@MattSamuel Why do you only bring up new users and askers in connection to closures? Putting a question on hold is intended to be an incentive for the asker to improve it. The users inconvenienced by the on hold status are those who want to post an answer. They are more often not new on the site and don't need particular help.
To put it bluntly. In terms of the infamous 4 camps of users your platform looks uncomfortably one-sidedly favoring camp 3 instead of looking for a compromise or peace between camps 1 and 3. The tension between those camps is where most of the quarrelling comes from. I'm not saying that bringing about peace between those conflicting groups would be easy. If it were, we would have already done it.
It just seems to me that you want to brush aside the existing compromises, and let camp 3 have it all their way.

@JyrkiLahtonen Clearly that very separation into "camps" is prejudiced. I don't see how you can refer to it with seriousness.

@MattSamuel The offensive name for camp 3 has been retired. Though I have heard that in StackOverflow they have a (non-offensive) substitute. Sure, those are prejudices, may be closer to caricatures, but they do reflect how users see other users actions. I'm sure you have noticed during this election campaign that the division is still there even though the more offensive terms have gone.
And neither "camp" is going to go away. As a (former) community manager explained here a compromise is absolutely needed.
@JyrkiLahtonen Can I ask what the handle on Meta SE (i.e. Jyrki - No Shog9 - No SE) is about? Did I miss something? Is Shog9 gone!?
Finding such a compromise is not easy. I tried and failed. In my meta posts I tried to analyze the needs of the opposign camp, hoping to understand them, looking for a compromise. The opposing camp never reciprocated. Undoubtedly many individual users did adjust their habits, but the "camp 3 norms" never moved. I lost my naîve optimism, gave up and resigned.
@XanderHenderson I'm afraid so.
