When you have a negative degree, you can just add 2pi (or 360 degrees) to figure out its positive corresponding angle, right?
Yes
Okay thank you
er yes? :)
sorry - I was trying to answer a bunch of work things, but yes... add or remove as many multiples of 2pi as you need to get it in a good range.
Sometimes you just need to think it out loud, you know :D
Definitely - I do all my best thinking out loud. My team at work know this all too well >.>; Though they haven't had to put up with it for almost a year ^^;
00:44
@Graylocke or @bobble Tutoring help?
Here-ish :) I can try my best.
I'll try, but if anyone comes in that I don't trust I will bolt
Okay, so we're converting polar equations, and I'm really confused about my math teacher's answer and her process
@bobble I can start making this room into a gallery, but I'll hold off on doing that
(tailhugs a bobble)
Anyhow, so I'm supposed to convert this equation r=1/(1+sin(theta)) into a rectangular equation
So I understand the first few steps
Multiply both sides by (1+sin(theta)) to isolate the 1
distribute the right side so that the equation looks like r+rsin(theta)=1
I'll just list out my process down below
00:48
okay
nods nods
r+y=1
r=y-1
sqrt(x^2+y^2)=y-1
x^2+y^2=(y-1)^2
x^2+y^2=y^2-2y+1
x^2=-2y+1
x^2-1=-2y
y=-(x^2-1)/2
Looks okay, right?
nods nods
Okay, so here' what my math teacher did
I have zero clue what she's trying to do
Why did the inner expression 1-rsin(theta) become 4-2y??
Well it should be 1-y, I think at least
00:54
Hm, I input the above expression into desmos, and the teacher's answer isn't even the same
She probably made an error that we have to talk about tomorrow
Ohhh haha
She solved the wrong question halfway through
So there's problem 64 which is r=1/(1+sin(theta))
and 65 (which we skipped), which was 4/(1+2sin(theta))
@PrinceNorthLæraðr parentheses?
I was genuinely so confused
I think bobble is right... rsin(theta) is y... so...
very confusing
(also I do not understand that "puzzle" about 4s...)
There is some context surrounding that user - they posted another self-answered "puzzle" that no one could understand - but you can't see that as it is deleted
I would VTC as Needs Details or Clarity, except I am still on my no-visible-actions thing and I really do not want to deal with it
01:07
I am also sad that I put up a nice solution that is incomplete because of the puzzle... and it has less votes than the puzzle which is borked ;p
(I'm not really that sad)
Borg! o/
\o/ :D
I just came back from a really nice social-distancing dinner, my friend is learning how to cook so he invited us over for steak and cheesy potatoes and oh my lord it was so yummy
i wish i could cook
:D
sounds yum
how has it been going with you guys? :)
01:15
I now want lunch >.>
I have been seeing lots of things I want to edit or comment on and refraining from doing either. (I did two extremely minor edits that I was 100% sure were the intent of the OP)
by the way, your opinion on the 4s question?
i just re-opened discord so give me a bit to catch up
what is the 4s question?
-5
Q: Using the digit 4 exactly four times and 4 signs only and only the operation + is allowed how to get 10?

ExtrazloveUsing the digit 4 exactly four times and 4 signs only and only the operation + is allowed how to get 10? for example: $(44 - 4) / 4 = 10$ does not work because 44 is a number and not the digit 4,and we used a - not just +. $4+4+4-\sqrt{4}=10$ is a wrong answer even though we have 4 digits of...

