12:29 AM
anyone know a good in browser chat client that meets the following restrictions: no capital letters in file names, minimal chat features, and preferably a small number of files?

>_>
IRC/qwebirc? ;p
not sure about the capital letters tho

12:54 AM
@JourneymanGeek, good call

1:13 AM
oh, alternately iris, which is a slightly different version of the same

@JourneymanGeek, my problem is that the admin whose server this is is using the most useless administration software, and there is nothing that he willing to do to make things easier.

things I can't do are upload files with uppercase letters
upload more than 1 file every 20 seconds

hes nuts
and wants a chat server up (this is for my university)

Bob
1:21 AM
@soandos wha-

@Bob, It gets worse

Bob
@soandos Can you upload a (g)zipped/tarball file to be extracted on the server?

everything has to be done through this adminstration software
@Bob, I wish
I can only run things that this administration panel knows how to run
and that is a very small list

Bob
@soandos PHP script to extract? :P

@Bob, good idea
this whole thing is driving me nuts

Bob
1:23 AM
Cause unless you can find something very minimalistic, chances are it'll take a while to upload

yeah, and he won't budge on the upload limit
apparently, the fact that there are only 4 people that can upload anything at all is apparently not enough

sigh how do these people become admins?

@JourneymanGeek, I'll take anything that I can make work, and the simpler the better (for now)
I don't think that i can use .cgi though :(

Bob
1:28 AM
So PHP only?
Or is it even more limited?

@Bob, assume that. I can probably use all of PHP (minus some system calls probably)

Bob
@soandos That's a big assumption to make, considering...

@Bob, I know I can use at least some of PHP
Never had a problem with that

1:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek, databases are a no go (no idea why)

Bob
2 in one folder

Bob
No uppercase filenames

once again, not tested.

Bob
No database

1:36 AM
@soandos: sigh This is looking like a pony problem ;p

Bob
And I'll go test it now

@Bob, looks perfect
Ill test it tommorow
This guy is driving me nuts though

Bob
Looks like it works :P

@Bob, thank you

Bob
@soandos No prob (I now have a chat system set up too! :P)

1:41 AM
lol

@Bob, this just proves that it is possible to work around issues that should never have to have existed in the first place
but really, thanks

Q: What do different patterns mean in Windows 8 file copy dialog

MainMaWhen copying or extracting files, Windows 8 shows the chart with the speed of the operation. I noticed several patterns: Randomness, High speed at the beginning, then low speed during the most part of the operation, Mostly constant speed. 1. Randomness/nice mountains. 2. Q: What do you think about Social Network?

SerenaWangQiaoWhich social network site do you use? Twitter or facebook? Why do you use them? What do you think about those social network sites?

:/

4:53 AM
what does Ubuntu have to do with social networks???!!! I have the same question.

@Sathya Thanks! It is a 3 month temp-to-hire job for a big internet company. If I don't screw up, I get to keep the job. :)

@iglvzx pretty sure you'll do great. What's the role?

@Sathya Meh. It was a good movie, but full of embellishments.
@Sathya Doing what I do here, but for money. Tech Support / Help Desk.

@iglvzx ???

The Social Network is a 2010 American drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin. Adapted from Ben Mezrich's 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires, the film portrays the founding of social networking website Facebook and the resulting lawsuits. It stars Jesse Eisenberg as founder Mark Zuckerberg, along with Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake as the other principals involved in the website's creation. Neither Zuckerberg nor any other Facebook staff were involved with the project, although Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of the website, was a consultant for...

4:55 AM
:P

@iglvzx sweet. We'll now listen to more techsupportblues/wtfs from you then :D

@Sathya Yep totally.

@Sathya Haha. Yeah...

lol
and?
Its actually fairly harmless.
Unless you eat it
Remember folks. Yellowcake isn't for eating.

5:32 AM
Trolls everywhere.
"“ When I began to vomit again, for the second time in four days, I noticed that my vomit had changed and that there was blood in my vomit. ”
"Ok for cleaning teeth, not so great for killing ants.."

There's always the danger of some asshole refining it in his house :P

lol
you will need LOTS of it
oh
and a large powerplant
and... either a particle accelerator or a very large array of centrifuges
maybe both

I think Boris knows a guy...
DealExtreme reseller or something. :P

lolol

5:36 AM
naw, he has other sources...
He seems to know every internet "psst, buddy want a deal" guy ;p

LOL, my local news is covering a story about a mannequin head found at a beach.

ahh, head lines

pfunny

@HackToHell On a date: "Enough about me, tell me about you." ... "Well, I like going on walks with my dog and playing the guitar. Also, I have a nuclear powerplant in my kitchen."

