@maple_shaft this comment pretty much sums up the answer to hot water heater pressure issues:
Nope, not convinced, but it will tell you where the problem is. If the temp and pressure are low, it's the valve. If pressure is always above normal, it's the regulator. If pressure climbs too much while heating, it's the expansion tank. — BMitch May 4 at 12:05
@BMitch Yeah I am not about to start fucking with regulators and the like
I am selling the place
mostly as is
I have called electricians, roofers, installed hand rails, fixed peeling paint, I will be damned if I call a plumber
I am sorry that you only have 2% to put down a mortgage and you are poor and running out of space in your apartment, but maybe you should have thought of that before getting pregnant with brat # 3
@maple_shaft one pressure reading won't indicate the cause, you've got three possible issues, so different measurements are needed to narrow it down.
@BMitch go on...
@maple_shaft You could always drop the sale price a bit, and make it their problem.
@Tester101 Nope. They asked me to replace the SRV, thats what they are getting
I was just curious why the thing still drips
13:55
@maple_shaft You say the pressure is low when you first start, but it can climb after the hot water heater runs (water needs to expand somewhere or you'll get higher pressure
Normal pressure after opening a valve and closing it indicates the PRV is working correctly
note to self: don't f' with the live database :(
But if pressure increases after the heater runs, then the expansion tank isn't doing its job
@lsiunsuex Auto-commit fail?
@BMitch Hmm... I thought that pressure tanks get pretty rigorous testing
if pressure stays normal while the heater is running, and the water temp isn't too high (use a mug of hot water and a meat thermometer) then the relief valve is going
working on a backend system - modified live events - used the same variable for both month and minute - screwed up my event dates
13:58
@maple_shaft there can be a blockage, the bladder could have burst, etc
@BMitch Well it generally starts to leak after the water heater has kicked on for a bit
@maple_shaft that can be from temp or pressure, gotta measure it to know which
if it stops after run run some water for a bit, then it's probably pressure related and the expansion tank has failed
14:10
@maple_shaft Pressure could be too high in the expansion tank, or incoming water line.

> Seriously, I've seen QR codes on highway billboard signs as if anyone is going to whip out their smartphone while they're pulling 65.
worse: I've seen them on yardsale type signs.
we put them on the back of our business cards
costs us nothing to do it; if it helps get a few more visits / users...
on a highway - yeah, stupid
on a business card - doesn't hurt
@lsiunsuex makes sense to me. I use them occasionally. Like our zoo has them around sometimes to watch a video of an animal. I actually like them and complain when one is warranted and there isn't one
someone from marketing came by "hows the website coming - do you need anything?" umm... did you not see the big 18px text that said "NEED MORE CONTENT HERE" ? in red no less
@lsiunsuex Ha allofmyfeelbro.jpg
I am convinced that as a developer, you must know how to be a programmer, architect, designer, QA, Manager, Product Designer, Subject Matter Expert, Power User, Systems Administrator, Build Engineer, and DBA all in one
i dont even care that 18 hours across friday and saturday will be spent driving in a car - as long as i'm out of the office, thats vacation enough
@maple_shaft i exemplify that statement
15:07
@lsiunsuex no. people don't read.
@maple_shaft yes.
+ side - boss drives a bmw m3 so if we take turns driving, atleast i'll have a bit of fun
@lsiunsuex that sounds like fun. and 18 hours of driving actually is my idea of a vacation (we typically put in >3000 mi around Christmas)
we drove 20 hours each way in a 30 foot penski truck last year to open a office; nice to drive through 8 states, shitty at night, uncomfortable otherwise (really? no cruise control? and i drive with both feet so both feet were tired) - would love to do it again in a regular car and actually enjoy it.
this weekend is 9 hours into chicago with my startup boss - sucks wasting day job vacation time on side project work, but do what u gatta do
@lsiunsuex yeah it does.
15:24
@lsiunsuex Driving with both feet is a bad idea. It causes heat on the brakes.
I drive with both feet, but I'm a three-pedal driver.
who said anything about applying the break and gas at the same time? i hover over the break so my reaction time is faster :)
@ChrisCudmore this makes me miss my little saturn :(
I'm driving a Mitsubishi Outlander, and my wife has a Mini. Both stick. Love driving the Mini. It's got some serious guts for a small car.
@lsiunsuex If you're driving fast enough for that to make a difference, SLOW DOWN!
