@allquixotic: Try posting a dummy comment onto the most recent post at blog.fierydragonlord.com. I'm testing the caching plugin on my blog to see if it works as intended. Once done, the post and its comments will be deleted.

OMG... it would have normally expired in 2015 with the annual renewal
I LOVE YOU!!! Thanks Bob! :D
@DragonLord done
@Bob :D :D well that saved me a little money :) I laugh every time I visit Lastpass's HTTPS site because it says it is verified by "Marvasol, Inc" -- Marvasol sounds like a type of floor wax or cleanser or something
"Joey made a mess! He spilled pizza sauce all over the floor!!"
"Don't worry, a little Marvasol should get it up."

Weird--it didn't register even after I approved the comment.
@allquixotic I can see it when logged in on Firefox, but it doesn't show up in Internet Explorer where I am not logged into the blog.

I left a comment on a post. I tried to leave a comment on another post and it flagged me as a spammer.

@ThatBrazilianGuy I rejected your comment because it was redundant.
@allquixotic posted a comment, and I approved that one instead.

@DragonLord I see the comment on the post, but not on the homepage under the comment # summary

6:12 PM
It sounded that an automated antispam didn't even send it to the approval queue

nvm now it shows up on the homepage too

@ThatBrazilianGuy Well, I did see it on the moderation queue.

I see no comments on the home page at all

It says Comments (1) beneath the entry I commented on

@allquixotic Is it the "test" one?

no the one prior
> I am a dumb dumb dumbdumb testing a cache or something.

@ThatBrazilianGuy That test post has been deleted.

it's still there on my page :D even after F5ing

I see the test post. Even after CTRL+F5.
lagado.com/tools/cache-test says I'm not cached.

Just use disqus and move on with life :P

6:16 PM
oh, you have to use CTRL -- is that the key for "I SAID COMPLETELY REFRESH, GODDAMNIT!" ?

I have used CTRL.
I think @DragonLord's server is drunk.

@allquixotic I think @DragonLord's server is serving different results to different people. (source)

@ThatBrazilianGuy Yeah, the cache is not working as intended.

Racist server, treating brazilians differently.

6:20 PM
I've removed the caching plugin.

@ThatBrazilianGuy what if someone born in Brazil isn't of an ethnicity that makes them "Brazilian"? is it countryist then?
regionist? localeist? idk

I thought the system published email addresses from commenters but it turns out I don't seem them when not logged in.

@allquixotic By law, anyone born in Brazil is entitled to Brazilian nationality.

but not ethnicity ;p

There's not a single Brazilian ethnicity. By definition, Brazil is a huge mix of ethnicities.

6:27 PM
then how can someone be racist against Brazilians?

The test comments have been deleted.

@allquixotic How do I know? I bet some stupid Brazilian illiterate can't be half-arsed to look up for the correct word.
;p

> Stack Exchange is currently offline, we'll be back shortly!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

@Mokubai It can't even display the "down for maintenance" message. Something is seriously wrong...

Quick, someone break out the brown paper bags!

<html>
<head>
    <title>We are Offline</title>
    <style type="text/css">
        body { margin: 0; padding: 0; }
        iframe { border: 0; }
    </style>
</head>
<body>
    <iframe width="100%" height="100%" id="pageFrame"></iframe>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        setTimeout(function () { location.reload(true); }, 300000);
        var hostName = window.location.hostname;
        var directory = '';
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://sstatic.net/error-director.js"></script>
Above is the source code for the iframe which displays the offline page.

D:
At least chat is still working

Look at the code in the else block commented // if we get here, that means even the offline pages on sstatic are offline.

7:31 PM
@DarthAndroid DevOps FTW! Microsoft stack FTW! Super over-engineered HAproxy custom C# FTW! Oh, oops... our uptime rivals the Federal Government. Guess we're not as awesome as we thought.
gotta love that SE is basically a beta test bed for SQL Server and Windows Server patches that are FUBAR... tons of random shit breaking

Now nothing is loading at all. Even the sstatic server is down.
...and it's working again.

