Q: What are the DM's responsibilities when dealing with a character's death?

VokrugThis facet of RPGs is the thing with which I have the least experience/comfort level.  I'm sanguine about the idea that Dungeons etc. are inherently dangerous places, and that the PCs behavior is generally risk-take-y, and that sometimes PCs ignore hints, and bad rolls happen, and that death is s...

@Anoplexian Aw, that's glum :( I hope you work something out
Maybe you'd benefit from playing something else as a palate cleanser? My personal RPG world was little short of rocked by trying out Apocalypse World, after having a lot of frustration with DnD 4e (largely due to us being a very newbie group, with very little idea about ~anything)
Though many of these require a fair bit of same-paging to get the DnD-isms out of the play, if the group is very immersed in the expectations particular to it

Q: Understanding the Rune Knight Fighter's 15th level feature

Brandon MyersIn the description for this feature, it says Master of Runes: You can invoke each rune you know from your Rune Carver feature twice, rather than once, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a short or long rest. Q: What determines if a Wild Shaped Druid/Rogue can use a finesse weapon to gain Sneak Attack?

AxorenA Druid/Rogue multiclass gains access to Wild Shape and Sneak Attack. While Wild Shaped, a character gets access to most features it has normally. Sneak Attack is one of those features. I am aware that the basic Ape has a ranged attack that qualifies for Sneak Attack. I was hoping to learn of the...

Also, immediately -1'd at 4 AM. Who did I hurt in the past?

@Axoren Ursula Vernon's cat Sergei throws knives.

@BESW Would something like this fly without fiat, is more my question.
Like, could you roll up to Adventure League with a Mousebuckler.
I would generally allow it. Something like a Sif with a Shortsword, type-deal.
I'd be impressed if I could find a Whip-wielding animal that isn't just a primate.

8:18 AM
@Axoren Jellyfish and Octopus
both have natural whips :P

@BESW cats are definitely evil gremlins

@Axoren For AL? Show me a playable mouse or cat race in an official WotC book first. (Short answer: no. Unless you count Tabaxi.)

@Adeptus Druid + Wild Shape
As early as Level 2
It's even core.

@Axoren Oh right... then it comes down to "can that animal hold that weapon", which in most cases would be no.

@Adeptus A sizeable cat can hold a dagger in its mouth. Can it attack with it that way? Etc.
And how does one decide. It's not like we can look to real animals to determine if they can perform weapon martial arts.
Maybe if we start now, we'll have a dog that knows basic Rondell techniques by 10 years from now
And overhead strikes are out of the question for most animals.
But a determined weapon user that is suddenly an animal could probably figure some stuff out.
Which is where the disconnect comes in. How would we decide if such a thing is possible in 5e since there's no good real-world allegory and the rules are lacking here?

@BESW I love it, but I'd also like more lore, and maybe tweak the stats
But as a start it's excellent

Tonight's pesto will have basil, thyme, carrot greens, ginger, avocado, walnuts, and Parmesan cheese, with olive oil, lemon juice, black pepper, and chili sesame oil.
And maybe a little denanche'.

carrot greens in pesto
I would have never figured that for something anyone would use

@trogdor it's the greeniest!

I realize they are you know, edible
I just didn't ever think they would be used for that exact thing
XD
I mean to be fair I didn't specifically think of most of those ingredients to be used in pesto either but the carrot greens are especially surprising

9:39 AM
Months ago I reached the point where I'll try nearly any leafy green that's edible raw in my pesto, and almost all of them have worked so far.

I mean that's fair

I've made pesto where the only green in it was carrot greens and it worked quite well.

ok
I'm not even saying I thought it wouldn't work it's just surprising

Lettuce is too wet and mostly too flavorless, and some kale is too bitter, but otherwise... scarlet frills, baby spinach, arugula, it's all great.

I was going to say
I didn't think it would actually work at all for Lettuce
for those reasons even
also I feel like it gets a little gross if it's rendered down the way it would need to be for pesto
it's best as whole as possible in my own opinion at least
in like salads or sandwiches that kind of thing
cabbage might work? but it would be a lot of extra work

9:58 AM
Oh, and soy sauce instead of salt. Naturally.

naturally sure :P

11:00 AM
we use Tamari instead of Soy Sauce
it's supposedly supposed to be healthier or something

@BESW I sometimes avoid soya sauce due to the (occasional) alcohol content

Yeah, that's an issue. We store it in the fridge to help avoid that happening.

