Let's be positive about coming election. Nothing worse is gonna happen because the world is already experiencing the worst kind of problem at this stage.

I wonder what would happen if every user who eventually votes nominates themselves as candidates, and votes ONLY for themselves? :-) @ParamanandSingh, I am simply joking about the posting of highly improbable outcomes, as Zacky first introduced, to emphasize the highly improbable problematic outcomes... Like you, I give far more credit to users on this site, than many others do, and to the positive energy induced in a new election.

The operating question ought to be, how can we maximize this opportunity to introduce another mod into the team? How can we work to convince users it's a worthwhile action to take part in the election, whether as a candidate or a voter?

@amWhy How bout a meta post outlining the fact that this site's quality is maintained by the community members themselves and time calls for leaders who uphold that quality and respect the views of the community

@sai-kartik Your comment makes it sound like a moderator's role is to be some sort of political leader. I think part of the responsibility of the moderators is to be above politics. (I would be interested to hear what the moderators think about this, although I realise my previous statement is rather imprecise.)

There is nothing inherent in the definition of "politics" that colors it inherently corrupt. Look up related words: polity, policy,...

Your comments on meta and regarding this election have been more "political" in the negative sense of the term, than any mods or most users eager about learning about the election who participate in this chatroom.

@user1729 Beyond the summarized "human exception handlers" (see here for more information), what precisely is a moderator's role is usually not so clear. Indeed, we as a team often have conflicting points of view about that. This is also true for most other teams as far as I'm aware. What makes the teams functional is the ability to reach some harmony and avoid gridlock even amidst conflicting opinions.

Personally, I find this heterogeneity to be more positive on average than a homogeneous understanding of a moderator's role.
