@Mazura I think removing a stuck bolt is something many DIYers will find useful. I can understand someone saying that a DIYers needs to know how to remove the bolt, not why heat works. If the community doesn't think it's on topic here, then I'm guessing a site like physics.SE might want it.
I wish I would have stated the question a bit better. As it seems there's 3 answers that are each "correct", depending on the situation. If it's a nut and bolt, Vladimir Cravero's answer is good. If there's corrosion holding the bolt in place, Ecnerwal's answer is good. If there's a non-corroded bolt in a solid hunk of metal, my answer's good.
@Mazura I cite electrical code, which applies to residential, commercial, and industrial. However, commercial electrical work is no place for DIY. I have no problem with professionals asking questions, but this is obviously not a professional.
'I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you stop painting the brick now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.'
LOL sorry; couldn't resist.
The close reason: go ask your inspector would shut it down right quick ;)
