@GraceNote thanks for coming back to us is there any mileage in starting something on a different blogging platform and getting some statistics on things like interest/views/comments/referrals to the site. Then maybe migrating at some point in the future if SE decide to pursue blogs more in the future?
I wouldn't oppose setting something up off-site, but it would mean that it would be external so it wouldn't convenient, and I also can't guarantee any capability to import in the future, so I also wouldn't recommend it.
@GraceNote is there any problem with a site setting up its own blog (hosted elsewhere) and representing that blog as the blog for whatever.SE? That's a use of the SE name/brand, so want to check that. If we'd need to use some word like "unofficial" or have a disclaimer or something, that'd presumably be ok.
Obviously a site that does this takes on the burden of maintenance and risks not being able to import that content into a future SE-hosted blog.
@MonicaCellio The only problem is basically all the catches you maintained - you'd have to have all that explicit stuff about not being an official part of our network, you'd have to not use our branding, you'd have to maintain it on your own without any support from us nor guarantee of future support.
@GraceNote thanks for the pointer to the Arqade discussion. My question was basically what the restrictions/requirements would be; sounds like you've addressed that already so I'll go read.
Thanks. That's all clear. @GraceNote it doesn't actually look like a disclaimer is required per the legal document, though I think it's a good idea. Am I misreading?
Ah, it was more skirting the edges of "Do not use our name or logo in a way that might imply a false sense of partnership or endorsement with your product." is all.
Sure, that makes sense. If we were to create a blog out on WordPress or DreamWidth or wherever called "worldbuilders", and said in the description that it was an unofficial blog from users of WorldBuilding Stack Exchange (and linked the site because promotion), that'd be kosher, right?
Not claiming to represent SE and not even using "Stack" or "Exchange" in its name.
