12:20 AM
Ugh. Swapping. slow

@Hennes: MOAR RAM!
hmm
almost hit 2k on MSO :)

18 GB was not enough. I had to reboot to regain control

o0
what were you running?

Two of them 8GB Vms, running compile jobs and a tar-netcat copy
and a firefox (say 1GB)

ahh I guess that would do it

12:34 AM
mail client, spreadsheet, vlc movie, some puttys, some music, ...
One was the old compile job but ran out of diskspace
So haeavy mem usage and maxed out disks plus swap ....

1:02 AM
@Ariane: Uh, line 14 shouldn't have else and line 24 should concatenate.
But it doesn't really make sense the way it is put, you'll want to group checking by $RechPrenom, $RechNom; not by whether they are empty, right format.
And yes, the formats are done through lazy evaluation and therefore it won't check all of them. In pseudo code it would look like this:
bool errorOccured = false;

if (empty(...))
   error about ..., errorOccured = true
else if (wrongFormat(...))
   error about ..., errorOccured = true

Repeat the above.

if (!errorOccurred)
   take action using the data, displayResults
That way each thing gets its own errors, and no lazy evaluation is involved.
With arrays, functions and objects you can then get rid of the repetitive code if you like...

Qix
@TomWijsman Did you see my message to you earlier?

@Qix Yes. Thanks.

Qix
Kk
Surely, I enjoyed it.

1:26 AM
Is there a 10k user around?

Not really. 10K + ?

Yeah...
I don't remember, but can 10k users see deleted questions off someone's profile?

Not sure. Deleted answers: yes.

which profile should I look at ?

1:31 AM
Can you tell if he has any questions?

Just one
Performed Unlock/Jailbreak iPhone 5/4S/4/3GS iOS

exactly.
spam.
He was spamming MSO earlier.

I see no earlier question. Just a new member (since today), no badges, no rep
And that post

OK well thanks :)

Qix
Flagged anyway.

1:34 AM
Ditto.

Can you flag users?

Will edit to remove the links. No need to let them profit from it

Hmm OK. From my understanding he should get suspended for advertising right?

not sure.

Qix
Probably.

1:38 AM
Not much lost from a newly created account though

OK that's what I thought. Thanks :)
Oh, it is a new account...

I usually tend to be friendly and them they why it is not a good idea. In most cases that will be wasted effort. Sometimes it is a user who thinks (s)he was helpful and we do not scare hir away

true enough.
Though this really isn't anything other than spam.

1:52 AM
what I ended up doing today...
@Seth: I can see a deleted question if its linked to me
otherwise no
looks like the mods are on it

Sound good, but I like less capitalised SALT. :)

@Hennes: no need to edit, in fact I think its discouraged
@Hennes: didn't bother changing it. Had my hands full typing in a language I don't understand ;p

;-)

remember the review audit user I was bitching about being too obvious?
turns out his name is a bad pun ;p

What was the name?

Q: Linksys router not working via ethernet cable but works fine via wifi

MartinI happened after a lightning struck near my block. Ideas? or just I have to buy a new one?

No, do not buy a anew one. You are now safe because lightning only strikes once!
so Marcus in chains ?

2:03 AM
lol

oh! Duh!
Same idea

Its horrible. I'm embarassed I didn't notice that earlier ;p

@JourneymanGeek OK that's what I thought, though @Hennes seemed to be able to see it...

Not earlier.
JourneymanGeek mentioned a pun so I looked at the name
Once you know there is a pun it is much easier to spot

Oops. Forgot to capitalize my 't' :O

2:18 AM
I wonder which language that is. Looks like english words, but no sentences

IKR

I guess it is an IBM X30 laptop.
hmm, if I approve I can no longer edit myself. Right?

@Hennes You can't edit it anyway until my edit is passed or rejected, unless you choose "edit" from the queue.

Editing the main post atm. Adding that it is a laptop at the start (so no more guessing until you reach the end).
Asked 20 oct 2009 though
Which I should have noticed before

Oh my...

3 hours later…
5:18 AM
fixed up the answer as much as possible
whoot
hit 1k on AU

Didn't you run for mod over there recently?

5:35 AM
yup ;p

wasn't expecting to win, It was entirely to see how I'd do, and to get used to the election process. Turning up for the town hall a day early, then oversleeping through the actual town hall meeting is something I'd hope to avoid for example ;p

lol

/me is waiting to hit his other objective, which should happen this week ;p

5:55 AM
Stack Overflow elections start tomorrow

6:06 AM
lol
anyone we know standing? (not that I can vote there)

@JourneymanGeek maybe me ;p
I need to get a reversal badge for this ;\

isn't reversal for massive upvotes for a downvoted question, rather than salvaging a terrible answer? ;p

6:42 AM
irony perhaps ;p

@JourneymanGeek it is :/

6:57 AM
@Sathya I think you need the badge for this ;)

hahha

@JourneymanGeek ff appears like ie o0

@HackToHell: like really, my mom handed me a turkish recipie from a bag of chickpeas, and went "go work out what this is"

Q: Overwrote my presentation with a new blank file, now can't recover it

saber tabatabaee yazdiI had a PowerPoint file with 140 slides that accidentally overwrote with a new blank file of the same name. I always save my files on SharePoint but this time I forgot it. I tested applications like Active Recovery and others in quick scan, but they can only restore deleted files, not the last ...

