No, seriously, this is way too ridiculous.
I kept VM with unupdated version of Windows and at this point tested both ways to update and now know for sure that I posted exactly only correct solution to both questions
https://superuser.com/questions/1189032/windows-update-showed-downloading-updates-95-for-hours/1778244?noredirect=1
https://superuser.com/questions/1572858/cannot-complete-these-windows-updates/1778245?noredirect=1#comment2774972_1778245.
Other answers do not work! This is reproducible. Error codes match. My answers are perfectly where they should be.
My answers will clearly save a person who finds these questions at least pair of hours. They are not trivial to find at all, it's much easier to find useless solutions than one I posted.
@halt9k no one except the downvoter knows who downvoted
and there's no such thing as a closed answer
it has closed label on it
deleted sure
deleted
and since the other question already has a selected answer - the other answer should be completely findable to whoever needs it
@JourneymanGeek "This post is hidden. It was deleted 6 days ago"
Yes, deleted
generally though we do want to discourage people from "Oh! I found a thing, let me post to every question it matches"

selected answer means not much, it doesn't matter
should I repeat, this s reproducible on Virtual Machine. My answer should clearly be there.
Selected answer means it worked for the OP
@JourneymanGeek it takes around 3 hours to find it, Superuser is supposed to have such type of questions and solutions
that's an oddly specific number
@JourneymanGeek if you check more carefully, this description is not about two my answers "Oh! I found a thing, let me post to every question it matches"
@JourneymanGeek because I know how to Google quite well and this solution is close to unfindable unless you have good deal of dedication
it often means there was no good alternative and question poster said thanks this way
not necessarily that it worked
but if "an in place install' fixed it for OP
there's no way to check back
12:01
obviously in place install is incorrect solution compared to downloading a simple update! What I posted is 10 mins, inplace install may take hours
And may reset settings too

@JourneymanGeek oh, most I said is related to 1607 answer - virtual machine I got 95% is 1607. 1703 answer has very similar symptoms, cumulative update stuck etc, so duplicating there is just very probably correct idea until it downvoted or upvoted.
@halt9k If you can make the answer distinct to the version - we might be able to review
at the very least its fine to say 'I've tested it specifically on 1703 and <blah blah> it works better than <answer> because..."
(sorry if I seem a little distracted, I'm also dealing with an issue elsewhere on another site ><)
