@Ben the ambient music for Tristam is playing in my head now

Ben
Welcome, friend!

@Ben sounds like you've been through the works!
Is epilepsy a new development for you? If not, sorry for not having been aware of it before!

Ben
Thankfully I'm out the other side now though. It was stressful, which was having an impact on my epilepsy, which was stressing me out... haha

Hope the car repair/replacement hasn't set you back too far, and get well soon to your thumb! ๐Ÿ‘
@Ben don'tcha love positive feedback cycles...

Ben
Nah it's always been pretty minor. The latest development is only recent. I've had for 10 years.

1:29 AM
How has your corruption system panned out?
@Ben ahhh ok! What did the doctors say about it?

Ben
Due to the epilepsy, I'll be off the roads for 12 months (at least) - get it under control before I get behind the wheel again. It's gone from a mild brain fuzziness to "absent seizures", which is a bit of a jump

@Ben yikes

Ben
Yeah. But, onwards and upwards :D

I'm trying to recall my first aid training about seizures

Ben
@AncientSwordRage Good! The game I played loved it, it added an extra level of flavour and mechanics to it, and it gave me a bit of an idea on how heavy to lay it on - in a one-off I laid it on thick, which worked well, but in a campaign it needs to pan out a bit smoother
@AncientSwordRage Thankfully it's not harmful to my health at this stage. An absent seizure has no effect on the body, I just gap on it. I keep doing what I was doing, I just have no memory of the past 30 seconds

1:37 AM
@Ben that's good!
I'm sure we were taught something like, call an ambulance if it's the 1st seizure ever, their 2nd in the same day, more than 5 minutes, or the first time after 10 years?

Ben
I'm still really thankful to my partner that pointed it out. I had no idea of it until the accident, then she pointed it all out and it all came together.

It was the 1, 2, 5 rule and I may have made up the 10 part?

Ben
A bit like the A,B,C of first aid...
No... A,B,C,D
Wait... DR ABCD
... DR'S ABCD...E?
@AncientSwordRage But yeah, we're going to re-evaluate the entire situation - I've checked in with the doc every 6-12 months but now since things have changed pretty drastically we're going to redo it all and make sure we understand what and why it's happening, and how to handle it best

Q: Tiny Creatures Can't Kill Players, Right?

Conflicted WriterI remember reading somewhere that tiny creatures can't kill players/bring them down to 0 hp in normal conditions, which makes sense to me. A rat biting someone's toe and dealing that 1 damage would be ridiculous to die to. However, I can't recall where that rule is in the various books. Can someo...

Q: Swapping attuned magic items in one short rest

Thom DeleonCan you deattune to an item and attune to a new item in the same short rest? So if my character already has 3 attuned items, can they swap out one of these items with another magical item in a single short rest? Or does it require two short rests (one to deattune and one to attune)?

Hi all!
I asked here (a few years ago) about suggestions for an RPG for kids (being a happy dad of a ~10yo daughter then). Someone recommended Amazing Tales and it became a hit. Sadly, I don't have too much time for GMing (once every few months, and I'm very inexperienced - AT was (almost) my first attempt at RPGs), but when I do, the kids (the daughter is now 13 and her brother 6) love it.
Now, in a week I'm going to a birthday party of my goddaughter (she turns 10), and I decided to run a short (~30-45 minutes) adventure for her (using the AT system). However, I'm really not good at inven

Q: Which official rules books and adventures are based in the world of Toril, or have a setting accessible from Toril?

JournerI recently started trying to look at lore of the Forgotten Realms and Toril, and it has made me curious which rule books (such as the Player's Handbook and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything), setting books (such as the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide), and adventures (such as Lost Mines of Phandelver...

Q: Can you get to Eberron via the Dream of the Blue Veil spell?

David CoffronThe dream of the blue veil spell says: You and up to eight willing creatures within range fall unconscious for the spellsโ€™ duration and experience visions of another world on the Material Plane, such as Oerth, Toril, Krynn, or Eberron. If the spell reaches its full duration, the visions conclude...

@mbork Magical Kitties and Puppy Day spring to mind, but at least the last one is better in a group (from what I gather at least)
I've not played either but I have looked into both

4:18 PM
@AncientSwordRage I have not played either, but Magical Kitties clearly is the superior one, because it is about the superior species.
@mbork Or of course Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau come to mind as AncientSwordRage mentions those two... Dog/Cat adventures!
in other news... maybe something Gumshoe based? I think someone mentioned Gumshoe being kid-friendly ages ago,

4:54 PM
*totally was insppired to ask about Monarchies-of-mau now...