Should we protect this right away? Spam magnet, just sayin…

7:14 AM
@slhck: I'd wait for at least one spammer ;p

@JourneymanGeek Bets are on. I say in three days we'll definitely have one :P

Ahahahah…

A: Kindly, create alternative of grave accent based formatting?

Shog9Well, you can always drop back to plain ol' HTML... Instead of `code`, use <code>code</code> for code.

Thanks, but it's not the code. Wouldn't it smash the semantics? — Sachin Shekhar 10 hours ago
If it's not "the code", lemme guess, it's for making important keywords highlighted?

SMASH THE SEMANTICS!

Kindly do the needful to smash the semantics.

7:20 AM
@slhck If you're trying to type code on a phone, I'd say you're going to have bigger problems...

@Bob Oh, I've often typed code on a phone. Frustrating when, e.g. `code` is autocorrected to `code (removing the trailing backtick)
Says the one who even suspends users from a phone.

Bob
@slhck well, that's never happened to me :P

@Bob iOS peculiarity I guess.

Bob
I just got tired of rewriting words multiple times because of typo's
Swype on Android. No problems with the backticks, but the automatic space gets annoying
it's actually easier on Swype for Symbian :\

Symbian… wait… wasn't that?

7:23 AM
naw, thats pre-symbian

symbian is nice :P

Aah, okay, so that was something different then.
Sweet Jesus
The following is a list of products branded by Nokia Corporation. This list concentrates on the modern Nokia products. Most Nokia phones will show their model number if the user types *#0000# on its keypad in standby mode and unlocked state, as well as its IMEI number if *#06# is entered. The latter works on most phones available (not only for Nokias). Mobile phones Phones in boldface indicates that the phone is a Symbian, Maemo/MeeGo or Windows Phone-powered smartphone. How many phones can one make?

Bob
@slhck It's Nokia :P
Enough to protect a small country from nuclear war?
anyway, to be specific, I was using a N8:

Ah, okay

Bob
great for general English sentences. not so great for code :P
also, felt more accurate than the Android version (with accuracy at max) for some reason :\
though I assume they use the same core algo.. it's possible an update broke it, or Nokia enhanced their own version

7:41 AM
wut.
@Sathya solved. because in Quick scan run that. i rerun that and recover my file. — saber tabatabaee yazdi 40 mins ago
I call bs.
also, I'm editing every frigging post of his
I know English is not his first language, but neither is it mine but at least learn from the edits I'm doing

8:26 AM
Yeah, I'd consider other means of letting him know that this is not acceptable if he still hasn't learned from that
Also, Katherine from Delhi needs an Exchange Backup Recovery tool ASAP. I wonder if there are spammer colleagues who can help her.

@slhck LOL
@slhck unbelievable.

Too bad her sister Marry signed up too late to provide an answer.

9:28 AM
lol
YES!
Hit 2k on MSO :)

> I've done about 2 hours of actual work so far this week. The other 30 or so I've spent building my rep on stackoverflow
Heh. Sad but true.

@slhck definitely doesn't sound like me whistles nonchalantly

lol
actual work?

But seriously:
Column Address Strobe (CAS) latency, or CL, is the delay time between the moment a memory controller tells the memory module to access a particular memory column on a RAM memory module, and the moment the data from the given array location is available on the module's output pins. In general, the lower the CAS latency, the better. In asynchronous DRAM, the interval is specified in nanoseconds. In synchronous DRAM, the interval is specified in clock cycles. Because the latency is dependent upon a number of clock ticks instead of an arbitrary time, the actual time for an SDRAM module to r...

now now mods no trolling :P

there's a very good answer on Super User on the RAM numbers

Anthropeto make the logic versatile for any folder you can try this http://www.madesko.com/ToolDownload.php?alfa=1

@JourneymanGeek Posted the same crap twice already.
Sign in to download. Yeah, nothx.

they could at LEAST make the effort to have grammatically correct spam

Aw. Eight review audit for me.

@slhck it's giving you a subtle hint :P

… which would be? :P

10:51 AM
Markov Chains!

11:06 AM
@slhck :P

Bob
@JourneymanGeek For some reason, I feel like getting a markov chain generator to use in replies (comments/edit rejection messages) to those posts a la random

Bob
probably wouldn't work too well

certainly not on SO ;p

Bob
would need some source text that works for rejection messages.. maybe just scramble the grammar a bit and add random out-of-context words
but then I'd probably get suspended
which is not fun at all :P

11:10 AM
no ;p

and some pictures from /r/wtf too :P

Bob
no. just no.
I'm definitely getting one, if the prices are as promised :P

for ... ?

