@El'endiaStarman Crazy. There's a notch on the "fake lunar landings" tally. Lol.

@El'endiaStarman Why would we want to build a new Saturn V rocket? It used old, superseded technology. We can build a far better rocket today. And in fact, NASA is doing just that with the Space Launch System, which will be the most powerful rocket ever built.
It's not that we've lost the ability to build huge rockets, and therefore can't build a Saturn V. It's that we've moved on from the Saturn V to far better rocket technology than we possessed four or five decades ago when the Saturn V was king of the hill.
In other words, it's apples to oranges compared to Noah building a huge ocean-going vessel, and boats then reverting back to the rather small, simple affairs that existed in ancient times.
@LeeWoofenden And SpaceX with their Falcon 9 and soon, Falcon 9 Heavy.
@El'endiaStarman Yes. We're still building big rockets. Just not the same ones we built 40 or 50 years ago.
@LeeWoofenden Apples and oranges are both fruits. bruised reed said it in words: after the Flood, Noah's family and descendants wouldn't have needed to know how to build huge ships. Thus, it would have been very easy to lose that knowledge very quickly.
At any rate, the whole idea that there was a literal ark, and that's what Genesis 6-9 is talking about, is utterly ludicrous.
It can be believed only by people whose minds have been muddled by centuries of accretion of false doctrine.
@LeeWoofenden Oh, I agree with that. (Though I wouldn't use such strong words.) Just pointing out a flaw in one of the arguments against the Ark's existence.
05:10
@El'endiaStarman We shouldn't even have to have the argument. But here we are, having a societal argument with people who understand neither the Bible nor science, but claim to be experts at both.
Their understanding of science and Scripture is equally shoddy.
There's a good argument for just ignoring them altogether as lunatics. Unfortunately, a lot of unsophisticated people actually listen to them and think their insane ramblings actually make sense.
05:26
As for strong words: I have no patience with the idea that Creationists should be given a hearing and equal respect along with every other viewpoint. Some ideas are just plain wrong, and worthy of nothing but scorn. It's tricky sorting that out from the human beings who hold those ideas. But the ideas they hold to are ridiculous, and I have no problem at all calling a spade a spade.

And those ideas aren't benign. They do real damage. They fill people's minds with falsehoods that redirect and misdirect their lives in harmful ways, and prevent them from learning actual science and actual biblical truth that could guide them toward more sound and sensible ways of living.

@Piomicron Just finished reading the article. There really is no rebuttal, except, "It was a miracle." A story that was originally composed as an origin myth with deep spiritual and divine symbolism has been turned by present-day Creationists into materialistic mockery of its original grandeur and spiritual power.
17:41
@LeeWoofenden I did specify those who read the flood as more of a literal thing that happened.
18:04
@Piomicron Yes. Fortunately this isn't the main Q&A section of the site or my "answer" would get deleted! ;-)
