where would this fit do you guys think
i need to fire up a windows cloud server - install some dental software on it, allow VNC access to it and either somehow develop time slots for students to access the server to play with the software or allow multiple logins to the same box to play with it
server fault or super user?
14:15
@lsiunsuex I think Server Fault is professional/business, and Super User is home/amateur. So I'd probably say Server Fault, but I could be wrong.
yeah probably

2 hours later…
16:00
Any mods awake? Project Update Thursday starts in 4 hours?
Did I miss a day somewhere?
@NiallC. someone screwed up AFAICT
Yes, you slept for 32 hours
@waxeagle You don't have to say someone, I apparently completely blew it. Give me a sec to fix it up. Thanks @NiallC.
16:16
BMitch has added an event to this room's schedule.
BMitch has removed an event from this room's schedule.
I think it's all better now. Give me a dunce hat if it's still screwed up.
@BMitch Weird, if I click on the added event, it says PUT starts in 3 hours in the box on the left, as well as the calendar page that says it starts tomorrow
Probably caching
Apparently they like to cache everything, it gets confusing
@BMitch yes. It's caching is a meme around here
16:32
They should give us a "update cache" button with a captcha to solve.
did everyone catch this gem from Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark, NJ?
Sir, it looks like you live in Dublin, Ireland. I've got 99 problems & your ditch ain't one MT @leedalyire Can u sort the pothole outside?
@lsiunsuex definitely not super user, and if it involves actual "coding" then maybe even SO
@Aaron nice
They say once you go black, you don't go back. Does that mean Cory Booker for President in 2016?
@BMitch Rice/Rubio
16:49
@Aaron boss already didn't like the additional $60 / month for a windows server so until we can actually turn a profit, its on hold - thank god - chalking that up to a really crazy thing to do (if not illegal from a licensing point of view)
Cory could drag everyone out of the Capital building while the angry mob with pitchforks burns it down.
17:16
so what do you do the day after you win your 2nd term ?
just go back to work? business as usual ?
@lsiunsuex basically. there will be a bunch of congressman wanting to make their final mark, so you find those guys and try to work with them...
its the 55th anniversary of the whopper!!! going to burger king!
@lsiunsuex any kind of sale? or just a significant day in burger history?
17:56
was some cupons - not sure where they came from
on the community cupon table here at work
@lsiunsuex gotcha
Another good one from Cory:
so this doesn't get leaked until after the campaign is over
I believe in you. I know this is a problem you can handle. RT @DAT_NIGGA_REEE a my nigga i m running out of hotpockets to put in the oven
but the news leaks new equipment the airforce has and where we're going to be in a given country well before it happens, etc...
18:10
@lsiunsuex datamining ftw.
last one and i'm done
"Wow! That was pretty amazing! After my husband and I prayed for the president and the country I opened up my Bible to the passage I was going to read tonight. It is 1 Timothy 2. I suggest that everyone takes a minute to read it. It's totally awesome!" posted to facebook last night by my brothers sister-in-law
religion DOES NOT belong in Politics
sounds like Obama had a true 21st century machine, wonder why he won?
@lsiunsuex that first verse is great advice. That third paragraph is probably one of the most contentious in the church today.
@lsiunsuex we're actually running a blog series over on C.SE this month on church and state. We've got one post up already.
my wife thinks their republicans which confuses it even more as shes (the sister in law) is 8 months pregnant
@lsiunsuex why does pregnancy status matter to political affiliation?
she says that romney said some crap about women being raised to be submissive to their husbands, blah blah blah
and the yet to be born child will be a girl
although i am impressed that people can memorize bible passages or even their locations in a book
if i had that kind of memory, i'd be proficient in 12 programming languages instead of 3 haha
18:24
@lsiunsuex it's not that hard, repetition is the key.
i'm seeing that your pretty religious @waxeagle
so we'll end this conversation :) i like to think i'm very religious, but probably not in the way you are; so we're going to piss off a moderator and i'm not in the mood to get banned today haha
18:36
I think @waxeagle is a pretty even-headed person, who is religious
they do exist
@lsiunsuex as far as bible passages, I'm sure you and I can quote passages from Nethack verbatim - it's all about what you care about
I can quote the bible better than many Christians and I'm an athiest
Quote = wrong term - I am better versed in it than many Christians. I can't cite chap/verse well though
many people memorize poetry too. Doesn't make them crazy
While trying to find his behind with both hands and a flashlight...
...he lost the flashlight.
I come by my atheism honestly. I read everything in the bible except for the minor prophets. Had memorized a fair bit of key verses. It's no harder than memorizing Shakespeare
@lsiunsuex lol hopefully @Aaron is right. I try to see thing from a nuanced perspective. I'm a Christian, but I can talk religion without getting either offended or into a massive argument. I moderate Christianity.SE for crying out loud :)