5:47 AM
xD

(A wild female appears!)

There has been a small melt down, but do not worry :P

@iglvzx Noticed.

She can talk, too.

"Surprise, I can talk!"

5:49 AM
I'm like Meowth.

I feel out of place when someone refers something to Pokemon.

lol
@Aarthi All evil ?

@jokerdino Why is that?

i never watched one. That's why.

Bob
@jokerdino Is it anything to do with this?
As of this writing, Ubuntu 6.10 and Firefox 2.0 have left my computer a complete mess.
3

5:51 AM
@Bob ugggh. :/

Pokemons and Dinos just do not go together

what he said xD ^

Oh. I must know now.

Anyway, I was just here to troll Troll!@Sathya. But he knows where to find me.

xkcd has an awesome comic for every ocassion

5:52 AM
@Aarthi He's always gone when you need him. But easy to find otherwise.

@iglvzx Pretty much. He's like a bottle opener. You keep tripping on it when you raid your kitchen drawers
but the second you need it? it's totally vanished
And i'm out. 'night all

oh poor @JasperLoy

user19161
@jokerdino Er, you make the most mysterious remarks to me you know. Yesterday you pinged me mysteriously too.
4

lol. Socially awkward penguin. Walks into a room. Someone immediate walks out.

We have a Bebierleiber here !!!

5:55 AM
@JasperLoy you deserve it. What can i say?

user19161
@jokerdino OK seriously do you have some hidden meaning there?

ahh, we're invaded by ubuntuites i see ;p

@JourneymanGeek he uses Debian.

@HackToHell Ahem. Behold: biebian.sourceforge.net

@iglvzx TOO. MUCH. PINK! MY EYES ARE BURNING.

5:56 AM
Holy FS !!

I see a website and i want to paint it bllllllaaaaacccckkkkkkkk

@JasperLoy Not really.

user19161
@jokerdino OK. Because if you do, you should let me know. Don't worry. I won't get upset or anything.

@JasperLoy He is a joker, as you can see...

@JasperLoy Deal then.
@iglvzx I almost forgot about it. It all makes sense now...

5:59 AM
@jokerdino You almost forgot your username?

user19161
The thing is, a single chat line can have over 9000 meanings.

See ya guys, got to go to school

@JasperLoy Totally ;)
@HackToHell See ya. Have a good day

@iglvzx I lose track of what I mean at certain times. So, a reminder like this helps :))
@HackToHell cya
@JasperLoy Hmm..

user19161
@jokerdino The thing about me is, people see only 1 meaning but I see 10.

6:01 AM
lol you are being paranoid.

user19161
@HackToHell Are you a Belieber too?

@jokerdino Maybe you are just not paranoid enough. <_<

user19161
@jokerdino No, I just have a beautiful mind...

@JasperLoy I know he is a fan of another celebrity.

@JasperLoy I sure hope not.
@iglvzx So, you are paranoid too huh?
@JasperLoy I doubt so but I take your point.
@iglvzx Leo probably..

user19161
6:05 AM
@jokerdino Er, that line also has over 9000 meanings, see?

I also said you are being paranoid, see?
And I have no idea why you came into this room today. I didn't even mysteriously ping you this time.

@jokerdino Not really. Just realistic/cautious.

I have a wild suspicion that you are dropping into chat rooms that I normally hang out :P
@iglvzx That's what most paranoid people say.. #justsaying

user19161
@jokerdino Haha, in a way you did with that opening line.

@jokerdino Dude, you just made them more paranoid. You are stalking them, I know it!

user19161
6:07 AM
@jokerdino Er no, I am not into guys. :-)

@JasperLoy I pinged you after you joined the room. Really.

hands out tin foil hats made out of aluminium
3

@iglvzx Who? What? Where?
@JourneymanGeek Thanks.
@JasperLoy o0

user19161
@jokerdino That sentence of mine is true. Reread it.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Thanks, mine just broke

6:08 AM
Thats the mind control rays at work ;p

@Bob Aluminum foil is not the most sturdy material.

@JasperLoy I invalidate your statement.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Might need to triple layer them!

user19161
@jokerdino It just means that "o poor" is mysterious. QED.

