hello DIY chat! :D

Hi @AarthiDevanathan. Looks like I missed all the fun yesterday.

@SteveJackson apparently. shame upon ye

Then my verse I dishonor, my pictures despise, my person degrade and my temper chastise; and the pen is my terror, the pencil my shame; and my talents I bury, and dead is my fame.
I was firefighting some code that looked alot like @Karl's wiring picture

I RETURN
@SteveJackson I didn't realize that I released any of my code. Doh.
@BMitch - this is the special sort of tangled you get on a twelve year old code base with lots of contractor turnover. I'd be impressed if any one person could pull it off!
@SteveJackson Ugh, in that case, you have my sympathies. Whenever I see that, I cry for a bit, add my own piece of spaghetti to the mix, and pray I never have to see it again.
Pro tip: Never show any competency at untangling a rat's nest, you'll never get away from it.
dear god, what horror

Oops sorry. We should have goggles at the door :)

Q: Truss timber size

PeteMy roof truss timbers are 38mm x 72mm, 600mm centres, 6m span. Whats that in good old inches? Seems a little skimpy, is this normal for a modern house? I am trying to do a rough dead load calculation. All the information I can find is on 4"x2". Mine are more like 1 3/4" x 3". Think I read that 4"...

17:59
Are my truss timbers sized correctly?
@AarthiDevanathan: Maybe something like "Are 38mmx72mm roof trusses sufficient for a 6m span?"
There are some grammar improvements to be made in the question too...
would you be so kind, niall? as a 10k+ user....
@AarthiDevanathan Want me to do the title too?
18:04
yes please!
Ta-dah!
@NiallC A+ thank you so much
could you hammer at this one too?

Q: Alternative to drop ceiling in basement that doesn't look like a drop ceiling, but is accessible still

Warren PAre there any ways of installing a basement ceiling that is seamless and does not look like a drop ceiling, but which can still be somehow disassembled? Alternatively, are there more subtle forms of drop ceiling technology available? My subjective opinion is that drop ceilings look like crap. B...

19:08
@AarthiDevanathan and others: How does this sound: Is there a more attractive alternative to a drop ceiling that allows easy access to the space above it?
19:27
"Is than an attractive alternative to a drop ceiling that allows easy access to the attic above?"
It's not an attic though, it's a basement ceiling so it would be floor joists
oh.
then yours should be fine :)
