@HerrBag All the answers on that question were deleted, most were comments getting converted, and Jacob deleted his after you pointed out the potential issues with it.
@HerrBag Jacob's comment to you before deleting it: "On point as always -- definitely the fault of my misreading the question and having gas-fired central heating (ala standard gas/blower central heat) in mind rather than radiator/boiler heating"

Q: Should I worry about plaster walls in bathroom?

user13941Just moved the walls in house are plaster. I was told the owners never took a shower due to worry over walls. There is tile all over the walls? I want to know due I need to worry about using the shower?

I'm wondering how they moved the plaster walls?
punctuation can make some home improvement tasks much easier.
11:48
try dealing with a wooden window in the shower, then we can talk about water hitting areas not ment to be water logged
12:13
Is this type of question on topic?

Q: Does a swing-slide frameless glass door mechanism exist?

Robert KoritnikI would like to have glass around my square-ish shower (90cm × 100cm) in bathroom corner. It should only consist of two pieces: the fixed wall (100cm wide) door (90cm) But instead of swinging doors opening inwards/outwards I'd like doors to swing-slide open inwards. Looking from top down doo...

I figured it's a shopping question, just finished downvoting and commenting on it.
It could be reworded to "how can I construct such a door" and be on topic
"I was told that the owners never took a shower, due to worry over the walls.". Next question: "How do I remove the stank of the previous owners?".

anyone ever changed the fan on their AC condenser?
@waxeagle motor, fan, or both?
@Tester101 likely just the motor, fan looks to be in OK shape
looks like the recommended replacement needs a different run cap too
12:23
It's typically not that difficult, depending on the unit (and if you can acquire a replacement motor).
@Tester101 thankfully the internet seems to have them fairly widely available.
and for a reasonable price
Make sure you label all the wires as you remove them, and take your time.
@Tester101 got it.
There should be a schematic inside the unit, with the instruction manual, or found online. Make sure you have one before you start.
Oh... And don't forget to discharge the capacitors, before you go poking around.
Turn off the breaker, pull the serviceman switch, open unit, discharge caps.
@Tester101 yep, I've found it. It's on the inside panel of the unit. We've been having problems with the unit since before we left town. I went out the other night and found that the main power cable had some exposed wiring. Fixed that, but it still isn't running and the motor is quite hot so it seems like it's getting power.
12:30
Some of this information might be helpful.

A: Why is my air conditioner tripping the circuit breaker?

Tester101Disconnect the power Start by turning off the breaker, and pulling the serviceman disconnect, which will typically look something like this. This will insure no electricity is flowing to the condenser unit while you're working. Open the unit Next you'll want to disassemble the unit, to all...

If you have to replace the compressor, call a service technician. When you have to mess with the refrigerant, it's time to call in the pros.
Unless you have the knowledge, and tools to do the job. Then have at it.
@Tester101 yep. Not going there.
12:50
@waxeagle Is the motor locked up, or can you spin it by hand?
@Tester101 not sure yet. Gonna take the grate off tonight and try it
Depending on the age of the unit, it might be worth it to replace the whole thing. Newer models may be a bit more efficient, which can save money long term.
what kind of lifespan should those units have?
10 - 20 years
depending on the manufacturer, when it was made, usage, climate, and various other factors.
That's a big range.
13:02
@Tester101 k, these are only 7 years old...
not really ready to EOL them yet, specially if I can fix it for ~$80
@ChrisCudmore There are a lot of variables.
13:26
I'm going to invite Gordon Ramsay to dinner. I'll parade covered serving trays into the dining room. But just before I uncover them, I'm going to take a five minute break. When I come back, I'll start the parade all over again just in case he forgot what happened before the break.

this line from a news article on the SFO 777 crash is great:
Another caller dialed 911, thinking the response was taking too long.
"We still don't see any firemen or anything," another witness said.
"We are responding, trust me," the operator responded
Welcome to Project Update Thursday!
@Aaron lol NPR did a story on 911 congestion the other week, this is a prime example of the kinds of calls they don't need
@Tester101 Hey, that's my line. :)
Well, seeing
as I was without power. I did nothing.
Anyone have advice for positioning recessed lights in a kitchen, how many to use, how close to the counters, etc?
19:03
Yeah, put them on the ceiling.
@HerrBag Is the kitchen and bath expert.
Ideally, you want them shining down on the counter. You don't want your body shadowing your work.
@ChrisCudmore but the walls are so much closer to the switches, I could save a bunch in wiring. :)
And you want the cones of light overlapping.
I'm also going with under cabinet lighting
19:05
Yeah, Fluorescent floods work wonders on a workspace.
Then you can move the pots out into the room a bit more.
Fluorescent? I want LED to keep my nerd badge.
pfff. LED. We're going with Quantum Lighting!!!!!
@ChrisCudmore I never know whether those lights are on or off
@BMitch They're neither, until you look at them.
They're both.
19:10
In related news: The cat is dead, as the experiment never mentions poking breathing holes in the box.
@Tester101 that's far less relevant that the poisonous radiation source w/in the box :P
For under cabinet lighting, I found that flourescent in a kitchen were too blue-y light
I prefer halogens
@waxeagle Right, but if the radiation didn't kill it, the lack of oxygen surely did.
I thought Curiosity killed it
curiousity?
Since apparently we're going into physics jokes today
19:14
@lsiunsuex isn't here. Maybe he's found a job!
Heisenberg and Schrodinger are out for a ride when a cop pulls them over. he says "Do you know how fast you were going? Heisdenberg says "No, don't tell me!" The cop says "90mph". Heisenberg says "great, now I'm lost". The cop, thinking this behavior is suspicious, goes and looks in the closed trunk and says "Hey, do you know you guys have a dead cat in here?" Schrodinger says "Well, NOW we do, jerk-face!"

Q: How can I prevent my clothes dryer door from fogging up?

Tester101When I turn the air conditioning on in my house, the inside of the window in the clothes dryer door fogs up. Also, if clothes are left in the dryer, they become slightly damp again. How can I prevent this?

@Tester101 does your AC have a humidifier built in?
Well that's a new one. I'm guessing air is being sucked in? If so, check the damper on the outside of the dryer vent, it may need cleaning.
There is a humidifier, but the damper is closed so it shouldn't be active.
19:34
You should know better than to ask a question without a photo, we all want to see pictures. :)
how can I forge this (that's on topic right?)
Only if it's for your home.
@ChrisCudmore that's definitely a backyard piece :) which probably means it's in the G&L domain :)
19:58
That flag was marked helpful?
@ChrisCudmore Why wouldn't it be, it's true the commenter is a smart ass.
Good point.
Vogue.co.uk
Enter Konami Code while page has focus.
@ChrisCudmore What's with the dinosaur?
I have no idea.
Some programmer apparently slipped that in.
How do people find this stuff. Do they go around reading source code, or entering old Nintendo codes on websites?
20:11
I think the hacker usually leaks it.
@Tester101 tbh the konami code is a pretty common thing for people to use to try to break things/look for easter eggs.
I'm just going to say that the model on the top, lounging in the chair with the red/white stripped bathing suit has an ugly face. It's almost manly.
Probably the result of too much photoshop
@BMitch You're not supposed to look at models faces.
Looks almost CG. Skin looks like a RealDoll.
20:26
Would a perpetual motion machine have to be completely silent?
No. As long as it produces more energy than it loses through noise.
But generally, noise is a sign of inefficiency.
