@Aaron I'm not sure how this relates to me.
@ChrisCudmore I think he means to ask you to go for a ride with him, on a bicycle built for two.
@Tester101 That's really sweet.
13:53
@ChrisCudmore because you are one of the few ones around who might know about the tandems in stanley park
14:46
I'm in Toronto! Stanley Park is 3000 miles away. It's only 500 miles further to Hyde Park in London.
15:41
Well, I took the all Canadian route. It's a bit shorter across the states, but I'm driving, I'd stay north of the border for my Canadian Coming of Age experience.
THe chances of you knowing about Stanley park are higher than @lsiunsuex knowing about Stanley park
He's closer to it.
16:02
Hmm. Just noticed that Google Maps uses the units of the starting location.
If you travel from Toronto to Florida, it will be measured in km. If you travel from Florida to Toronto, it's measured in mi.
Not sure how it determines the start point in this situation. It seems to start me from the middle of a field in Florida.
Is it roughly the geographic center?
I end up in a friendly looking place in Toronto.
I got the same spot.
in Fla. Looks like it's halft the N/s distance.
That's the square outside City Hall.
ON Bay St.
16:11
@ChrisCudmore did you guys plan that?
If you choose a city, you probably get the city hall.
haha. Except Florida.
Florida isn't a city.
So you probably get some logical central point.
Miami, FL puts me in front of somebody in witness protection's house.
New York City put me in Lower Manhattan, by the Municipal Building.
Talahassee put me in front of the state Capitol.
16:19
Dang, thought Fort Lauderdale, FL would have been in front of a nursing home.
Houston, City Hall.
Maybe it's center mass, unless a city asks to have it changed?
Some of the big US cities are difficult due to them being masses of smaller cities -- Like LA.
Sometimes I just don't understand people.

Q: Where can I connect the ground wire when replacing my oven heating element?

Ernest NicholsonMy old heating element finally burned out and had to be replaced. That element is not made anymore, but an appliance store gave me the part # for a replacement that works for that oven. I took out the old one and when I went to install the new one I noticed there isn't a place to screw on the g...

"I just figured I would check if this was okay to do" By asking random people on the internet.
2
Why not? That's how most people vote.
I've never seen a ground for an element.
If I touch an element, Electric shock is the least of my worries.
16:30
The maryland one is odd, it's in the middle of nowhere
I thought it would be Annapolis, but no
Again, it looks like the centroid of the area.
That's not even a completely crazy question, usually the ground wire does go to the frame of the chassis
4 to 10 #14 solid conductors (an insulated cover would be required when joining current carrying conductors).
what in the world would a non current carrying conductor be?
(ground I guess)
@Aaron Ground

Q: How do I choose and install regulators when installing 2psi natural gas lines?

cwdI am installing natural gas lines in my home. Got the permit as a homeowner from the city, ran 3/4" black iron pipe as a backbone and then 1/2" pipe from that to the appliances. I was under the impression that the appliances would hook directly to the gas lines at 2psi but the inspector said tha...

Isn't a regulator usually built in to the meter?
I think we should generally stay away from gas piping.
@ChrisCudmore I agree
16:35
I'll ask it on Meta
he removed it
and I never got to see the rest of his comment to me :(
It seems to be something that most people don't mess with (or at least don't ask about).
"@Aaron - just wanted to know if there is a generally acceptable way of doing it. Of course I will be asking the inspector but these guys act like they don't have much time to spend with you..."
@ChrisCudmore How far back from the appliance would be covered? When I hooked up the dryer in my house, I had to extend the gas line a couple feet. Would this be on topic?
Good Question. That's why we discuss these things on Meta.
My original intent was "Don't touch the damn piping!!!" But you raise a valid point for minor adjustments.
17:33
Does this title edit look OK? I'm not really sure what the OP is asking.
I'm confused.
@Tester101 By me?
by the question. I think the title is good. I just can't picture the beams
There's a left and right wall, a right beam, and cross beams (that run left to right). But I'm not sure of anything beyond that.
I think they poured the right beam, let it dry, then poured the 7 cross beams

so they are in the middle of a project on my street to put in sidewalks
but then the water company wants to replace the water main and sewer pipes as well so the project gets bigger blah blah
today I look outside and there's a bunch of guys in safety vests and hard hats standing around a hole in the road
never a good sign
It's even worse if water or fire is shooting from the hole.
Could be worse. We've had neighbourhoods get new sidewalks, just to have a utility dig them up a couple of months later.
a few weeks ago they did hit a gas line and the fire company came in

Q: How can I attach a ledger board to my house?

maple_shaftSpring is here so I finally started to take measurements for materials I will need to build a new deck on my recently constructed home. I just realized that this isn't going to be quite so simple as I originally planned. My house was constructed with engineered I beams and what I believe is an e...

So this is a good Q and A for the site
but it needs to explain stuff in smaller words
wtf is a 'hurricane clip' ?
@Aaron I believe it's an additional joist fastener to protect against high winds. It ties the joist directly to the beam

they also have a little remote controlled 2' steamroller