I mean, Kikoman have soya sauces that say they contain rice wine, unless I'm mistaken

Ah, yes. Gotta read those labels.

yup yup yup!
there seem to be several recipes for Lettuce Pesto on the web

11:05 AM
[squints suspiciously]

I wouldn't
I really wouldn't with lettuce
the Carrot greens are fine I was just surprised by them

@BESW I think they ask for a variety of lettuces, add less water from elsewhere, and use it as a flavour carrier

but lettuce is kinda an easily ruined green
XD

pettuce lestos eh

Yeah, if they're using the heartier varieties that have more personality I can see it.
But I'd want to really mix up the other flavors I'm adding, because the greens I use tend to be a big part of the profile.

@Anoplexian if the rest of the players are having fun, you need to do this: - decide what is more important, your friendships with the group, or the way you have the most fun with D&D. I have DM'd a lot, and have more than once run into the problem of forgetting I am not the DM when I am a player. Sometimes it takes another player to ask me to sit back a bit and just enjoy the ride ... and I suggest that you do likewise. This is a new DM, they don't need a back seat driver (in this case, you)
If you make this too uncomfortable, they stop DMing, and then there is one less DM in the world. You only get better at DM'ing by Doing It.
Oops, just saw where the DM decided not to DM. 🤨

@KorvinStarmast no bueno :(

@NautArch Mucho sad face here ...
New DMs usually need the crawl, walk, jog, trot, run progression - some rare ones do not.

@KorvinStarmast And they need leeway in trying to make things work. Usually keeping things simple is helpful.

@KorvinStarmast Im probably below average at story telling, but above average at mechanicsing, so if you like a game with lots of improv and lots of dice rolling, Im your man.

@ThomasMarkov And this is why we get along.

1:51 PM
@ThomasMarkov There are a lot of different kinds of DMs whose method works; I am sorry that I can't be in a game with you guys. (I got to play with Naut a while back and really enjoyed doing so before things got too hard on the scheduling side; I would love to be in one of your games).

@ThomasMarkov I have run games while barely knowing any of the rules, so I can feel that
"The psychic witch wants to throw you off the building, what does she roll?"
I nerd sniped myself into asking this over at Maths.SE

2:25 PM
So I played in a 5e one shot last weekend at a bachelor party
And I was surprised by how smoothly it went
7 players + the DM, only 3 of us had ever played before
The DM and I made everyone's characters and we just sort of threw the game at everyone
Everyone picked up everything quickly, though it did take 5 minutes to explain sneak attack to the swashbuckler rogue
@Someone_Evil I think we're getting into "untested ideas" territory here some post notices may be in order.

@ThomasMarkov sounds epic!
What level was everyone?

@AncientSwordRage level 3

good starting level I hear

Yeah. Everyone was variant human too

@ThomasMarkov any input into my question about short campaigns here?
@ThomasMarkov ahhh that's easier?

2:32 PM
@AncientSwordRage It seemed to integrate just fine. It was just another feature everyone had on their character sheet
@AncientSwordRage thanks for reminding me, i meant to chat you up in here about it

@ThomasMarkov nice, I guess there's less complication with unusual races
@ThomasMarkov I think it's salvageable? But I can imagine being convinced otherwise

@AncientSwordRage give me a bit

I'm not in a rush

2:45 PM
What's chat's opinion on The Fellowship? I am kinda feeling more like TRPGs again and I think it would make for good inspirational reading

@kviiri what is it?

@AncientSwordRage The other high fantasy PbtA TRPG system.
(being slightly less facetious, Dungeon World is the one people will generally know, and my understanding is The Fellowship cuts loose the DnD ties with much more gusto in favor of respecting more traditional high fantasy tropes)

@kviiri oh cool

Yeah ^^ I personally found DW to be a bit of a miss, for me, which is why I'm eager to learn more about this other PbtA take on the high fantasy genre

3:03 PM
@ThomasMarkov I had to try to explain that, and I just went "You basically always have it"

Jan 19 '18 at 10:01, by kviiri
My problem with Dungeon World is that I find it hard to do stuff in it that I like in Dungeons and Dragons, but also hard to do stuff in it that I like in Apocalypse World :<
Had to go digging for that one a bit.

Why don't spoilers work on main site? I selected the text (it's a long question) and the spoiler won't operate. What's the trick?

I think you need to click on the spoiler box, not select it

3:18 PM
@kviiri I am trying to create spoiler on my text with the >! and it won't hide the text. I got tired of trying, so I instead posted this over at GiTP.

did you have the right spaces?
I just posted a spoilery question on Sci-Fi and I didn't have any issues

You need to put >! at the start of every paragraph.
if you have multi paragraphed text within the spoiler

and it needs a white space gap before and after

>! [space][space] creates a blank line inside the spoiler.

