I have a vague idea that community ads might be a good way to advertise "hey there are RPGs other than D&D 5e!" to our community, which is something I've heard folks say they'd like to do! However, I don't have a great ad to write myself for this purpose, because my main game is still D&D 3.5e, and advertising that at this late date seems...a bit silly.
Perhaps folks who play non-D&D games might like to submit ads for them to that post? My upvote finger is ready!

I'm not in a position to make such an ad, but there are already aggregates like Across RPGSEA, a searchable database of Southeast Asian TRPGs curated by momatoes. I'd recommend that such ads be for those collections, rather than either a specific game or the general sentiment that such games exist.
A person could reach out to momatoes directly to coordinate such a thing, even.
There's the Lux Collective:

"Lux Collective: Lumen + Itchfunding" This is a website that acts as a hub for folks inside and outside the collective to find itchfunds of LUMEN games. Lux Collective is decentralized community of those who are itchfunding LUMEN games, its purpose is to boost each other's work and share experience.

On a different note: Hope everyone has a good weekend. <3

I'm going to be visiting a community elder this evening, so her family can help with a wedding. I'm excited to visit her, I've missed her a lot, and I'm also happy that I can help my friend's wedding happen.

@EmrysTernal How is excellent role play judged and awarded? If it's all on the DM, that means they have to be running the game AND keep an ear out for good role play. If it's player nominated, it is useful to have a table agreed upon set of things that are tell tale of good role play.

@BESW Enjoy! :)

@BESW thank you! I didn’t get a picture of her wearing it (well, I did. It’s not great though), but it looks beautiful even like that
I really enjoyed making it. And it was nice to not have to post the pattern I was going to do for June. Because I haven’t started that one yet and it’s going to be at least one of the pouches I’m making for a Project
@AncientSwordRage shawls are nice except it hit 110 here today and so everyone is avoiding warm things
Summer is not my favorite season.

I have a very light shawl that I bring when I'm gonna be all day in heavily ACed meetings, but that's the only time I've ever needed such a thing on island.

@BardicWizard same here, it's the least cozy season

8:20 AM
Ahhh I hope that doesn't come as bringing up old chat stuff... I just love this comic panel
@BESW this would be good but I feel it falls more in the vein of promoting more than just non-D&D games. I'd be comfortable upvoting both a generic non-rpg advert, and a specific RPGSEA advert

It's been about six weeks, so I've broken this question up into its four component parts, here, here, here, and here. — Glazius 4 hours ago
@Glazius thanks for doing this!

@AncientSwordRage I feel like a "did you know there's more than just D&D?" ad is gonna have a lot of problems. First, it's probably gonna feel kinda condescending. Then it's gonna have somehow overcome the "yeah, like Pathfinder!" response because that's totally not what's meant. And if it gets past both of those and the reader wants to go look for new TRPGs... there's no path for them to follow, no call to action.

@BESW it's very tricky
I saw a a question about how to recognize 'trad' games, which was 60-75% of the way there
If this had been asked as "what is RPG?" It could have been a good fit (may still be) rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/11033/…
This seems widely applicable to d&d players but may not be a great ad in itself: rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/151143/…
Hopefully someone else can tell me if this is an appropriate question for advertising to relevant stacks: rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/37720/…
On the one hand it might assuage some fears on the other heavier hand remind people there was ever difficulty
This question would be good for raising awareness of visual impairment: rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/86707/…
@BESW it might be worth a smart cookie writing up a self answered "if I play an RPG doe sit have to be D&D or pathfinder"?
That's a real question someone might have but I would need an exceptionally good answer to cover a healthy number of bases

how do you make spreadsheets again?

8:54 AM
Get your sheet and lay it out flat....

9:12 AM
@Trish or do you mean excel or tables on stackexchange?

@AncientSwordRage yes. I need a 3 column one... for Year, Edition A, Edition B

9:31 AM
@Trish Year|Edition A|Edition B
Then you need ----------
And the next line is just 1943| Old Edition|Blah
It should start appearing in the preview, and you'll see if I got that right or wrong

Found it!
| Year | Imperial Histories | Emerald Empire |
| :-- | :---: | :---: |
| 0 | Bl | A |

Great stuff

@AncientSwordRage yes, especially to portray differences in timelin

tricky one: I believe I have searched throgh all the l5R 5e sourcebooks that contain schools in my quest to plan to remake my Kitsune Shugenja for 5e... but no kitsune so far unless I am a horrible googler

@Trish The syntax is detailed in the MSE announcement, for reference:

Q: New Feature: Table Support

Ham VockeUpdate: I've just enabled this feature network-wide. All sites across Stack Exchange are now able to use tables. Thanks for all the feedback. We'll keep monitoring this question and we'll continue to iron out some of the rough edges. No waffling, right to the point: What? When? Where? Ta...

@V2Blast aye, just couldn't find it really, and my wiki-yntax didn't worked. Then copied from an answer someone formated for me

Here's the relevant help page section too: rpg.stackexchange.com/editing-help#tables

I have the feeling that the formatting of 5th edition L5R is tricky with that tiny red sidebar that I overlooked and made me waste 50 minutes searching for "Wait, you play a fox spirit with that option, what answers do I have for questions 1 and 2 then?" - and that tiny sidebar is Choose Any, you claim to be that... which only opens another can of worms: you can just choose to try to impersonate someone different... does that instantly shift your rings and knowledge?!