(my opinion was registered quite clearly in the comments, I think ;p )
this seems.... controversial
01:21
I think it's just a bad question
yeah, it's poorly worded
i get why people were confused
can you understand it?
And the intended solution is a bit cheeky, tbh
01:23
The intended solution, if posted by anyone other than the OP - I would assume it was breaking a rule, say not in the spirit of the problem, and flag as NAA
Actually yes
Multiplication is an operation
And using the parenthesis to indicate a multiplication is still an operation
Also, 4(4)=/=2
Wouldn't you have to define the function?
they did
> Let the function 4(x) for x real such that 4(4)=2 for x=4.
Oh, didn't read that
I somehow read that as 4*4
That's... what?
Okay, yeah no, that with that logic, I can say:
> Let the function 4(x) for x real such that 4(4)=5 for x=4. 4(4)+4(4)=10
Boom. 4 4s, and addition
but are you using 4 signs, for their non-understandable definition of "sign", is the question
01:28
argh it's just.... not a clear question. they should have specified what they defined as an "operation"
also a sign
Wait, a function doesn't count as a "sign" does it? Also, technically, the equal sign is a sign as well
I'm using four signs, if the function notation is a sign: 2 function signs, one addition sign, and an equal sign
the comments here have some information about what they consider a "sign", even if I can't understand it
and then the stupidity of "4" is a "digit" and a "function"
and xhienne's answer is actually perfectly valid regardless
the name of a function is not a digit mathematically.
then we go into "this isn't about computers"
which apparently dismisses base-16
which is mathematical
I'm going to post my "non-answer" in the comment, to show why the question is flawed anyways
bleh. just a poorly worded question
Wait, I think I only use 3 "signs"
Oh, I can't count
I am genuinely so confused
Wait no my operation does use four signs. What is a sign?
is "()" two signs or one?
that's the ambiguity that makes the question bad
01:38
it's not a "sign" at all -.-;
if i was writing a similar question i would just list what are valid signs
it's 2 symbols, perhaps... and may count as 1 operation...
but there is no sense in which () is a "sign" -.-;
Right
It looks like they're counting "()" are two "signs"
also suggesting that unary + is cheating when defining a function to be called 4() not in the puzzle answer is supposed to be fine??
arrrrgh
01:40
I am pulling out, I have hit an artery :P
I no longer care about this question ;p
same :p
I am watching it in morbid fascination, though I won't interact
Okay here we go. I can say 4(44)=6, and 4(44)+4=10
Equal sign is a sign by all accounts
The thing is... if it is a programming question WHO CARES?
I can define any sets of symbols at the top of my C code to mean anything I want?
01:47
#define 4_%4##44 10
Wait, if 4 is being used as a function, does it count as a digit?
Depends on what you are talking about -.-;
Mathematically, no. If you are talking about the symbols forming the statement, then yes?
Because in 4(x) the 4 is being used the same way as f(x)
As in, it's just a variable
well it's a function name
which means it isn't in a number
01:49
so mathematically it isn't a digit... it's just a symbol that is normally used to indicate a value when it is a digit in a number -.-;
By variable I just meant "the thing you put in front of (x) to call it a function"
eh - I don't care! \o/
(grins) this is a pointless argument :)
Yeah, I wasted way too much time on this - I was going to work on my composition
throws up virtual hands and goes to do something else
"he does the same with a hexadecimal 4 ,just his demonstration gives 4 and 3 signs at the same time.and the question wants 4 exact sign not 4 or 3 " does not even make sense
01:52
Tempted to post my comment as an answer, but that's kind of being obnoxious
nvm I am letting go... letting go...
o/'
aye, I shalt stop. I wasted 45 minutes on nonsense
it is only that I think xhienne's answer is more correct that made me fight ;p
At this point they're just making stuff up
it isn't 3 "signs" anyway... it is 4, using unary + ... the fact that it is not required has nothing to do with its validity... and the fact that 4(4) needs to be defined outside the puzzle makes it less valid.
argh stop making me thing about this
lol
01:57
My second answer still hold true, so shrugs I'm going to finish up my composition
resists urge to sing Let It Go :p
was kind of humming it >.>;
@Sciborg puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/107001/… were you trying to solve this?
I only got as far as step 1, so I was interested in how to multi-step these puzzles ^^;
not particularly, just the first font was really bad on my eyes so i left the comment asking them to transcribe
i do not know how to solve it :p
Well I did the first bit..?
I am pretty sure the solution to the bit with the horrible font is JACK BAUER
Isn't he from 24?
ahhh, that would make sense :D
sounds like you are onto something
02:06
I don't know what that has to do with the text messages ;.;
me neither, yeah
Argh I just like need to not
This guy makes no sense
@Sciborg interestingly, the image is from a phone in Norway ;p
02:51
Gonna try recording part 1 of my audition today. Wish me luck O_o
03:31
GL!

