did I do too harsh of a hack job to this question:

Q: Are contraceptives ok to treat other conditions?

CaitlinWhat does the Catholic church teach about the use of the hormone medications normally proscribed for use as birth-control to regulate the symptoms of PMS or other conditions brought on by hormone imbalances? Specifically in situations where they could not be used as birth control because the pe...

@waxeagle Oh boy! Expect more of this as the site grows, I'm afraid. :-(
@waxeagle That's a fine and decent edit.

@JonEricson yeah, I'm not usually this nice, but it's actually a legit question that I haven't seen, just couched in a whole bunch of unecessary baggage...
doesn't hurt that it ref's the blog either
@C.Ross we're about to gradumatate!

@waxeagle congratulations!!!

@C.Ross yeah, Jin was in here the other day asking about design stuff, 'twas very exciting, although it's going to be a unique challenge for him

@waxeagle no doubt!
are you at least getting a cross icon?

Sep 17 at 17:01, by wax eagle
no crosses, no fishes, and sure as heck no fishes with crosses for eyes
that's my opinion :)

@waxeagle lol, the latter I will agree on

(also apparently the JW's aren't big fans of crosses)

but you just ruled out about every traditional symbol of Christianity
@waxeagle hmmmmmm

@C.Ross I think we're going to look towards Alpha + Omega, and I'm arguing towards the Chi-Rho, but not sure if that will fly

my wife recommends the chalice, which represents communion?
@waxeagle that's solid

12:23 AM
@C.Ross perhaps, maybe an old school Renaissance theme would be cool (alhtough you've got to be careful with chalices, the Unitarians use a flaming chalice)

@waxeagle oi, yeah

@C.Ross and this is the minefield we walk :)

yep

@JonEricson that would be my preferred logo symbol, but I understand if people feel it's not recognizable enough

12:33 AM
@waxeagle I certainly recognize it

@waxeagle I like the circle too for some reason. It reminds me of a wheel, but not too new-agey.

@JonEricson I think I agree about the circle, I wouldn't mind seeing jin go with a celtic knot general design integrating something like what you posted
hopefully he gets around to the meta post soon

@JonEricson something along that line
btw, did you hear about the new scrap of text they recently found (I think it's coptic?)
they're saying it might be another early gnostic gospel
some readings have it quoting Jesus as saying he has a wife, others that he is using metaphorical language...

@waxeagle No, that was a great edit. I really am glad she didn't ask on the blog. I didn't see the part about "going and asking my wife" until I had already answered.

@PeterTurner it was just odd tbh

3:25 AM
Did somebody say the site is graduating? Is there a Meta post coming with details or anything?
Never mind.. I saw Jin's comment. Again, I'm late to know, but how cool is that?

@DavidStratton it's quite cool :)
not sure when it will happen officially, (it will be whenever our design is complete and ready to be switched on), Jin said he had one site in front of us

3:47 AM
@waxeagle It might be a fake and it's of little historical value (if you want to know about Jesus) since it's 4th century or later: evangelicaltextualcriticism.blogspot.com/2012/09/…

@JonEricson very interesting

My two cents on the site design: Rather than having a symbol, a pohotograph of a bunch of Christian books - a Bible, some books on doctrine, perhaps, maybe a Book of Mormon. It has the scholarly look @Caleb was talking about, and conveys the message that the site is about studying Christianity...
I need a spell checker. At any rate, it would also not contain any symbols that might be taken as sacrilegious, offensive, or simply not representative of a denomination.
I'm picturing them on a bookshelf, or maybe stacked up on a desk - a person studying one of the books, and a whole stack next to him/her in a library, or a nice desk that looks like the office of a professor or Pastor or Priest.

@DavidStratton (you can edit chats if you want to)
@DavidStratton a theme surrounding books? that's intriguing
no matter what sect we're from I think we all pretty well identify as "people of the book" :)

How do I edit a chat post? I see no edit link... I do see a drop-down type thing on the left, but my only available option is "flag for moderator". Not worth bothering a moderator to fix a typo. ;-)
At any rate, something that conveys this feeling, bit with an adult: visualphotos.com/photo/2x2737541/…

@david there is a limited window to edit. but if you can edit it's under the arrow at left

@DavidStratton I think it'd be pretty neat if we at least had a bookshelf on the bottom with some of the seminal works of All Christendom. The Bible, City of God, Pilgrims Progress, Orthodoxy, etc.. They could even have links to where they exist in Librivox, Gutenberg or Archive.org.

@PeterTurner Mere Christianity...
It'd be awesome to add more books to our "shelf" as we find new favorites.
... Cost of Discipleship ...

interesting thought

Q: How do I propose artwork for this site, once it gets gradu-mated?

Affable GeekSo, I really want to suggest that we incoroprate P52 - the oldest extant fragment of the New Testament we have: It would convey the "People of the Book" and the scholarly thing we're going for. So, how would I suggest it?

@Trig - Mind if I turn your question about prisoners into real q?
