@JoePhilllips most circular saws have a fence/guide that you should be able to use
01:09
hrm.... perhaps
I also have a hand planer that might be useful. Id ont know how to use it though

My circular saw doesnt have a fence/guide

@JoePhilllips If you had 2 2x4's, you'd be in business.
@JoePhilllips Are you cross cutting the 2x4 (across the width 3.5"), or rip cutting (along the length 8')?
Looks like the center "warming" burner on this range is 120V.
@Tester101 Rip cutting along the 8' ... I have a 5' straight edge but I'm not sure how to stretch that to 8' otherwise I'd just use that
If you could keep the saw and straight edge stationary, and move the wood instead. You'd be all set.
13:02
Indeed... wasn't sure how to accomplish that
13:26
If you have a really steady hand, you could probably do it free hand. There's usually a little notch in the circular saw base, which corresponds to where the blade will cut.
Mark a line on the 2x4, and keep the line in the notch as you cut

Q: How can I patch a rotting wood door?

mateoc15I have a small rotting spot at the bottom of my back door and it's almost to the point where I could put my finger through it. I don't have the cash to replace the door right now, but what would you suggest I patch it with before painting it? I have seen interior/exterior wood filler by Elmer's...

Today is no punctuation day where all paragraphs will be written in such a way that no punctuation shall be used

So the fence between us and the neighbor is most likely several feet into our property line... options?
@Aaron are you talking about removing it?
or is their fence?
18:00
well we want to get it replaced since it's kind of in shoddy shape.. but the problem is that they have a second fence on their side that has a gate in it that would actually be on our property
you guys friendly? or not?
yeah pretty much
@Aaron shouldn't be something a conversation can't fix

Project update Thursday?
Is that just what it sounds like?
@BigHomie It's a chat session where people talk about pretty much anything, their DIY projects included. Previous ones are here: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/info/111/…
It's in a slump now, but it used to be pretty active
(In fact, there were more people in this room earlier. I guess everyone's avoiding it these days)
Speaking of...
Welcome to this week's Project Update Thursday
This is speed PUT: 15 minutes before I close up, so speak up if you have any updates
Well, planning my Eletrical Upgrade right now, 20 Amp circuit for a workshop in the basement, upgrading the garage from a single 15A circuit to a 60A subpanel, probably two branch circuits for starters, 1 20A for air compressor and 1 15A for garage door opener and lights
Hopefully by next week I'll have finished the basement wiring and have at least half a trench dug
19:12
@BigHomie Are you upgrading the service as well, or do you have enough spare capacity for all that extra stuff?
@NiallC. Painted the first coat on my living room this week,
@waxeagle Doesn't count until you've gone through three colors and then settle for the last one because you're tired of painting. :P
@NiallC. I should have enough, I only have 100A service but the dryer is gas so that saves some juice, the only load being added right now is my Air Compressor, which is what started this whole garage upgrade fiasco, and it's only a 15A
My gas utility did some work on my gas line on Tuesday, and inspected my furnace and water heater. The T&P discharge tube on the heater has to be replaced, so my PU this T is that I bought a new one. Stay tuned for next week's episode, where I install it
@NiallC. you should see our hallway, there are half a dozen tester colors on the wall in there. We finally settled on a color for the living and a color for the hall, then went to get the living room, started slapping the paint on and realized it wasn't the color we asked for :(
19:26
@waxeagle "Not the color you asked for" or "not the color you expected when it's covering a whole room, not just a little patch" :)
@NiallC. not the color we asked for. Not sure what happened, the tester was a different finish, can't decide whether to live with the mistint or take back the other gallon
(we don't mind the color we got, but it wasn't what we were going for and may not match the hall color we picked
20:06
alright, my first PUT!
Can't wait til' the next one! Hopefully I make some progress, this is certainly a motivator
I guess that's it... apply a handful of stars to make it look interesting in the transcript...
Thanks for joining us for this week's Project Update Thursday