3:33 PM
@Trish I like the idea of backstory tax, but I often see more experienced players picking the exotic races in my 5e games, and they'd pay tht backstory tax easily.

@HotRPGQuestions Irresistible Force intensifies.

@NautArch Related to this: my personal view from games like DnD is that people provide too much backstory in the first place.
(Usually, that is)

@NautArch I know but with experienced players I also know these will play their character better. The main idea of backstory tax is "if you can't tell me that you can't play your character now, I don't trust you to try it. tell me something I can work with, and then we can discuss how your character fits in."

@kviiri 100% agree. I'm not a fan of backstories for the most part.

Is this about the exotic player race question?

3:36 PM
@Trish But what if your game isn't very RP focused?

I still don't know what the core of the issue is

@AncientSwordRage yeppers

@AncientSwordRage Me neither really.

@AncientSwordRage I think that in many games, or at least I've experienced it in 5e, exotic races are more powerful.

@Trish Struggling to parse: "you can't tell me that you can't play your character now"
@NautArch that didn't seem to be it in the question

3:38 PM
@Trish Heck, I usually don't know how to play characters until I'm a few sessions in and I've figured out who they are and how they relate to the other characters.

@NautArch I prefer my games Character focussed.

@Trish It may help to say that in your answer!
@AncientSwordRage You're right. We don't know why it's an issue. If we don't know why, we can't resolve. I've voted to close :(

@NautArch they seem to not want to say either which isn't promising

@AncientSwordRage hence my close vote. I'm debating about a downvote.
The snark in the question is rubbing me the wrong way.

@NautArch done and done

3:42 PM
@AncientSwordRage before and after what?

My issue with exotic races is more of imbalance. I did run a campaign that ended way too soon (becausd problem player), that was supposed to be a world cut off from interplanar travel.

@kviiri I often do, but I can cut it down to 3-5 sentences if that's what the DM wants.

That player wanted to be an Aasimar from Sigil. I worked their story into why/how they got there, but because he shouldn't have been there, local reaction was mixed. Many feared, but others were very interested in him.

@AncientSwordRage I think that the first "you" is different than the second "you" or the "your". In other words: "You [person I'm talking to] can't tell me [person who is speaking] that, 'You [person who is speaking] can't play your [person who is speaking]' character now". It might be more clear as "You can't tell me that I can't play my character now".

@KorvinStarmast 3-5 sentences is pretty good :) My personal favorite model, though, is then welding it with the entire group

3:44 PM
@NautArch added

@Trish I strongly disagree with your lead sentence. We have several agnostic answers that do provide good info. Good info for what is the bigger question, tho :)

@kviiri A group of welders is certainly a unique party background

But I still like the idea of where you're going.

As an aside, I've personally played... I think almost exclusively humans in DnD?

@bobble makes sense

3:45 PM
@ThomasMarkov The Chairman player is always picking exotic races.

@AncientSwordRage all gnomes, all artificers, who knew? 😁

Also here's a thought: Group Backgrounds as a thing for D&D

@AncientSwordRage "Please tell me where your character came from generally and why he is in this situation that would be quite atypical for your character." that's what I want from exotics.

@Trish oh I LOVE coming up with those

@kviiri My previous table had a rule that for a single campaign, you couldn't pick the same race or class twice if you died. Luckily, there really were no character deaths by the GM.

3:46 PM
I often have the problem with the more striking races that they easily overshadow a lot of the personality with racial traits

@AncientSwordRage session zero says what?
@Trish But aren't adventures atypical from the commonplace anyway?

@NautArch I don't say you can't asnwer, jsut that a perfect answer would take in mind the specific setting and all.

@NautArch ...what?! :D

@Trish Maybe? I also think there are no perfect answers.

@NautArch not in all settings. Shadowrunners are the junk of humanity and many people are thrown into it. And generally, for Shadowrun, I mostly ask for "explain where you got your skills"

3:49 PM
@Trish I still think that's a trivial tax, but it's much less important in character focused games than combat.

@NautArch true, for experienced players it can be trivial, but the difference between "if you play a human rogue, just tell me who you are. If you are an elven archer, tell me also who's your parents, how you grew up and what is your preferred fruit" can encourage the simpler options. It makes sure the players actually think about the character and don't play the character for novelty alone. It's a rather soft method, but it works especially well on beginners.

@Trish I guess I see the use of exotics in my games has been to increase character effectiveness and not for rp reasons.

@Trish If you are requiring extra details about a character on the basis of exclusively what race the character picked, that's a pretty unkind way to try to limit character race options.