@DragonLord and yet, their chat server is so reliable and unbreakable that you can't bring down chat even if you spill coffee on the servers :P

The chat servers are entirely independent of the main SE servers.

chat is run out of Oregon, IIRC

When Super User is offline, it's supposed to look like this: sstatic.net/superuser/app_offline.htm
From the above JS code, the text Stack Exchange is currently offline, we'll be back shortly! should only appear if that page is not reachable.

7:37 PM
@DragonLord the sad part is that I'm very familiar with that comic... any operations team worth its salt should have the site go down so rarely that it is a surprise to see a downtime like that and only a handful of people are aware of the comic/easteregg
either they set up hosting in a $5 server "motel" with rats crawling on the floor and broken HVAC, or that's some damn shoddy infrastructure for a mission-critical system
imagine if Amazon had as much downtime as SE? how many millions in revenue they'd lose?

Guess what: I was the one who created the image shown at the bottom of the Server Fault offline page
Image not found? srsly?

WikiOtters are elusive creatures whose chief characteristic is a willingness to help other users out by editing or simply being friendly. Although the WikiOtter is a benevolent type of WikiFauna, it is a member of the weasel family and will readily challenge much more "important" editors. For example, they are fierce fighters against anyone who picks on a newcomer. WikiOtters also have a tendency to lighten the encyclopedia with harmless play, humor, and a total respect for WP:Ignore all rules. == Conservation == The WikiOtter has been most recently evaluated using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines as...

The WikiGryphon, or WikiGriff, is a mythical WikiBeast with the head, talons, and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. Known as the "guardian of treasures; protector from evil, witchcraft and secret slander", WikiGryphons are beasts with a dual mission: their protective instincts guide them to soar first in one direction to collect and safeguard their treasures, then in another, to take other WikiFauna under their wing. As with WikiDragons, WikiGryphons can be powerful when collecting treasures and placing them appropriately, and tenacious when annoying vermin encroach upon their aeries. In...

@DragonLord ironic that you don't self-identify as a WikiDragon :P

we need something like this on SE :P
Wikipedia articles are improved through the hard work of regular editors, but also through numerous contributions made by newcomers. Remember: all of us were new editors at Wikipedia once, and in some ways (such as when editing an article on a topic outside our usual scope) even the most experienced among us are still newcomers. New members are prospective contributors and are therefore Wikipedia's most valuable resource. We must treat newcomers with kindness and patience—nothing scares potentially valuable contributors away faster than hostility. It is very unlikely for a newcomer to be completely...

@allquixotic I've long advocated for this.

@DragonLord on SE, you mean?
funny thing is there isn't really much in the way of codified policy on SE, unlike Wikipedia
there's the help pages and a few metas but it's hard to know what's what without simply being around and learning from experience
it seems to me that newcomers and people with alternate points of view get a lot more leeway on wikipedia (and a lot more energy is invested in trying to work with them, for better or worse)

@MichaelFrank Blah. Sports. Meh.
I need to sleeeeeeeep

@ThatBrazilianGuy !

I feel tired. And I don't particularly like coffee, nor I'm particularly used to it
And I can't drink caffeine, I have stomach burns sometimes
my employers' philosophy of "let's run a random string generator and put that as new requirements" mandate I have to take lessons on teaching lessons and pedagogics stuff, and the lessons are about e-learning, using e-learning
So every night I come home and have to read multiple pages filled with pedagogic academic buzzwords
I feel like I am reading the teacheresque version of this:
...and then they make me write an essay a week about what I just read.
It is mind numbing. The text is so boring and thick.
@MichaelFrank Oh, your "!" is regarding my disliking of sports, not my need of sleep.
What is so exclamatory about me not liking sports?

11:00 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy yep. :P
'cause football is amazing.

Does it make me looks less genuinely Brazilian?
What if I told you I particularly dislike soccer?

@ThatBrazilianGuy eh, it's not really too suprising.
