Q: Thank you, Shog9

Mithical@Shog9, a longtime Community Manager here at Stack Exchange, has just Tweeted that he is no longer working at Stack Overflow: @shog9: Well... I suddenly find myself in need of work. If anyone's hiring: C++, JavaScript, C#, SQL + solid background in social software, community-driven developm...

SE has fired two of their most highly respected community managers. As if everything from last year wasn't enough, this is making me really think how much I want to be here.

But at the same time I feel like, despite the absences of Caleb and Nathaniel, that our site is really quite healthy right now. A lot of people are posting really good questions and answers.

@curiousdannii I don't know the story, but when I saw that I instantly felt intense anger. I can't help but think it's got a lot to do with "everything from last year."

@Mr.Bultitude It really doesn't make sense. Even if they had to downsize, I would've thought they would let go one of the more junior community managers, Shog9 has so much institutional knowledge.

Q: I am stepping down as moderator

El'endia StarmanEight years. All the way from September 2011 to today, I never once imagined that I would be writing this resignation notice. I can hardly believe that I am writing this now. Through the whole absolute train wreck of a fiasco that was SE forcibly stripping Monica Cellio of her diamonds and then ...

@curiousdannii This can't be about needing to downsize. Their own explanation is that they want to "grow in 2020" and "ensure that they have a seat at the table". Whatever the specifics of the two CMs cases may be — SE is both feet into identity politics and that's driving some large portion of their decisions.
@Caleb Nothing makes sense. Shog9 and Robert have never appeared opposed to identity politics as such.
It might have made a little bit of sense if the SO powers-that-be had declared that the SE network was being majorly downsized, in which case I could imagine some CMs resigning, but it appears that Shog and Robert were fired/let go.
No not directly (although they may have had to occasionally sit on their personal opinions for work reasons), but both of them are the sort that don't put up with too much nonsense and will speak out when something starts really not adding up. Even if they didn't have qualms about some modern approaches to gender issues I could see them speaking out against the way things were getting out of hand. I have to think they could see the collateral damage that was being sustained.
Most of the code of conduct/gender stuff had quieted down anyway. Unless SE is about to push something big in that area again.

Right. SE is imploding. (It might pull through in the end; who knows?)

Q: Always be ready to give a reason for your hope (with citations)

Peter TurnerWith only 2 mods left (and with all respect to Mason) only one that actively moderates the site. Flag handling might be a bit off. I'm probably going to have to delete more posts and leave less comments. That means descending straight through eternal, divine, natural, and stackexchange law st...

@Nathanielisprotesting what's up, still protesting, I see! I'm doing my part to protest by continuing to moderate this site.
@PeterTurner Happened to see the drama this morning while lurking on MSE, and thus had some voting to do on Christianity's meta.
Well it's pretty lame, I like Shog9 a lot. Never cared much for Robert Cartiano though.
We'd probably have the Bucco de Beppo Catholicism.SE of my dreams. If it weren't for him lumping us all together.
And yes, I still can't square my beliefs and priorities in life with any significant involvement on the Stack Exchange platform. I can't rule out asking a question here or there, but any benefit I get using the SE platform I have to square with me essentially volunteering for an organization that is deeply and vocally opposed to my worldview.
18:22
@Nathanielisprotesting your questions are too hard anyway, you'd be better off making your own website for smart Christians.
@PeterTurner =) I do sometimes ask easy questions, though more often on other SE sites, it's true...

Maybe we'll be able to move to Codidact eventually, but it will be a while before the software is ready.
Yeah, I figure I'll come back here and spread the word about Codidact when it's ready.

@curiousdannii My dream, when I learned of Monica's treatment, was for us to be able to move the site's content to a Q&A site on another engine. I don't know if we'd actually be able to migrate any content or not, but I sure hope some comparable Q&A engine can host this community one day.