2:56 PM
@Trish The idea of an "impersonator school" makes it seem like you have one "deep cover" identity that you "actually are" in terms of house and family bonuses, and if you impersonate someone else you don't actually swap bonuses to do it.

@Glazius yes, but the rules at the sidebar there are sloppy...

No argument there. Who puts actual rules in the sidebar? That's for cross-references and commentary.

3:13 PM
@Glazius L5R, when the sidebar is red. When it's blue it's commentary. They had to work around page limits, so they stuffed stuff into the sidebars...
Oh, and of course GURPS Space, there are formulae in the sidebars, that are needed for the main text.

3:35 PM
@Glazius your chance to answer that question on site :P

Sadly, I know about L5R, but I don't know L5R.

I spent longer at the explanationary text (which totally is inspired to be some sort of backstory for the mythical Tamamo-no-mae intermixed with Kuzunoha... our little fox might become that one if the emperor causes the death of said engineer, and no, I did not gender them. play your own shipping games on Tama and their Engineer sweetheart they still haven't talked to a single word!)

3:59 PM
or does one call it more a vigniette?

4:14 PM
Let's call it a "user story"! :D

4:38 PM
@Glazius even though it is just meant to be illustrative... though I DO have made another question... will pose that after midnight... about fonts and how to use them effectively.

5:15 PM
@ThomasMarkov that's wonderful
@GcL great advice to always back up registry before messing with it
@EmrysTernal in AD&D we had a method from the DMG that was "roll 3d6 12 times, take the top six scores and apply to stats as desired" - does that help you? It washed out low scores nicely.
@EmrysTernal an approach I have seen for 5e is "4d6 drop 1, reroll all 1's" - another way to wash out low scores
not sure if that serves your needs for a 3.5e set up
char gen bonuses: the longer I think of it, the more I like "+2 for your race/lineage (from a menu of two or three traits) and "+2 for your class" (from two or three related traits) - this I got from 13th age.

Q: Would Subtle Spell/ Aberrant Psionics let you cast while using a shield without proficiency?

ryanThe PHB states that you cannot cast a spell while wearing/using armor you are not proficient with. If you were using Subtle spell to remove Somatic components, or Psionic casting to take away V/S/M entirely would it overrules the lack of proficiency and allow you to cast a spell?

@KorvinStarmast Or that document before someone thinks, "I'll just mess with the formatting of this one thing"

@AncientSwordRage that's one of three I have open in other tabs, currently, pondering whether to nominate it through the meta.

@nitsua60 it's got my vote

7:25 PM
@AncientSwordRage how'd you get around the "trivial answer converted to comment" hassle I just hit?

@nitsua60 not sure

Well, I re-posted and it accepted this one.

I guess trivial answers are okay if you really mean it =)

@GcL Have you checked all cables?
I have a question for after midnight/tomorrow morning... do we have a tag akin to handouts or something?

Like, physical artifacts I'd give my player at table?
("Here's the setting info," or "here are my rules for arial combat"?)

@nitsua60 papers with text the characters find. Like... the contents of a diary or an inscription
@Someone_Evil do such texts fall under props?
maybe too?

Love the LtB:
“Judge Kenneth Lee of the Ninth Circuit,” whose opinion in Briseño v. Henderson contained a number of pop-culture references, including one that made clear he’s not a fan of the third trilogy. The court vacated a class settlement, opining that the injunctive relief promised to the class wasn’t worth much. The defendant essentially agreed not to do something it can’t do anyway, the court wrote, which is “like George Lucas promising no more mediocre and schlocky Star Wars sequels shortly after selling the franchise to Disney. Such a promise would be illusory.” A footnote clarifi

It's a pretty good guarantee of picking up at least one question during the lightning round of Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, too =)

@Trish i'm instantly suspicious of any judge that opines that the force awakens is the best of the bunch

@Yuuki he opines the three are all terrible, and he likely didn't watch the force awakens...

@Trish hmm... sustained

@ThomasMarkov @G.Moylan I don't think I'd have pegged either of you as EVE players -- I never really got into the spreadsheet side of the game, but did enjoy my time as a W-space hunter and occasional space merc

@Trish Several of the questions you voted to close were just mistagged, but otherwise appropriate questions.

@ThomasMarkov still needed to get out of the queue.

Right, I’d recommend slowing down a bit and making sure the questions actually need closure, several just needed a little bit of editing help.
@Shalvenay Did you roll with a wormhole Corp?

@ThomasMarkov sure did, joined up with KAIRS and stuck with them through TL imploding-exploding (where KAIRS became N0MEX)
(after a brief stint in sov dull and some time learning the 0.0 ropes with an off-brand training corp)

Q: What family does the Kitsune Impersonator belong to?

TrishThe 5th edition Emerald Empire book does present the Kitsune Impersonator on page 229 as an option to play a Fox spirit. But it doesn't present any family or clan they belong to or has a rule for picking a family. Don't they choose a specific family or do you need to make one according to the Ron...

11:28 PM
@Shalvenay I quit after Dropbears got evicted from Nova.
