@Aarthi Looks logical to me. I haven't double checked all the questions for any mis-tags, but for now I submitted the suggestion. I'll have another look in a few days when my head is clearer.

Q: How to unstick my light switch?

yehudaI was messing around trying to change a light fixture and the house fused. I unfused the house, fixed it correctly and everything is working. But the light switch will not turn off now. It just springs constantly to the on position and there is no click when manually you hold the switch into the ...

I wonder... does he mean he shorted the lines?

I'm guessing he means the breaker was tripped when he says "the house fused"

hopefully I have impressed upon him information about how he nearly killed himself

Q: How do I install electrical through "new work" stucco?

BryceSee also How do I install electrical through stucco which deals with the old work situation. What is the proper products and procedure for installing an exterior light, on a wall that will be re-stuccoed? Is this adequate?

looks like caulk holding the box on

There's a ROBERTSON screw in the center.

1:03 PM
which may or may not be secure in anything
shouldn't there be multiple screws mounting it? Looks like in its current position it can spin
ie: torque the wire

I would agree, but for the mean time, I'll assume that the screw goes into something good.

i still want a description. A picture may be worth 1000 words but only on the surface.

Q: Septic Tank - Did my contractor rip me off?

C CollinsI recently had my 1500 gallon septic tank fill up/back up. When the contractor removed the lid, it was obvious that the tank was completely full and needed to be pumped. The contractor then claimed that the Distribution box was also full and that I needed to add "Oxidizer Plus" in order to clea...

Off topic as a rant, but OK as "What gets added to a septic tank while being drained?" or similar?

Interesting. I edited it, but the edit title doesn't show on the front page. Does on "Questions" but not on the front.

Nice edit @ChrisCudmore. There's some caching of the front page these days
I think it has to do with the live updates

I bet it's cached server side, and is giving a not modified, until something big happens.
I also notice the last response in chat box is slow to refresh.

Q: Should the electrical tag be removed and replaced with electrical-region?

Chris CudmoreThis one is killing me. We get far to many electrical questions that don't specify the country. Can we permanently ban a tag, forcing the questioners to choose the appropriate regional tag? electrical-NorthAmerica electrical-UK electrical-Europe electrical-MiddleEast ... electrical-NoRegion (...

4:01 PM

@TheEvilGreebo that's awesome

@TheEvilGreebo as someone who was constantly reminded of an accidental bird impact by my now ex-gf, I have a hard time laughing at that. It's funny, but mean.

@BMitch I'm funny but mean too.

@TheEvilGreebo I was about to say that it fits your personality perfectly.

4:13 PM
@BMitch :D

@ChrisCudmore I'm picturing 50 tags, and someone will want to make an electrical tag for Latvia when they really should be in Russia or Europe, unless the Middle East standards extend that far north. After spending 30 minutes last night sorting out whether bath refers to bathroom or bathtub, I think fewer choices are sometimes better.

See my response to your answer.

@ChrisCudmore I wish we had a good solution for this. Without the ability to prompt the users somehow, we're left with trying to figure out which solution is less bad, dealing with bad questions or polluting the tag space. I'm leaning towards dealing with bad questions. On an abstract level, I like your solution, but in practice, I'm worried it will turn into a mess.

6:05 PM
Doesn't really answer the question even if it's not spam

Yeah, it's spam

Woohoo, spam flags away!

Boom, mod hammer :)

I've been itching to wield my new "protect question" powers... can I, huh, can I?

6:09 PM

Oh goodie, community just protected the question, I was about to do it myself

@Aaron Ladder.

@NiallC. you could of if that dang Community bot didn't beat you to it
@NiallC. If you see any other high view count post that's been answered a long time ago with a deleted answer or two, then go for it

@BMitch I'll just protect all of them

@NiallC. one can never have enough protection

6:36 PM
That's a much better pic.
Still needs an animated Mario going up it.

wow, the apple maps haters are out in force today

8:16 PM
Thanks @tester101.
I wish there was a way to preview the tag wiki excerpt as it appears in the mouse-over before submitting an edit.

@NiallC. He's quick to the drawl. We can approve other edits if you need it to look different, more points for you.

It looks OK in the mouse-over, I think. Not so much on the tags page
Anyway, that's my contribution to the vs. question on meta

I think it should be meaner: If you don't include your region, we will delete the question with extreme prejudice.

Woot! Only 1246 more tag wiki edits until I don't need them reviewed any more.

You'd be best to do it one char/edit.

8:30 PM
@NiallC. Should I start giving out bounties like rep is going out of style?

@bmitch and other mods: I see there's a yellow-highlighted section on the how to ask page. Is that something that can be customized on a per-site basis?

@NiallC. I don't see any edit points on that page
On the FAQ, it's only the top sections about questions that we can edit

@BMitch "improve your chances"
Or do you see a different view of it than I do?

@NiallC. yeah, it's strange, but there's nothing for me to click on

In the first para, there's a "improve your chances" in yellow. it's not clickable.

8:37 PM
@BMitch Hmmmm... I wonder if 10 500-point bounties would trigger the serial upvote reversal script.

Only if I give them all to the same person. Otherwise, it will just flag me as a crazy mod and get me a stern talking to by Aarthi
(that's a guess, none of us really has any clue how this thing works behind the scenes)

The Guardian suggests they've heard that Google already submitted a Maps app to coincide with iOS 6: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2012/sep/20/apple-google-maps-headache Yep.

9:20 PM
FAQ changes are up. Feel free to flame me.

Um, what changed?

Carpentry/woodworking, pictures and location, product recommendation/brand specific advice...
and no ranting (I think that's everything)
the layout changed a bit too, I put headers in there, which magically turned into links (I looked all over for how to make them links and it turns out that happened by accident)
I can only change things above "What kinds of questions should I not ask here"

There must be some caching; I don't see any of that.
Raincheck: I'll flame you later

cont-shift-R? maybe SE is moderating the moderators.

Already tried a hard refresh and nope. Most everything on SE is heavily cached these days, so I wouldn't worry about it for a while

9:31 PM
That seems to be the consensus, it takes a few minutes. I'll just stay cozy in my flame retardant suit.

Q: Run scored on 3rd out

AaronUnder what conditions can a run be scored on a play that results in a 3rd out for the team? I was under the impression that if a 3rd out happens, all runs that might have scored before time during that at-bat are invalid, but apparently there is more to it than that.

Anyone see the FAQ changes? I want to be sure I'm not talking to myself, again.

Is there an easy way to see diffs?

@Aaron For you, no, but I'll put up a screenshot. One sec.

new users can't attach image?
I would replace 'hobby projects' with something more 'arts and crafts' but I'm not sure of the right wording

I believe photos are at 10 rep points
Would arts and crafts include nerds building robots in a remotely DIY setting?

Is ranting a problem on diy?

11:39 PM
I've seen a handful of questions that were long tirades against a contractor with a short question at the end of "did he screw up?"

I don't think those people are going to read the FAQ regardless, but point taken
what happened to Jay Bazuzi? Haven't seen him around in a while

For me it's not so much "will they read it" as it is "here's why I'm editing/closing/deleting" your question
@Aaron He's a custodian now :)

Ah, I guess in chat

He has been quiet for a while, I'm guessing he's enjoying his yurt and doesn't want to get suckered into a blog post.
