whats up @Tester101
14:53
I just removed from several questions.
@bmitch @tester101 Either of you awake?
15:17
@lsiunsuex Nothing
@NiallC. No
@Tester101 Can I have a word in private (i.e. another chat room)?
TL or a private room, your choice
15:42
hey @Aaron
15:54
@lsiunsuex hola
do you know of any means (jquery, php, html, whatever) to program in a way thats state driven?
every single page of my site has something (form, button, div) that needs to be shown or hidden based on if the user is logged in or not and i'm getting sick of having 20+ if statements on the page all checking the session variables
Sounds like a homework/interview question.

Q: What types of electrical outlets are found in a typical home in the USA?

RedGrittyBrickI do not live in the USA. If I were to buy a home in the USA, what are the key facts I should know about USA household electrical supply at outlets in homes? E.g. when buying a clothes dryer or other appliances. I'm asking this question for a couple of reasons Diagrams like this suggest that U...

On this Q, are there really a lot of appliances with 120V @ 20A plugs? I'm not familiar with a lot of them
@lsiunsuex something like this of any use? php.net/manual/en/function.session-start.php ?
@Aaron toaster ovens IIRC
@Aaron No. But 20A receptacles get installed sometimes, especially in kitchens and baths where 20A circuits are required.
15:58
don't know if that count as a lot but that's one I'm aware of
@waxeagle I had a couple of countertop ones (smaller ones I suppose) but they didn't have a sideways blade
that question looks like way over kill. unless an appliance (washer machine or dryer) is electric, there are only 2 plugs to worry about - grounded or not grounded
I wasn't happy with how quick an answer was accepted. I was still typing :(
@Aaron thats to start or resume a session. which is fine; looking more for a way to show or hide elements based on session state while avoiding all the if statements
twist locks are common in server rooms where you dont want to trip over a power cable and unplug a server by accident !
then again, if a power cable is exposed to the point of you tripping over it, you deserve to have the server go down on you
@lsiunsuex dryer or oven, washers are all 5-15 as far as I know

stuff that happens during the day when normal people are at day jobs
@lsiunsuex Are you saying construction workers are not "normal people", and the work they do is not a "job"?
no not at all; maybe i typed it wrong; i was implying this whole other world that happens when your stuck in a cubicle and otherwise would be oblivious to it happening
Just don't try and watch TV during the day. I think people started working during the day, because the TV programming was so terrible.
imdb.com/title/tt0112112/?ref_=sr_1 been watching that on AMC lately when i'm not working; basically a cross between Bay Watch and Cops on bicycles. re: garbage
in the 10 or so episodes i've watched now i dont think i've seen a single cop jump in a car to chase a bad guy
"Sexy bicycle cops" ?
@lsiunsuex 'buying alaska' was also kind of interesting to watch, some really crazy places out there
@lsiunsuex oh, I know about the construction stuff, I usu work from home 2-3 days /week, and they've been putting in a sidewalk/redoing the water+sewer on our road for the past 9 months
16:21
oh yeah - and old people that don't have jobs and drive around aimlessly during the day for their coffee drive like crap
@lsiunsuex They also walk really slowly and block the entire aisle at the supermarket.
16:39
wonder how many cars are used to test for safety; 20 ? 100 ?
can they modify the design and go back for a re-test if they dont like the score before going into production?
@lsiunsuex my guess is that they only crash one for the intial test

Q: Devices that can slowly lower and raise 200 pounds ~2 feet?

prolink007What are some devices that could slowly lower and raise roughly 200 pounds roughly 2 feet? I have been looking at hydraulic equipment, but they are all designed for tons and i do not need the ability to lift that much. I would like the device to be small, lightweight and self sustaining. I do no...

@stackexchange - feature request: ability to star something twice please.
@lsiunsuex There, I added your feature for you, now it has 2 stars. :)
YEY!!
@NiallC. @tester101 Let me know if there's anything unresolved. I'm not going to try to look back through several hours of TL logs. :)
@BMitch I think it's resolved now.

Q: New metatag for out-of-the-box ideas or required answers

DMooreSo a user wants to use a tool/material/whatever in a very odd way or has a task that requires something out of the norm. I thought it would be good to categorize these. I had used "weird-ideas" but I guess it wasn't liked. So maybe "out-of-the-box" or "unconventional" or something else? If no...

I figured that was it, thanks.
ok, let's kick this thing off...
Welcome to Project Update Thursday
I got nothing this week, work and play sucked up all my time so no progress on the kitchen. I'll get my countertops measured soon.
Looks like everyone else is doing the same. TTFN. I'll check back in later.