@NautArch What I mean though is more giving the group shared skills/abilities

@AncientSwordRage oh. that's kinda cool, too.

3:55 PM
If they're all welders maybe they have construction skills, or maybe they get persuasion bonus to guilds, or they all have the acrobatics skill because they're ex-circus

But I am hoping that for my upcoming local game, I can get everyone together to do chargen as a group so that they can be a group starting.

If a nonhuman character you want to be, you must first solve my lore-intensive riddles three

@NautArch nice

@MikeQ What is my favorite color?

@RevanantBacon no, it's based on the package of Race/culture/Job. The bog standard imperial human that just happened to be a priest of the god of truth had to do the same 1 page minimum as the elvisch elven wildness ranger.
Elves from human culture would have had jsut the 2 paragraph tax that is the same for Dwarves.
The approach generally just requires more background from any character that is harder to integrate in the campaign.

3:59 PM
@MikeQ My name is Biv - Roy G. Biv

If the campaign was an expedition of the Thorwal people, then any non thorwalian would need to pay background tax. A travel through the Novadi desert would tax mages and Thorwal people.

@KorvinStarmast Hugh Mann

I just found out that the newest D&D5e Unearthed Arcana allows me to play as a Math Wizard, and I am here for that. 😍

@Xirema I did not get far through that, but sharing subclasses is an interesting idea

@AncientSwordRage the lack of balance in this UA is being discussed over at GiTP; but the idea has a certain appeal if every PC goes by this norm ... but sadly, only a few classes are eligible. It's another M:tG being duck taped onto D&D thing.

@AncientSwordRage Yeah. I'm not entirely sold on the execution: since they have to be compatible with multiple classes, they can't key into class features the way that normal subclass features can.

@Xirema yeah, it's kind of messy

I'd much prefer a version where they just have multiple subclasses for each concept so they can make tweaks and alterations to fit the specific class.

@KorvinStarmast s/duck/duct/
@Xirema or even, "If you're bard you get this"

@AncientSwordRage Duck is a big brand of said tape, though

4:16 PM
@AncientSwordRage I think that this idea would be neat as heck for 6e ... but do it from the ground up, not as a patch on the elbow of 5e.

@AncientSwordRage My favorite thing about duct tape is that nobody in their right mind would use it on ducts any more, it's too porous and there's better options. Maybe we just let the ducks have it!

@G.Moylan Ok then, s/duck/Duck/ :p
@KorvinStarmast good points

@LCooper don't they make aluminum tape for that now, anyway?

@LCooper If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, or tapes like a duck, it's probably a duck.

Also, considering Sorcerers are part of the list of classes included in this UA: They're kind of an odd-duck since they normally get their origin features at different levels than the other classes (Bard, Druid, Warlock and Wizard are all 6/10/14, but Sorcerer is 6/14/18), and yet all the class features are keyed to 6/10/14, so is the expectation that a Sorcerer gets their "origin" features earlier than other sorcerers, or later than other classes of these subclasses?

4:17 PM
@AncientSwordRage put a little respec' on that Duck

@G.Moylan I assume that's what the newer tape that people use is, yeah!
@KorvinStarmast But how much does the duck weigh?

@Xirema unclear

@AncientSwordRage 😐

Gaff tape is just better for everyday, general purpose strong tape anyway. Though I guess it's bad at quacking
@LCooper one wood

Also the subclasses miss out on Arcane Trickster and Eldritch knight

4:19 PM
Gaff tape is the king of tapekind.

@LCooper same as your garden variety witch

also why can't a Bard be Prismari for flips sake? It's the school of performing arts!

@G.Moylan that's called a driver

@LCooper the big downside is you have to order it online (I've yet to see it in any store, anywhere) and it's not cheap or waterproof. But man is it just so much better at everything else

@KorvinStarmast they prefer the term Chauffeur

4:20 PM
@KorvinStarmast If a duck could drive what would it drive?

@AncientSwordRage I'm willing to put down money that the sole reason is that they didn't want to have to rewrite the level 14 feature to accommodate the fact that Bards already get Dexterity Saving Throw Proficiency. 🤣

The DUKW (colloquially known as Duck) is a six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2+1⁄2-ton CCKW trucks used by the U.S. military during World War II and the Korean War. Designed by a partnership under military auspices of Sparkman & Stephens and General Motors Corporation (GMC), the DUKW was used for the transportation of goods and troops over land and water. Excelling at approaching and crossing beaches in amphibious warfare attacks, it was intended only to last long enough to meet the demands of combat. Surviving DUKWs have since found popularity as tourist craft in marine environments...