5:31 PM
@Trish puppy day is about all species so actually it's superior because that set of species also contains kitties.

5:48 PM
@AncientSwordRage Pugmire clearly was an inferior game until Monarchies of Mau came out. I mean, how ungood a person makes a game about pets and does not include kitties at some point?!

6:16 PM
@AncientSwordRage, @Trish โ€“ you misunderstood me, I'm afraid. I'm set on using Amazing Tales, I just need some inspiration re: short, one-session adventure...

@mbork oooh... uhm... what's the setting? I mean, I don't know the game
but knowing a rough "Amazing Tales is a game about XYZ where players do ABC" or such can give a good idea into what things you can look at.

@Trish any setting will do. Amazing Tales is a pretty generic and simple system and can handle fantasy, sci-fi, superheroes, (almost) anything. I need a setting which involves horses (so some low-fantasy would probably be best).

The classic D&Desque plot hook for the first round... "You are in a tavern and almost out of cash. The innkeeper asks you to handle his rat problem for free lodging, food and drink for the night."
Setting with horses... Why does the back of my head yell Ponyfinder at me?!

ha, Ponyfinder looks pretty interesting, but it seems to be high fantasy โ€“ not what I had in mind

Ponyfinder is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic themed High Fantasy. Also, you play a Pony...

6:22 PM
yeah, I gather
one thing I forgot to mention (sorry) โ€“ the "you are in tavern" is probably not the best thing. This will be a game for a 10yo girl, and in that game the characters are also supposed to be children generally

2 Questions about style:
* Combat yes or no?
* Investigative stuff yes or no?

no, yes
(or: no, possibly)

"You are playing in the courtyard of the castle. You overhear Lord Blackbeard (who has a very magnificent black beard) yelling to Svetlana the scribe that he has displaced the seal and he can't finish the letter to the king without it. Then, he spots you, calling you over. He offers you a shiny gold coin if you can find the seal before dinner!"

+1
now, a meta question
how do people come up with those?
I don't seem to have that creativity spark, but I suspect it's a muscle you can exercise somehow...

for that one? I just thought "What kind of adventure would be interesting to a kid, could get it around all the place but not include any combat. So I thought "FETCH QUEST!". From there, it's jsut fleshing it out: who might send a kid to do a fetch quest? What might be the item?

6:29 PM
nice
that makes sense

The unwise adult who wants to swallow more and more animals to eat the previous animals

I guess I should practice these

Same core, different quest: Greg the Blacksmith calls you over as you pass the smithy! "Hey lad! You going out to the fields? Take these horseshoes with you and give them to the stablemaster on the way! He might even let you pet the black steed of Lord Blackbeard!"
though that's more a delivery quest, and then the stablemaster might give the actual quest to allow them to brush the horses. Like... he wants them to bring treats for the horses.

Does Lord Blackbeard have a magnificent black hat as well?

ty folks
I seem to have some gears spinning in my head now
I'll store the link to this convo to let you know how it went!

6:34 PM
@Phoenices And a magificent black armor! In fact, he wears black Velvet too! But his flag is a rainbow. His frenemy is the neighboring Lord Barechin... the two might or might not be secretly dating, depending on the GM
cackles madly!

lol

Lord Barechin has very strong opinions on color-coding everything in varying but matching shades. His castle has a clear and well-defined gray/blue theme, while Lord Blackbeard's castle is all over the place. His tablecloths aren't even all the same color!

@Phoenices Might Barechin be friends with Master Ponytail, the silver-haired scribe who always wears immaculate clothes in white, black, gray, and accents of purple?
I actually found that color coding characters can really help
Ok, it doesn't help that I play L5R, where whole clans are color-coded... kinda.

Q: Player does crazy elaborate things, without the GM knowing where it will lead

PudoraBackground Information: System is CoC, the game is a multi year long campaign, set in the 1920s. The Players character has a chemistry and firework background. The character has no strong weapon/combat skills (except for brawl) so the Player likes to get creative to be able to help in combat. On...

@Trish If it's any consolation, your reputation with us has no limit.

@GcL no problem, just the fractional numbers that show up always make my head spin. Like "+2" when you didn't accept an answer and then... "huh? oh, one sec... ahhhh yea, that was a 200 cap and some flags getting deleted/refunds/whatever"

I'm surprised to see this question given how much better the 5e php did of illustrating combat on a grid than previous editions.
Although reading the rules as 5' exclusion zone and 5' reach, I can see how they would come to the confusing conclusion that prompted the question.