15 mins ago, by iglvzx
lol. Socially awkward penguin. Walks into a room. Someone immediate walks out.

6:10 AM
@JasperLoy that wasn't actually mysterious. As you dropped into the chat room, someone else left..

user19161
@jokerdino Yeah I guess it's a joke. One that I might feel sensitive about because of previous secret events.

@JasperLoy It's okay. Money isn't everything.

lol

@JasperLoy Reminds me of that other movie which had Tom and Nicole.

There you are. Someone was looking for you
We scared her away

6:12 AM
so I hear
boo

@Bob: naw, too many layers and it amplifies the effect man...

user19161
@iglvzx You are one of those who use okay instead of OK.

okayface.com/okay-face.jpg
i have it memorized for some reason ^

@JasperLoy Yes. Is this not okay?

user19161
@iglvzx It's OK. But I just don't get it. It's longer and it's derived from OK.

user19161
6:15 AM
Some people might use okay thinking that it is the original form, but the original form is OK.

@JasperLoy There is not general consensus, unfortunately.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Damn, that explains those strange thoughts I was having D:

@Bob Was it one of those thoughts where you think your name is spelled backwards?

The hell?

@jokerdino Don't ruin the joke!

user19161
6:17 AM
Same thing goes for deejay and DJ.

user19161
Or emcee and MC.

@iglvzx It was too funny to be comprehended.

:( Okay...

user19161
@iglvzx ig seems familiar to me. Which room have I seen you in?

Stalker mode on.

user19161
6:21 AM
@jokerdino Er, who is the stalker, you or me?

Do I look like a stalker to you?!

@JasperLoy 99% of the time I spend on Stack Exchange in on Super User. You may have seen me around Meta.StackOverflow or Chess.StackExchange. I recently designed an ad for them:
4
A: What would be a good community promotion ad?

Ed Dean@iglvzx here! What do you guys think of this as a community ad? What should the title attribute (hover text) be?

@JasperLoy: another guy with a confusingly similar name is on AU chat

@JasperLoy This is also my Gravatar profile pic, so it is on other websites, too.

user19161
@iglvzx Yeah I am surprised how many sites use gravatar which is not the same as avatar.

6:23 AM
@JourneymanGeek eh?

user19161
Seeing how so many questions on superuser are on linux, maybe I should not have created ubuntu and linux accounts. One superuser account is enough.

Bambi eyes

user19161
Anyway @jokerdino I remember what you look like, MWAHAHA.

On the internet, no one knows your a dino
On the other hand, typing with those tiny arms must be a pain.

@JasperLoy And you call me a stalker. Hah
@JourneymanGeek except that my username gives it away.
@JourneymanGeek Unfortunately, yes.

6:29 AM
lol

user19161
Anyway, thanks for giving me three stars in this room! I love stars.

@JasperLoy Thank me for that. People love me too much <3

user19161
@iglvzx Er no, I don't think you know what I'm thinking!

@JasperLoy "poor" --> "money"

user19161
@jokerdino People? Who?

6:34 AM
...

user19161
@iglvzx Which celebrity? Me?

user19161
Anyone else here having problems with chat on linux chrome?

Flash or what?

user19161
It's just that messages don't load. I literally refresh almost every minute.

Get Firefox, really.

6:37 AM
@JasperLoy Google Chrome has been glitchy lately with the v20 release

I'll check on Chrome for you anyway.

user19161
@jokerdino Well, I want pepper flash.

user19161
@jokerdino No need to.

Chrome chat doesn't seem to have a problem here.

user19161
@iglvzx 19 was the same for this matter.

6:38 AM
Must have been the Debian. Hahaha

user19161
@jokerdino It happens sometimes, not always, but often enough.

user19161
@jokerdino Maybe you are right.

Yep.

user19161
If Ubuntu goes back to gnome shell I might switch to it.

there is a gnome-shell remix WIP if you want.

user19161
6:41 AM
Well, I like to use a distro's default desktop.

@JasperLoy Xubuntu

user19161
And it's true that the ubuntu gnome shell is not too stable.

user19161
For that matter ubuntu unity is not too stable either.

@JasperLoy There is a gnome-shell as default remix coming up next release.

user19161
And my hardware is decent.

user19161
6:42 AM
@jokerdino You are in charge I know.

@JasperLoy: Where's the fun in that?

