I have a vague idea that community ads might be a good way to advertise "hey there are RPGs other than D&D 5e!" to our community, which is something I've heard folks say they'd like to do! However, I don't have a great ad to write myself for this purpose, because my main game is still D&D 3.5e, and advertising that at this late date seems...a bit silly.
Perhaps folks who play non-D&D games might like to submit ads for them to that post? My upvote finger is ready!

I'm not in a position to make such an ad, but there are already aggregates like Across RPGSEA, a searchable database of Southeast Asian TRPGs curated by momatoes. I'd recommend that such ads be for those collections, rather than either a specific game or the general sentiment that such games exist.
A person could reach out to momatoes directly to coordinate such a thing, even.

@EmrysTernal How is excellent role play judged and awarded? If it's all on the DM, that means they have to be running the game AND keep an ear out for good role play. If it's player nominated, it is useful to have a table agreed upon set of things that are tell tale of good role play.

I really enjoyed making it. And it was nice to not have to post the pattern I was going to do for June. Because I haven’t started that one yet and it’s going to be at least one of the pouches I’m making for a Project

@AncientSwordRage I feel like a "did you know there's more than just D&D?" ad is gonna have a lot of problems. First, it's probably gonna feel kinda condescending. Then it's gonna have somehow overcome the "yeah, like Pathfinder!" response because that's totally not what's meant. And if it gets past both of those and the reader wants to go look for new TRPGs... there's no path for them to follow, no call to action.

I have the feeling that the formatting of 5th edition L5R is tricky with that tiny red sidebar that I overlooked and made me waste 50 minutes searching for "Wait, you play a fox spirit with that option, what answers do I have for questions 1 and 2 then?" - and that tiny sidebar is Choose Any, you claim to be that... which only opens another can of worms: you can just choose to try to impersonate someone different... does that instantly shift your rings and knowledge?!

@Trish The idea of an "impersonator school" makes it seem like you have one "deep cover" identity that you "actually are" in terms of house and family bonuses, and if you impersonate someone else you don't actually swap bonuses to do it.

Oh, and of course GURPS Space, there are formulae in the sidebars, that are needed for the main text.

I spent longer at the explanationary text (which totally is inspired to be some sort of backstory for the mythical Tamamo-no-mae intermixed with Kuzunoha... our little fox might become that one if the emperor causes the death of said engineer, and no, I did not gender them. play your own shipping games on Tama and their Engineer sweetheart they still haven't talked to a single word!)

@EmrysTernal in AD&D we had a method from the DMG that was "roll 3d6 12 times, take the top six scores and apply to stats as desired" - does that help you? It washed out low scores nicely.
@EmrysTernal an approach I have seen for 5e is "4d6 drop 1, reroll all 1's" - another way to wash out low scores
not sure if that serves your needs for a 3.5e set up
char gen bonuses: the longer I think of it, the more I like "+2 for your race/lineage (from a menu of two or three traits) and "+2 for your class" (from two or three related traits) - this I got from 13th age.

Q: Would Subtle Spell/ Aberrant Psionics let you cast while using a shield without proficiency?

ryanThe PHB states that you cannot cast a spell while wearing/using armor you are not proficient with. If you were using Subtle spell to remove Somatic components, or Psionic casting to take away V/S/M entirely would it overrules the lack of proficiency and allow you to cast a spell?
