applied to a network adapter when it is connected to a network that is identified by the administrator as a private network. A private network is one that is not connected directly to the Internet, but is behind some kind of security device, such as a network address translation (NAT) router or hardware firewall.
Public
Applied to a network adapter when it is connected to a public network such as those available in airports a
--So by those definitions, it is all about "how far away" , "how many devices" reside between that connection and the outside. <--thus is how i end up reading it.
If i connect my computer up direct to the modem, it would be Public? Or is there some assumption that only when there are many other users connecting through that same device, and thier connection can be directally connected to my connection?

@JourneymanGeek No, I'm drilling holes through it

Ahh the whole thing is rather laughable, when it has occured that viruses have been transmitted to a whole network of computers through thier own internal network behond the "security" designed to protect :-) and when Routers are being attacked as the exploitable entry item, not the magic protector

Got a picture of the drive—will post as soon as possible
(Took me ages to get it right—I'm using a DSLR and macro lens with shoe-mounted flash)
I really wish I had a Pentax 645Z to work with :/
This is one of those shots that really demand medium format

The "profile" (domain, Private, Public) items do not determine the "level of security" just the communications desired between them to set-up and communicate , and connect. (mostly laid out by microsoft). Therefore the "scope" (outgoing and incomming addresses) is the real restriction.

@Psycogeek of course the scope is the real restriction.
that's the proper technical term..
this is semantics
but terminology matters..
you write "-So by those definitions, it is all about "how far away" , "how many devices" reside between that connection and the outside. <--thus is how i end up reading it.

<--- It's not to do with whether it's directly connected
Public means I am in an internet cafe.
So therefore apply the public firewall profile.. which is the firewall profile for when in an internet cafe.
Which is the more restrictive rules
How restrictive is another matter..
I don't recall off hand the difference between the profiles. But the idea is public is more restrictive because public means internet cafe
Absolutely nothing to do with distance.