@JasperLoy I wish I was.

tends to favour slightly more obscure, basic desktops over the latest fancy smanzy ones ;p

Smanzy. Sounds like a nice word.

@JourneymanGeek Microsoft Bob! toastytech.com/guis/bob.html

6:45 AM
hm
wierdly enough? I think that had a few interesting features
most of the icons were vector graphics (so were in theory, resolution independant), and it was the first major attempt to move past the WIMP paradigm

"Bob required a minimum of a 486 with 8 megs of ram, 30 megs of free disk space, and 256 color VGA. Many computers of the day did not meet these minimum requirements."

Almost reminds me of vista ;)
(also, bob least runs on XP. Tried it once just for the hell of it)

@bob runs on XP? That is totally hilarious.
M$ @Bob FTW!

boo, poor @Bob, to be associated with what many consider the worst OE ever ;p

That is an understatement.

Bob
7:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek D:

8:16 AM
er.. wrong link
wonders if that infopanel is a DIY unit or stock

@JourneymanGeek so that's what you are up to?

naw
just something someone linked
my system in progress is simple and black ;p

i am talking about the puppies

oh ;p
I just have that site on my RSS feeds ;p

O_o

8:19 AM
Was linking it to random people.

haha, that totally works.

Bob
@iglvzx o.O

Bob

epic

Bob
@Sathya ?

@Bob ek is one, Lund is your, um, let's say "family jewel"....

It's a Hindi joke.. sorta

Bob
o.O

9:48 AM
Trying out GitHub for Windows... I've stuck mostly with Mercurial and TortoiseHg because it is extremely easy. Let's see if GitHub can win me over.

@iglvzx it just might,.

@Sathya I prefer GitHub.com's interface over BitBucket.org's. So, if I can stick to Git, that would be nice. :P

Bob
@iglvzx How's its shell integration?

@Bob Non-existent or I don't see it... The application itself is very easy to use, though.
Changes to files in the repo are picked up instantly and you can see the diffs right there.
@Bob Did you mean with Windows Explorer or with command line shells?
It supports any command line shell that is compatible. You can add your own configuration

Bob
@iglvzx Primarily Explorer... The CLI usually just involves adding a directory with git to the path :\
@iglvzx Ah. I rather like Git Extensions' Explorer integration (once I got used to it)
The VS2010 integration was excellent. They've changed it drastically in the latest version, which I'm still getting used to.

10:05 AM
@Sathya I like the Github for Windows app.

@iglvzx I still like it as well. Even though I think it was a mistake ever using it :D

@OliverSalzburg lol

10:22 AM
@iglvzx :)

yo, @Sathya can unfreeze a room for me?

#no

@Sathya I'm starting to organize my AutoHotkey scripts. Designed a way to have a sort of framework that is easy to work on. It's on GitHub now. :) github.com/iglvzx/IGHelper

I hate that GitHub doesn't display file sizes.

10:30 AM
@OliverSalzburg Oo. That is kind of important. Especially with pushing to the online repo

Well, I mean the website
You could be looking at a folder full of empty files without knowing it

Oh. That's important coming the other way then.
XD

Like, when browsing a project, I like to find a big file with lots of source to get a feel of the quality of the project.
This is really slowed down without knowing file sizes :P

I see. Yeah, it shows the file sizes, but not until you are viewing an individual file

Bob
@iglvzx You have an AHK script to open FF's profile manager? o.O

10:36 AM
@Bob Yes. How do you think I quickly create new profiles for testing and answering on SU? :P

Bob
@iglvzx Uhm.. firefox.exe -no-remote -profilemanager in the start menu search box?
Cause that's what I do :P

I have many more scripts. I just started transferring them over to my new system/repo.

Bob
Alternatively, make a profile you keep clean, call it something like "blank" and just run firefox.exe -no-remote -p blank rather than making a new one
I ended up doing that because I couldn't be bothered deleting the profile when I was done :P

@Bob I see. :)

@iglvzx nice

10:43 AM
Alright, well, I'm off to bed. Good night everyone!

Bob
@iglvzx The rest of it looks way too complicated for an AHK script :P
@iglvzx Night!

this is all very web 2.0 isn't it

@Bob I know. But I want something that is flexible and easy to work on. :)

Bob
@iglvzx It does look nice, but I think that's the first time I've ever seen #include used practically (in AHK)

@Bob I have that, to use it, I just click the Firefox icon :D

10:46 AM
AHAHA. Okay. I'm off to bed for real now
