Regarding your answer for the aniline question: I don't think resonance/SIR is a good enough solution for the problem..A full MO treatment would be nicer, for a couple reasons:

1. Nitrogen in aniline is closer to sp^2 than sp^3, and in dimethylaniline it is almost 100% sp2

2. The difference in basicity is quite low between the two compounds (reference (here)[chtf.stuba.sk/~szolcsanyi/education/files/…). Gas phase basicity of 2,6-dimethyl-N,N-dimethylaniline is 221.0 whereas that for 2-methyl-N,N-dimethylaniline is 221.0

yeah but ortho effect is completely different from SIR

ortho effect is interaction of primary substituent with substituent at ortho position whereas SIR is inhibition of resonance of primary substitutent with the aromatic ring.

I was using an orbital viewer for linux though; i forgot it's name. I found it highly unintuitive and also lot of big words in there;

I'll need to get better concepts before doing all that stuff

all my CBT mocks were on a hour timer and suddenly the damn thing was reading 180 min instead of 3 hours, so I ended up skipping a couple questions in math.