1 hour later…
04:51
Eeek I have round 1 of my mock trial tournament on Tuesday O_o
@bobble My argument for mock trial is done, do you mind if I share it with you tomorrow?
email is fine! I have a tutoring session lined up for tomorrow, just warning you, so less time than usual
ooh o.o;
that's something I never had to do ^^;
I can try sharing it right now, actually
@bobble Shared with you via Google Doc. You could just comment directly onto the document
Gonna go. Good night!
05:08
Good night :)
@PrinceNorthLæraðr it has been received
nightnight!

18 hours later…
23:31
AHHHHHHHH
AHHHHH
AHHHHHHHHH
internal screaming in rage
My trial is fricking TOMORROW and now I need to make more additions to my argument AGAIN
uh oh
i'm doing homework right now, would it be okay if i only looked at your argument tonight? or do you need it sooner?
That's fine
I need to revise it anyways
by the way do you just want me to look for typos and grammar stuff? or other things? i'm not entirely clear on how this will be judged so i'm unsure what kinds of improvements i can suggest beyond copyedits
Grammar stuff is fine. Maybe some stylistic edits or rewording stuff that might sound better. But don't worry too much about the legal jargon
I am just now really stressed
I can send the cursed picture
this would either increase or decrease your stress level
23:43
Both at the same :P
I could cast Hold Person on your inner demons, as long as they are humanoid
Unfotunately, demons are considered fiends
I could cast Lesser Restoration ("being Jesus") and remove the Stressed condition (actually that isn't a condition but who cares)
I was confused by what you meant by "being Jesus". I'm pretty sure Jesus was a cleric who cast True Resurrection... on himself
Well that was only when he was levelled up
When he was just level 3, all he had was Lesser Restoration to perform dime-a-dozen miracles
23:48
Can you be a cleric if you are the deity?
The important questions
Exactly
Hm, only clerics and druids can cast True Resurrection
@PrinceNorthLæraðr @Sciborg please answer this question
Okay, the thing is, the Bible says that Jesus's hands and feet still had holes in them, and his side was still pierced after being resurrected. So I'm not sure if he actually cast True Resurrection because True Resurrection closes all mortal wounds and stuff
But it doesn't seem like he suffered any of the "recovery period" shenanigans that comes from regular resurrection
Maybe Jesus was a wizard who cast Wish on himself and the DM (God) was like "Okay, so you do come back to life after 3 days, but while you're on the earth, you still keep the same body"
This is a very interesting theological question
can you determine the classes of any other biblical figures?
23:54
Hm
David was definitely a bard
I mean the dude literally exorcised demons out of King Saul by playing on his harp
which College?
I think sword or valor or whichever school is melee fighting because David was also a warrior
All the prophets were probably warlocks who sold their soul to God. Actually, pretty sure God buys your soul, but you can't like sell your soul to God
> College of SwordsXGtE
Thematically similar to College of Valor, College of Swords places more emphasis on offense than College of Valor, offering access to Fighting Style and some interesting options with Blade Flourish.

Blade Flourish is the subclass's signature ability, and it's awful. It eats your Bardic Inspiration dice for pitifully weak abilities. If you want similar capabilities, consider a College of Valor Bard with the Martial Adept feat or a few levels of Battlemaster Fighter. This subclass might be viable in games that start at 14th level or above once Master's Flourish comes
> College of ValorPHB
The martially-minded Bard will prefer the College of Valor. By improving the Bard's ability to wade into melee safely, the Bard can fill nearly every role in a party. If you're in a small party, this is an absolutely fantastic option. However, in a party of 4 or more the Valor Bard's lack of focus will make it hard for the College of Valor Bard to truly shine.
23:57
Hm, probably sword
David did a lot more like slashing in combat than like singing
Joshua was 100% a fighter. Probably champion sub-class
Ooh, Moses
Hm
I say Moses was a druid. I mean like parting waters, creating staff into snake, bringing plagues - sounds pretty druid-y to me if you ask me
I'll buy that
Abraham... not sure if he's the adventurer type to be honest