@ChrisCudmore I can imagine, those look fun to drive
15:28
i drive fast but not out of control - i am actually a really safe driver
I think the DMV should make these things a mandatory part of the license renewal process.
@Tester101 I've been hesitant to get one...as much as they claim it won't raise my premiums if I don't drive safely I'm hesitant to believe them...
Sure you drive fine when somebody is sitting next to you judging you, but how do you do when you're alone?
@waxeagle I agree.
@Tester101 add to this the fact that I drive 50+ mi/day just to daycare then work back to daycare and home, I'm not inclined to inform my insurance company of my driving habits
@waxeagle You mean you LIED to your insurance company about how many miles you typically drive!?
15:44
@Tester101 they didn't ask.
or if they did I wasn't driving that when I got my policy...
I can't remember which
@waxeagle I don't think I'd trust them either, look at all the data available to them.
OBD-II PIDs (On-board diagnostics Parameter IDs) are codes used to request data from a vehicle, used as a diagnostic tool. SAE standard J/1979 defines many PIDs, but manufacturers also define many more PIDs specific to their vehicles. All light duty vehicles (e.g. less than 8,500 pounds) sold in North America since 1996, as well as medium duty vehicles (e.g. 8,500-14,000 pounds) beginning in 2005, and heavy duty vehicles (e.g. greater than 14,000 pounds) beginning in 2010, are required to support OBD-II diagnostics, using a standardized data link connector, and a subset of the SAE J/1979 ...
blah - people drive the speed limit and get into accidents all the time
i'm a calculating driver - always looking for traffic up ahead, always aware of how close people are to me on all sides, not just in the front - never move without throwing a single and always drive for the conditions
@Tester101 that's a lot of data. and way more than just "how fast are you going, how hard do you brake/accel"
when its raining, you'll find me 5 under the limit - give me a nice sunny day and gtf out of my way
Could you imagine what would happen if health insurance companies could access this much data about your health in real time? Your premium would go up every time you ate a big mac.
15:57
conversely - could they save more lives if they had that much information cause they'd know whats wrong earlier and could treat it sooner
a dead customer is not a paying customer - keep them alive - collect money longer
@lsiunsuex Maybe if the doctors had access to the data, but I'm talking about insurance companies.
@lsiunsuex They don't care if you die. two more of you will be born in your place.
@Tester101 For profit healthcare FTW
@Tester101 they don't have this much data or the kind of collection power progressive does. But they are doing things like this with "peak health" type programs or fitness software
they are trying to get better data on what you do and when you do it, and how that affects your overall health. And in that way they can price insurance based on how you behave instead of generally
@waxeagle Except of course they prove time and time again that they aren't willing to pay for things like this, they just encourage their clients to incorporate wellness programs and voluntarily give them data in exchange for not spiking their rates by 600% next year
Insurance Companies = Elephant in the Room
Legislators feeding at their pig trough, paid for.
Vampire Economy at its best
@maple_shaft yep. (well they eat the cost by not raising premiums, but that's really only kicking the ball down the road, not fixing the problems).
In our case my company is self insured so we pay our own costs. And they just announced they are raising our rates for the first time in at least 10 years
16:08
@waxeagle Lucky you. Insurance company profiteering, abhorrent administrative waste and absurdly overpriced pharmaceuticals with a captive market (by law) ensure that health care costs will continue to rise to unmanageable levels
I have to get my wifes meds from a pharmacy in Canada, because insurance refuses to pay for it and it is $7k per 6 month dose
it is only $600 in Canada
You guys may have overpriced real estate near where jobs are, but at least you don't have to worry about a chronic condition bankrupting you
Can't wait for Geico to enter the health insurance market. Save 15% on health insurance? Yes, please.
@Tester101 are you self employed or ?
@lsiunsuex No.
@maple_shaft wowz
17:16
YES! http://screenrant.com/disney-bought-lucasfilm-star-wars-pros-cons/ - Speaking of dreaming - Princess Leia is now officially part of the Disney Princesses Collection, which means there will be cute women dressed as Slave Leia standing at the character meet and greet stations throughout Disney theme parks posing for pictures.

How could that possibly be a bad thing?

CREEP ALERT: There will undoubtedly be a long line of single, nerdy men monopolizing the line. It's probably best to have the children avoid this one. finally have reason to goto disney world / land
@lsiunsuex lol
18:12
is that snow?
