Laws are useful, but can also give a false sense of completeness. LDS scriptures actually spell this out nicely: Mosiah 4:29 "And finally, I cannot tell you all the things whereby ye may commit sin; for there are divers ways and means, even so many that I cannot number them." D&C 58:27-29 "27 Verily I say, men should be aanxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;

28 For the power is in them, wherein they are aagents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their breward.
And of course, Matthew 5, as curiousdanni said, also makes it clear that simply doing what the law says is not actually enough to actually BE righteous.
Sorry for the footnote letters I left in those citations.

@kutschkem I like how Mosiah 4:49 puts it about slothfulness, which is consistent with one of the 7 capital vices. About completeness, what would an LDS theologian say about St. Augustine's dictum: "Love, and do what you will" ?
Another question is how would LDS theology links 1) God's will with 2) commandments (as indicative prescription implanted in our conscience) and with 3) God's specific plan for an individual, and 4) freedom for humans to choose within a range of lawful possibilities?

Q: How do we forgive our debtors?

Ola SandeLord's prayer says: And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. In this sentence it seems assumed that we are capable to forgive "our debtors". I do not understand how we can choose to do such a thing and then just do it? Is it enough to wish it or must we do more that? For me...

@Elishaponders... Cannot resist to answering the above Philosophy.SE question. Tried to keep it as simple as possible, like a Sunday School answer :-) @PeterTurner
