I've given it ago, think I got it. He suggests turning on the choke on a cold start, and not leaving any gas in at all if you expect a long period of disuse

Which is reasonable advise - specially for petrol

I have little experience with vehicles I'm afraid, and zero with gennies :)

did read up on chokes briefly to help decipher the guy's answer :x