18:44
@TheEvilGreebo And now flashlights will come with warning labels
My abandoning of the church was due to crazy calvinists on one side, crazy catholics on the other, and a bunch of wishy washy anglicans and Uniteds that didn't stand for anything in the middle.
@ChrisCudmore fair assessment. I'm the first :)
@ChrisCudmore One atheist to another - that's not really proof either way about any kind of deity - just that people are idiots
Remember, everyone believes everything for a reason, and if you can understand their reason - you don't have to agree with it, but if you can understand it, it will go a long way towards making your own life happier
@Aaron Sometimes the reason is "I'm bat**** crazy!" ;)
18:47
Well, I'm on my Hug-a-Conservative campaign now. This division can't go on any longer.
20 years ago, 75% would marry someone on the other side of the political spectrum. Now it's about 20% (Don't have source, numbers are not a direct quote but reflective of the trend etc. etc.).
Wow, North Dakota might elect a D senator
We've got to sit down and respectfully talk to each other. It's not about winning. It's about the free exchange of ideas.
@Aaron INSANITY
@ChrisCudmore HERESY!
Linda McMahon lost. (Thank god!)
I know, it's crazy talk isn't it.
Obama has about 90% support in Canada.
Of course he does, compared to the USA you're a bunch of socialists
18:50
@ChrisCudmore Canada's not even a real country. You don't count.
Funnily enough, we ranked #1 for personal liberties in the last Prosperity Study.
(I don't think 2nd Amendment rights were part of their criteria though -- So that might skew the rankings if it's important to you.)
@TheEvilGreebo actually, unbeknownst to me, that seat in ND was held by a retiring D senator
purdy colors
One of my less proud moments from last week:
Did you know - cast iron tubs are heavy?
and one of my prouder moments:
I've never done a neater join
I like the way you speared the wall there.
@ChrisCudmore yeah its a good thing I was slowing the tub down or we would have had a new door
18:57
wallpaper! tear down the wall!!!!!
3
A true hero would have thrown his body in front to protect the wall.
He who removes this tub from the wall shall be the next King!
@ChrisCudmore That WAS me protecting the wall!
@lsiunsuex It's on the plan
so the boss gave me 2, $100 gift cards... buy an SSD and 2nd hard drive adaptor for the macbook pro or... try to find the leak in the roof in the family room and gut the ceiling ? :(
@lsiunsuex HARDWARE! HARDWARE!!!
(the roof will cost more)
it is freaking cold in here
not sure... max 6 sheets drywall - have joint tape, mud, etc... have insulation, vapor barrier... drywall and whatever fixing the leak costs me
19:01
see its that last item...
And disposal. Always a PITA
bagsters are deceptively cheap until you call for pickup
we keep the disposable stuff in the garage and just throw out 2-3 bags a week in the trash - no room to park in the garage anyways and its detached so it doesn't hurt me haha
fine - SSD it is.
I've got a transfer station about a 15 minute drive from my place. $10-$20 bucks for whatever I can stuff in my Outlander.
the transfer station here is free for county (maybe state?) residents
well, I take that back - maybe with a pickup truck and load of debris it might be different
I've just dumped less than a trunkful at a time
19:06
@Aaron I actually still use the transfer station in the county I lived in last year. It's free for household garbage (up to 8 bags)...and it's still very close to my house
We're pretty strict here about what you can throw out. We're still shipping to Michigan.
I've got a green bin for organics, a blue bin for recyclables, both free, and a black bin which we are billed for 3 times a year on our municipal utility bill (water, sewage and garbage).
But, if a put out a load of metal, the freelancers will scoop it up.
19:24
My run to the dump this morning (supposed to be a 1 hour round trip) and stop for gas and shampoo on the way back turned into a 4 hour trip.
First, the truck's battery was dead because it hadn't moved in the past few weeks, and it needs new batteries. That's fine, I don't use it often enough... I can just charge it (if I remember) the night before.
Then, they MOVED THE DUMP.
Like, another 20 miles outside of town.
@KarlKatzke lol that's a good one
Yeah. Total head-desk moment. So I'm out there trying to empty the bed of the pickup truck while listening in on a conference call.
And then on the way back I stop at a gas/grocery for some shampoo and to fill up the beast with more black blood.
And when I go to start it ... nada.
Good to see hard hitting journalism. Apparently Sasha and Malia won't be allowed to date for another 4 years.
This is the news we need to know!
It didn't crank. And the relays clicked, so it had enough juice to... The previous owner had mentioned something about the clutch position sensor, so after tinkering for a while I pulled it out and just bridged the connections with a spare bit of wire ... and BOOM... fired back up.
I'm gonna start a reality TV show about my life.
But the UPS man did drop off my new best friend last night.
angle grinder?
19:29
personal massager?
Dust collector for the angle grinder.
(7" angle grinder)
nice
work well?
Pretty well, but you need a dust trap in between it and the vacuum cleaner or you go through filters really fast.
I'm building one out of a 5 gallon bucket as we speak.
Anyone with 3k of rep think this is worth reopening?

