FAQ changes look good.
And I stumbled across the [ask] magic-expando-comment-link by accident, and found this:

A: Add data.SE style "magic links" to comments

balphaMost of these now work. My comment below has the following markdown source: On [main], you are expected to write proper English (as advertised on [english.se]), but here on [metaso] it's more important to have freehand circles, so please [edit] your post, otherwise I'll have to flag you (see ...

@NiallC. Thanks. That MSO post is good to make a link to something that already exists. In my case, it turned the "headings" into something that can be linked to, and added them to the right navigation bar. I saw the results of that in other FAQ's, but had no idea how they did it. So I just used the headings and it happened to work by accident.

@Aaron I think Hobby Projects is good.

Does @JeremyW.Sherman ever drop into chat? Because that was a nice edit job on the oil-vs-latex wall-o-text: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/4283/…

4:58 PM
Yeah, that was on my todo list, but I didn't have time.

5:09 PM
@NiallC. no hits in the search, but that was a good cleanup.

@BMitch Yup. Some edits are definitely more work than others.
@Aaron What about it?

@Aaron I already used the faq link, those magic links are handy, they should advertise them more

I was just testing some of those magic keywords
Is there a way to link to a comment?

@Aaron yes, datestamp on the comment
@Aaron There's a sandbox if you want to play by yourself :)

@Aaron yes, that's correct. They get a single. — wax eagle 3 hours ago
@waxeagle how would that even show up 'Singled, thrown out at second on same play' on the scoreboard?

There needs to be another upvote on these answers so I don't have to pick one:

Q: What mortar should be used for flagstone?

LoriI once read about a mortar that starts as a powder I could put in between my flagstones, and then just wet it down and it would harden in place. Do you know what this product is?

@Aaron It would 1B, 7-4 (or whatever the putout is)

It still seems lame to me that you can get a single and out on the same play

@Aaron happens pretty regularly when a guy is trying to stretch to a double
as long as you reach first safely you get credit for a hit
(unless there is a force out somewhere else)
or an error
@Aaron also it's kinda lame to misjudge an outfielder's ability and get thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double (or double to triple)

Isn't that typically more on the 1B coach?

5:21 PM
@Aaron no, it's up to the runner to go to second, runners are taught to "turn and look" and they might get verbal advice, but if they slow down to listen their going to get nailed
the 1b coach might be able to give you some direction on your way down the line, but you have a better view of the 3rd base coach when you come around the bag

I thought that's why there were the hand signals

once you get around first your back is to the 1b coach though

true enough

How do I get rid of the offensive flag indicator in chat?

@NiallC. hard refresh?

5:25 PM
@waxeagle That fixed it, though seems like it should go away if I click on it and get the "there are no flags" message.

@NiallC. that bug has been floating around for a while...
@Aaron unless the ball is hit to right field, it's up to the runner to decide whether or not go to second, the play is n front of him so he can make the evaluation himself, right field he might have to rely on a coach to know if the fielder is having trouble. 2nd to third you get better advice from the coach at third because you can see him, and he can see the play

I wonder if there is a way to look at the Apple maps via web browser

@Aaron trying to get yourself lost?

I'm just curious how bad they are in some places, and I don't want to update my 3GS yet
(if I ever will)

@Aaron I doubt it will be long before they have Google Maps working, either via a supported app or some hack, probably worth waiting a bit.

A: Installing cable jack without box

ShawnCBergI ended up just getting some plastic anchors that I put in the drywall and then mounted the wall plate directly to those. That seemed like an easier, less messy solution. I know it won't be as strong, but at the end of the day this is only for a cable jack and nothing will be pulling on it. Tha...

Cables get pulled on. It's a fact of life. This is a "Harry Homeowner" solution not a good DIY solution. — The Evil Greebo 56 secs ago

ya
i wonder should the faq be updated to indicate that answers should recommend best practices not kluge fixes ...

That's how you do it. Right-click and select "copy link address" (or whatever your godawful browser calls it)
Or left-click and copy from the popup dialog

yup, you see I did just that ;)

The pencil at the top left of the post tells me you just learned how
J'accuse!

8:56 PM
I did, but before you told me
@NiallC. J'deny!

@TheEvilGreebo I think my cable guy just used some coarse threaded screws. Needless to say, I undid all of his work after he left.

I love the 'nobody will be pulling on it' attitude

That's the attitude of a single man.

Without pets
@TheEvilGreebo J'looked at the history and j'retract my accusation.

@NiallC. J'thank j'you
