That's my friend's house. See that the posts are resting on the porch railing.
See also that they're no longer vertical.
Same roof - this beam is cantilevered 6 feet!

@JayBazuzi Simple fix... Just add signs, "Do not lean on railing!".
"Hard hat area".
"No trespassing".
@JayBazuzi "Structure? Never heard of it."
The more I think about it, the less this sign makes sense. If you're watching for falling debris, you'll be looking up. So the debris will smack you right in the face.
Maybe you're supposed to watch debris fall on someone else's head, and preferably take a photo

@BMitch Could this question be useful if it was more general?

Q: Should I replace Kenmore vacuum filter?

user67275I'm using Kenmore upright vacuum Model : #40139000 (Please google this model number if necessary. I can include only two hyperlinks) Since there was thick layer of dirts on the filter, it has not worked very well. But after tearing off and knocking off the dirt, it seems to work better than bef...

"Can replacing a vacuum filter increase the performance more than simply cleaning the filter?"
@Tester101 wouldn't it still be off topic?
The question would then be less about small appliances, and more about tools (especially if it was about shopvacs or dust collection systems).
@waxeagle Maybe, not sure if we handle tool maintenance and repair?
@Tester101 i dunno, I'm pretty new around this part of the stack. I'd figure tool maintenance/repair is well within your scope.
@waxeagle While looking through Meta to see if we've decided if tool maintenance is on topic, I came across this...

Q: Should general questions on lawn maintenance be considered on topic?

Jeff WidmerOver the past 2 days there have been several questions involving general lawn maintenance: Bermuda grass is invading my Kentucky Blue? Any solutions that don’t involve Roundup? What is the best kind of grass/seed for a completely shaded lawn? that as defined in "Should we allow questions ...

Can I safely add an answer, that these types of questions should be sent to gardening.stackexchange.com
@Tester101 yes
13:52
Could the questions referenced in the post be migrated too, or would they be dups?
@Tester101 I don't think they're dupes
@waxeagle OK. I'll do a bit of research, and possibly migrate them later. Thanks.
@Tester101 We were holding off on a blanket migration to gardening:

Q: Gardening and Landscaping is in beta

BMitchThe gardening and landscaping site is now in beta. Is it appropriate to start migrating a bunch of our slightly off topic questions over there? If so, do the mods want a bunch of flags to deal with, or will they just go through the tags like lawn and grass?

@BMitch 10-4
how do you become a moderator ? or are moderators employees of stack exchange?
14:04
@lsiunsuex we get elected. Elections are held somewhat at random
(bottom of the about page)
@lsiunsuex another way is to catch on with a beta and get appointed as a temporary moderator (that's what I did)
@lsiunsuex unfortunately we do not get paid
@BMitch ~once a year as needed
@Tester101 Hmm, looks like the "hold off on the migration" decision was reversed a while after my question

Q: Questions that should be migrated to Gardening and Landscaping.

ChrisFNow that Gardening and Landscaping is in beta and going quite well any question that fits their site better should really be migrated. Normally questions aren't migrated to beta sites but if they'd only be closed as off topic here then I think it's worth it. Firstly it'll help keep our site on t...

@BMitch So if a question has been closed, it's OK to migrate? But we shouldn't migrate active questions?
14:13
@waxeagle Unless you count various stickers and pencils as payment, but they give those to all active users, not just the mods.
@BMitch xactly
@Tester101 If they want the question, it could always be reopened, worth chatting with the gardening mods about specific cases
@BMitch I'm hear pretty much all the time :)
hmm, flaky cable modem has me feeling less chatty, time for some fresh air and a trip to the store for a new modem, have a good one folks
@waxeagle oops, I said that without checking who the gardening mods are
@BMitch :)

@aarthi Nice Brony Avatar!
@Aarthi I like the new gravatar!
Aww, thanks guys!
@ChrisCudmore my god, it IS purple what the smuck
Renovations are Magic!
16:09
It's closed cell spray foam insulation.
Too easy!
I've handed out 4 pencils to contractors. Hopefully they'll come visit us.