No, I think that's mud/sand ... Is that Laguardia or JFK?
Might even still be water.
LGA
Picture taken from jetblue's terminal:
i see nothing wrong with that picture - lets get some planes that land on water and its fine
@KarlKatzke Has anybody used the headline "Airport becomes sea port." yet?
LOL ... dunno. I'm actually having to work today (bastards) so I haven't been as up on the disaster porn^H^H^H^Hnews as I want to be.
no, cause Airport is trademarked 2012, Apple Inc.
followed by the soon to be released Seaport, trademarked 2012, Microsoft Corp.
@lsiunsuex Would that be iPort?
Airport ?
18:35
Apple should just change it's name to iApple.
What a creative marketing team they have.
no worse then metro, i mean, windows 8 new layout, i mean, live tiles, er um... a whole bunch of boxes with words and images on them that when clicked, execute a set of commands
I like that Microsoft scaled down the original surface, into a handheld version
i wanna see how much Surface Pro costs
if its < 1k, i'll be in the market
the RT seams too limiting and really has not received rave reviews - first version - i get it, but i already have 2 ipads
curious what kind of laptops they sell at the microsoft store
@lsiunsuex pretty wide swath of PC brands (Asus, Lenovo, Dell, Acer Sony)
looks like mostly laptops though
general price range?
are we talking shit $300 dell inspiron's or 2k+ thinkpads?
18:50
@lsiunsuex 400-1500?
interesting
@lsiunsuex the online store looks like it caters to the home user market, not the business user
top model is a hybrid ssd/magnet HP
touchscreen model
will wait for the surface pro price
dont need another pc laptop - have to many
a pc tablet with a real processor - ok - so long as the price is right
19:08
hang on, does an arm windows port mean we might be able to port Windows to the Pi? that would be something
next question: why?
@Aaron greater accessibility.
we tried windows 8 on a dell optiplex here with a dell touch screen with about a 1 inch bezzel around it - it was garbage - u couldn't trigger the edge swipes, shit like that
any port of RT to a product not designed to run it - without proper drivers being developed to deal with touch - is gonna be crap
@lsiunsuex good point, would need good touch support which is a monitor thing...
possible for sure i think - android was ported to that HP tablet - but android is "open source" and the majority was re-written
now imagine not being able to re-write the os or even see how it works, and then to develop a touch driver for it
19:15
@lsiunsuex sounds like repeatedly running into a concrete wall
completely off subject, the new nest supports aux heat pump systems, I might have to look into it now
need breads inovation - someone wants it bad enough, someone will do it - but it wont be stable to the point of being used in production
i like nest
but after the nightmare i had with my furnace installer - f' it. i'm sticking with my lennox thermostat
nest is ok, but I prefer to do it myself, so I have the z-wave thermostat waiting for a more mature z-wave implentation
@lsiunsuex I want to go to programables... and I need something that supports an aux heatpump system...
last I looked options are fairly limited
The trane doc page says:
heat pump with compressor and aux
@Aaron looking now
19:23
nevermind - myicomfort.com no firmware update - need a new device
f'ing basterds - now i'll get a Nest
the other issue is that no matter what I buy I need 2 :(
you have 2 independent systems?
@Aaron yep
Fortunately the #weather is nicer here than on the #EastCoast, but EVERYONE'S weather is nicer than that!
Jason Stiff, hashtag enthusiast and shit-talking meteorologist for KOB-TV, Albuquerque, NM.
19:31
That's pretty hilarious. I like that guy.
a whole bunch of these at
Rick Dickert? Oh my god, why would you do that to your child?!
@KarlKatzke there is no hope. The only real hope is to not reproduce. Or legally change your name.
I mean, seriously, could you imagine what that kid went through in middle school?
yeah, going through any school with the name Mario was just a peach
now when people make fun of my name, i remote into their PC and install kiddy porn on it
19:36
@lsiunsuex were you often asked to deal with plumbing issues?
@lsiunsuex Did you lay pipe on your prom date?
Sorry, that was probably inappropriate, but I'll let it stand. I'm in a sarcastic/pithy/stabby mood about work today.
*due to work today
prom date was a friend
so no, u perverted f'
:)
later boys - off to a halloween party (say it and i'll find and kill u)
(best part is at about :50)
Ok, that was pretty funny/classy.
19:43
@KarlKatzke I don't have sound, but it works as a silent film
Yeah, you don't need sound.