Q: Replacement screws, quantity and type, for LD4088 table top base

mfgI have had an Apex LD4088, 40" and an online forum for Toshiba televisions indicated that there is a "standard" practice (unclear as to whether the standard is for the model, manufacturer, or industry) to use M4X15 screws to attach the pedestal to the stem coming from the base of televisions. In ...

No... it's really consumer electronics.
19:32
No
A good question would be "how do I find replacement screws for this?"
Nah... It's about finding parts. The fact that it's a tv stand is irrelevant.
If it was "How do I measure a screw's thread and pitch in order to find and order replacements?"
... I might vote to reopen.
@ChrisCudmore but his questions aren't about finding replacements
Are M4X15 screws actually an industry standard in securing pedestals to stems, or is it the case that the Toshiba users are referring to a manufacturer standard?
Is there an industry standard for this kind of fastener?
If there is not, what kind of online resource is helpful in tracking down the details on the type of fastener used in a particular product?
Who knows, no, and no.
There ya go. upvote me 300 times for that so I can join the 10k club.
19:34
@Aaron send that to him in a comment and I'm guessing he'll let it go that we didn't reopen
@KarlKatzke Yeah. Me too.
@KarlKatzke I thought the 10k club was a let down, a few more tools, but nothing all that exciting
I just want to be the biggest nerd on the block. The problem is that I don't know enough and there's more people that know more around here these days. :)
that said, you've got a lot of vote worthy stuff out there
And there aren't people who are dumb enough to attempt the projects I'm working on right now themselves.
19:37
There are lots of stupid people, but most of them electrocute themselves before they ask a question on DIY.se

DRIVEBY HUGS TO ALL!
/all-day meetings
/runs away
@Aarthi hugs back at ya
how partially social, and yet anti-social of her
Tell me about it.
That's gotta be an Onion article.
It's gotta be.