moste excellente
@Tester101 you're going to get sommat speshul from me soonish
once the thing finishes being made.
Is it Cake?
negative. remember: the cake is a lie
Nah. I finished that game. There was cake at the end.
16:12
:D
There were refreshments and grief counselling.

currently watching a commercial construction site. Admiring the fact that the workers are cutting and working with aluminum without bleeding profusely (Like I would)..
Ha. Sometimes the pros get it right.
Unlike @BMitch's crew...
@Aarthi lol, I thought someone got messed up bad over at the construction site yesterday when I saw 4 or 5 emergency vehicles come flying through with their sirens blazing. After tuning into the scanner, all I heard was that a seeing eye dog got caught in an escalator at the adjacent metro station (poor doggie).
Looks like the folks at Parenting, have asked every conceivable parenting question.

Not as many as one might think, eh?
If you have kids (or are going to have kids), go ask some questions!
You know, I don't think so. Every question is subjective.
I just let my boys fight it out.
Here they are post-fight.
I don't have kids, so I know it all already.

Nothing will ever make you feel less competent.
But, when you can put them to work, it's helpful:
17:27
They need more questions about older kids.
@Aarthi I'm no help there my oldest is only 4 next month :|
kindergarten questions! excellent. they need those too
@Aarthi I've got 2 years until kindergarden &*)%^$^%& age limits
Question: When beating my child, should I use a birch rod or an oaken cane?
Does it change if the cane is an antique?
@waxeagle all i heard was, "my kid is smart and ready for kindergarten but the district won't let him in early. should I put him in a private school first and then transfer him?"
17:30
@Aarthi lol my 3 yr old would get his ass kicked in kindergarden right now...another year maybe...his daycare told me they were moving him up into the pre-k class this fall though so that helps
d'aww
@Aarthi he's going to start pre-k at a public school next year if we can get him in. Hopefully 10 minutes in the class room there convinces them he needs to be moved up
don't hold your breath, man. :P
@Aarthi I'm not
good call

We were pretty laid back about early education. A bit of socialization was important, but no need to push them.
But, when you have twins, there's built in friends.
@ChrisCudmore too true. I have twin sisters
I have twin sons.
One of them was enthusiastic about learning to read; the other resists it.
So the first reads for the second.
my mother's a twin, actually.
twins...everywhere
17:37
seriously.
@JayBazuzi I have exactly the same situation. One is on level three readers, the other doesn't give a damn.
But they haven't started grade 1 yet, so I'm not worried.
What was impressive is we put them in French immersion, so no one taught him how to read in English
Wait... How did he build hands, without hands?
same way this guy lit a match with no limbs:
Prince Randian or Prince Rardion (ca. 1871 – December 19, 1934), also known as The Snake Man, The Living Torso, The Human Caterpillar and a variety of other names was a famous limbless sideshow performer of the early 1900s, best known for his ability to roll cigarettes with his lips. He was reportedly brought to the United States by P.T. Barnum in 1889 and was a popular carnival and circus attraction for 45 years. Prince Randian can be seen in the 1932 film Freaks. Personal life Randian (whose birth name is unknown) was born with no arms or legs in Demerara, British Guiana. He was ...
And why is he fishing with explosives? Don't they have sticks and string in China?
But bomb fishing is much more fun!
17:51
He should have watched Sesame Street.
@ChrisCudmore I'd have to agree. Fishing with explosives is a time honored red neck tradition
also makes you a gold certified darwin award candidate
that second picture in that article is really disturbing me
heh. Didn't notice that before...
@Tester101 I was worried that Bert was holding some explosives in that preview pic
Make sure you ground your work.
@ChrisCudmore looks grounded to me
18:02
@ChrisCudmore That looks like a shower. Everything is grounded in a shower, so there's no problem running electrical in there.
@BMitch You are a bad, bad, person.
18:23
That's the best fix I've seen in years.
Wish I had seen that earlier. Would have saved a lot of awkward fishing and drywall repair.