Bob
@HackToHell Who doesn't want a $20 phone that lasts a month? :P
probably for a backup
all my current backup phones found new homes :S

20 bucks off contract, hell yes ;p
though I have a nokia 1210 which cost about the same ;p

Bob
11:17 AM
also, FM radio
for when you have nothing else to do :P
@JourneymanGeek no 3.5mm jack? :(

11:38 AM
er its all it has
black and white screen tho

Bob
@JourneymanGeek just realised I was looking at a different phone

If you have a YouTrack account, please vote on this issue. Thanks. :P
Awesome \o/

11:58 AM
hmm, actually if they also had per tab volume control, I'd joygasm

It doesn't apply to plugins anyway
But it's a step in the right direction
I would expect something like per-tab volume control sooner or later as I would imagine they want that in Chrome OS

12:18 PM
.
Got to love UK postage, they actually do their job unlike canada/us post, or even the specialty posts like UPS here, UPS 3-5 days to get here from just across US border, US/CA post, 2-3 weeks to get here from just across US border, UK royal post, from across the sea, 4 days, it's at the last stop before my place and it cost 1/3 what US/CA post would cost
Now let's just hope the PSU does the job @Hennes

sigh

wut.
Also, I don't see composing music needing anywhere near that much RAM :S
CD audio (uncompressed) would have to be 12 hours long to use 8 GB...
if you're composing 'music' that long, in one go, and need to store it all in RAM without some kind of scratch file, I'd say you're probably doing it wrong...
@OliverSalzburg ...5.1.4. That code haunts me.

@Bob It just annoys me that abuse@ is not connected :P

Bob
well, is it a listed address?

@slhck Exactly wrong. It is to the power of 2. 8GB needs dual core and 16GB needs octo-core
@Bob Well normally you would have multiple concurrent tracks, perhaps with effects overlayed real time. It can get busy I reckon.

Bob
@Paul ah, forgot about that -_-

1:16 PM
@Bob abuse is supposed to always exist

Bob
@OliverSalzburg some EU directive?

Just like postmaster and hostmaster

Bob
I can tell you none of that exists on my domain :P

@Bob I don't know of any law. Except the law of the admins :P

Bob
whoops

1:19 PM
@Bob it is, quite.

Bob
so there's a couple of RFCs

Yeah
There's even one for webmaster ;P
That seems to have a pretty nice overview

Bob
well
looks like I have more forwards to set up

The abuse@... address was listed in the WHOIS record btw

Bob
@OliverSalzburg maybe a default thing

1:21 PM
nic-hdl:     ATI
person:      Network Security Team
e-mail:      abuse@TELMEXLA.NET.CO
Well, it is very common to have that address
At least from my experience

Bob
well, I just tried sending ot postmaster@mydomain
it disappeared. that can't be good.

I really think this guy is going to get himself suspended/answerbanned if he dosen't cool down

@Bob Do you handle all services on your domain yourself?

Bob
@OliverSalzburg using the registrar's email forwarding service

1:25 PM
You might also want to check dig SOA yourdomain.tld and check which email address you have listed as the person responsible for the domain
I don't know how common it is to have a working address there, but it works on all our domains ;D
...hopefully

Bob
@OliverSalzburg there's no email address
just my registrar's domain :P
well, a whois returns a valid (if aggressively spam-filtered) address

@Sathya RANDOM words being CAPITALISED does not MAKE for easy READING

Ahh, Word Salad

Bob
though suggesting a possible solution shouldn't be a problem...
I swear half my accepted answers that aren't explaining concepts start with something like "it's possible that"

1:41 PM
@Bob: 'use another os' isn't really a very good solution unless its part of the trouble shooting solution

Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea, not saying that's a good solution
but using "...could be the solution" shouldn't really be a problem
it's not like this is a forum where we can troubleshoot every little thing in the comments and have one person provide a single perfect answer

well, actually ....
I very often use comments like that

Bob
:P

@JourneymanGeek but you don't always confirm what you think is the answer, before posting it as an answer
@Sathya nononononononono
my eyes are bleeding now. thanks.

@Bob: Not really
I do refine answers tho
and often comment on missing information, even when I can't answer a question

Bob
@JourneymanGeek of course, but very often we post answers that are more of a 'best guess'

Bob
personally, I like to make it clear that my guesses are not necessarily the correct answer

Bob
1:46 PM
so I tend to use words/phrases like probably, could be, etc..

oh thats cute. Someone edited both questions which I used as an example of where only compulsary tags are really needed on a meta site with valid additional tags

@JourneymanGeek Seems like that would replace the problem of "missing tags" with the problem of "incorrect tags"

@OliverSalzburg: I just think we should have as few things as possible handled by 'rules'. Nothing stops someone from adding another tag as needed
there's that too ;p

It's generally "old users" who think "We need to force all these newbs to ask more betterer questions!!!"
