Can't flag comments as spam?
Hover over the flag on a comment, and it says...
But when you click through, the dialog has no spam choice.
If you mark Other, you have to enter at least 6 characters. So "SPAM" is not acceptable.

Q: What can be done to handle spam comments quickly?

Anders UPAs I read this question I noticed two comments by a user, consisting only of a link to php-pages on a site that did not seem in anyway related to the question. I flagged them as Other and stated why, but given the priority that spam flags are generally given, this seems like a loophole as the co...

hey @Tester101 do you know if you day job is hiring any php programmers ? kinda need a job...
Not currently. Sorry.
where's @ChrisCudmore no problems driving into toronto if need be haha
@lsiunsuex You did a good job on your patio, you could make a name for yourself in the landscaping world.
Although you'd probably have to do plowing in the winter, and I don't think they make plows that fit a Prius.
yeah but i'm no pro - non structural brick work is fun and all but it's definately sh*t work - not to put down those people (grandpa was a brick layer)
no, no plows for the prius (i've looked)
13:36
@lsiunsuex I hear ya. Sitting at a desk requires less Advil.
i could build pizza ovens - a dentist friend still wants me to do his - no idea on the laws about fire enclosures though. mine is mine. someone else's - now i'm liable
Agreed. I used to do work for others, but not anymore. Now that I've got stuff to lose, I don't want anybody's lawyer trying to take my stuff.
exactly - its fun when your in your teens / 20s. its a great workout. but when someone can sue you and possibly loose your house / job... yeah, no, not really fun anymore.
then, again. if i become desperate - maybe... who knew unemployment only lasted 6 months in NY ? :(

@lsiunsuex We're a .net shop.
i have some c# experience
@lsiunsuex I'll let you know when I move on, and you can have my job.
trying to pick a new programming language to add to your repertoire is like playing the lottery everyday for the next 6 months hoping that the language (numbers) you chose will pay out in the end
C# and Java are similar enough that you'd be able to pick up the other quickly.
Python or Ruby
looking at learning scala / play - did some reading last night / this morning. doesn't look to difficult - i'll re-write ignitedds.com in it to learn...
a company in atlanta is paying $80-95 / hour for titanium developers. all expenses paid. waiting to hear back from them. I can't help but think these recruiters have no idea what their looking for. Titanium is 100% based on javascript, which i have tons of experience with. just a matter of learning the APIs specific to titanium

Hi guys, I"""MMMMMM back!! lol
2
so I went and knocked on the garage ceiling, and it is solid
like cinderblock/concrete solid
for some reason I couldn't log in. must have forgot the secret handshake
I have no idea what it is
@shirlockhomes Holy @#$!, WELCOME BACK!
Hi there BMitch, missed you guys
19:51
hola @shirlockhomes
We've been wondering about you, there was a conspiracy theory since Aarthi resigned around the same time you disappeared.
Hi to both of you renegades!
we ran away together
19:51
Anyone have any more guesses as to what my garage ceiling is, and what the best way is to get insulation on there so the room above isn't as cold?
Thought the Black Pearl had a copilot.
LOLOL
got suckered into house building again, got a bit busy
Happens to the best of us, in this case quite literally the best of us.
what are looking at Aaron?
@Aaron I'd try drilling a small inspection hole
19:53
well thank you BMitch. humble here, trying to retire
AArthi is gone? too abd she was a peach
yeah I guess... although I think actually there is a hole already where the cable goes through
I wonder if I can look at the sides at all
@shirlockhomes She resigned a long time ago, didn't get along well with some of the more technical nerds. Very sad since she was so awesome at her job.
Yes too bad, she had a great report with the groups. hope she is doing well
we did have a great flirt thing going on. keep you guys guessing. LOL
well Aaron, what have you got yourself into there?
Ohh, I should add her on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/adevanat
I have her on Google+, but haven't chatted with her in months
Looks like a got a couple of months slack time to play with the boys on here. then back to work. Got another house starting in late March
20:02
This weather is a mess to be working in, thank goodness I have a desk job. Good time to take a few months off.
I'm way too old to work outdoors in the Maine winters. LOL. sitting by the fire and drinking beer. lol
and it has been way too cold around here
keep asking myself why I'm not in florida like last winter. May go soon, just to get out of here!!!!
If I can get my motovation up, I may go look at some of the questions. LOL. Have there been any quality questions lately? They were getting pretty lame when I took a vacation for the site.
To me they seem to be pretty lame as well, I think all the good stuff has already been asked, and all the good answers have already been given by yourself.
Hey, I just thought of a great joke to play on Tester. Tell him you chatted with me and Aarthi and I ran away together and got married!!!!! killer prank
tell him we took the Black Pearl down the inland waterway and live in Key West! OMG.... too funny
Sadly, I can't hide you from him now, he can see everything you've said in here
Speaking of lame questions, this one got me to go O_o
Curses, foiled again!

Q: If neutral carries current back to the breaker panel, why doesn't it need to be connected to a switch?

user19512I've got some limited field experience as an electrical helper, but no real classroom experience yet. (saving up for school) I am of the understanding that the neutral wire carries electricity back to a breaker panel. I generally wire switches, as instructed, as follows: However, this doesn'...

The part where they asked about current going back to the breaker when the switch was in the off position had me very worried about people working on electrical wiring.
A switch is an interuptor. you only need to break the source and current stops. Sometimes in industrial situations they use a double pole switch to break both the hot and nutral
Yup, but the OP was asking how current could get back to the breaker when the switch was in the off position. They seem to not grasp the interrupter part of the switch's duties.
Actually AC current is going back and forth 60 times a second, both directions. voltage source is from the breaker.
All electrical potential (voltage) seeks ground (neutral). so it appears that current always runs to ground. the breaker is seeing the net current flow, doesn't care what direction
you would have to see it on an ocilloscope to see the sine wave of the source voltage.
you are right, if the switch is off, there should be no current passing through the breaker
and no current to ground
thus, you can read the line voltage across an ope switch
When I saw the question I was scratching my head wondering why they would ask the question, like the chewbacca defense, it didn't make any sense.
Should migrate to Electrical Engineering in revenge for all the crap they send here.
Hi @shirlockhomes. Glad to see you're back!
20:27
Hi Niall. you been good? lol
actually, tester gave him a decent answer. it is super basic
I think the 240VAC split may have been way over the questioner's head. LOL
think I'll go visit the site. nice to be back for awhile. chat soon.

Q: What is the best way to cut receptacle holes when hanging drywall?

dslakeI will be installing drywall in a 10x10 room this weekend, walls only. I'm planning to use the longer sheets so there is only a single horizontal seam on each wall and install the top sheet first, flush against the existing ceiling. My question is, what is the best/easiest (not usually the same...