@G.Moylan Huh, I'd never thought about that! I wonder if any of the theatrical supply stores around here would have it, since it seems to be a required part of a stage manager's kit

@AncientSwordRage I figured that'd be the answer as soon as I finished writing that

@Xirema someone needs to throw a stink about this half-baked UA

4:21 PM
@LCooper I don't frequent those sorts of places so that may be the mistake I'm making

and it releases this year?

@AncientSwordRage at least it's still UA and has a chance of getting better

@G.Moylan see the above message
play testing should be iterative

I mean, I'd really like to playtest this stuff, because it seems interesting, but I can't imagine this stuff making it to official books unless they make pretty radical changes, possibly changes that would lessen the novelty.

@KorvinStarmast anything else about it being discussed?

4:23 PM
@G.Moylan I'm a cosplayer, so I'm in and out of them somewhat frequently-- I'll order some stuff online, but they normally seem to have gotten bulk pricing on some items so it's worth poking my head in

@LCooper oooh any favoured characters?

@AncientSwordRage My wife's uncle had one of those during the 70's (got it via a surplus auction) and he used to take people for rides in it (for money) but eventually had began to have trouble getting parts, so he sold it.

@G.Moylan Does it sound like a Duck, look like a Duck, smell like a Duck and taste like a duck? Then the common law says, it's a duck.

@LCooper I watched Cowboy Bebop for the first time recently and now I'm super interested in making a Spike cosplay. It also seems super easy save for the jacket

@AncientSwordRage what a mess it is, and how to exploit it. (See the previously posted link)

4:26 PM
I keep trying to think of a set of three characters that myself, my wife and her brother could cosplay as
@KorvinStarmast fair

@AncientSwordRage I'm really big into armor building and fantasy stuff! I've done a ton of Critical Role cosplays, but my favorite is the Lich King from WoW. There's just something about giant shoulders and a big cape that makes me a happy bunny!

@LCooper LK is a hulking brute, too. Everything about that character design just commands attention

@LCooper Have you seen the Karn Cosplay?

@AncientSwordRage the one the Prof featured?

Also I've played a half-ogre at larp, wearing armour is fun
@G.Moylan yes exactly

4:27 PM
@G.Moylan If you're on Facebook at all, Kamui's Cosplay Community is SUPER helpful for specific questions! Normally I warn people beforehand that they've got relatively strict policies on questions, but coming from SE, you'll be just fine!

@AncientSwordRage it was cool but it looked a little off to me

@G.Moylan it was very much an interpretation

@LCooper No FB for me anymore. Ditched it a few years ago.

@AncientSwordRage The implementation was cool. having the glowy bits was a nice touch and was done well

@AncientSwordRage Daang, that's some impressive craftsmanship. Not familiar with the character, but it's well done!

@G.Moylan it was also huge :D

@AncientSwordRage yeah very large. as befitting the Silver Golem

@G.Moylan Valid! I keep thinking about nudging some of the cosplay facebook groups to see if people would be interested in a cosplay stack since duplicate questions ABOUND and there's not a good repository of cosplay information, but I'm not sure how it'd go over...

@AncientSwordRage With Teferi? yes, it was pretty good

@LCooper It doesn't seem like a good stack concept. Not too many objectively "Correct" ways to do things in that community, it seems. Much better suited to a forum with good guidebooks, perhaps? Maybe I'm missing something

@Xirema Wizards.... what are you doing.

@Xirema [X] Doubt
@Xirema They don't even proof their Magic cards these days

4:36 PM
@Xirema heh
@G.Moylan would fit on an arts and crafts stack though

@G.Moylan There's definitely some questions that don't work well because they're more creative, but for technical stuff like "how do I attach horns to a wig" or "how on earth do I keep this chestpiece on", there's almost always a single best solution to the specific problem

crafts.stackexchange.com/search?q=cosplay (18 hits for "cosplay" on Arts & Crafts SE)

@bobble thanks for searching for that for me

@AncientSwordRage I would worry about the same issue we have here with D&D, tbh, these groups see a ton of questions-- if people moved to crafts, it could easily overwhelm other questions

@LCooper you wouldn't get 100% conversion

But for the most part, I don't think I'd be able to convince enough people to make it viable anywhere; there's a handful of cosplayers who would be familiar enough with SE to get on board, but the hardcore crafting people don't have a ton of overlap with the tech-y sorts who frequent SE
Mostly it's just disappointing to me that, with the age of forums pretty squashed (at least for cosplay), most community interactions happen in Facebook groups, making it harder to google for information and difficult to see if your question has been asked already; it's such a limited venue, but it's sort of the only option we've got at this point

@LCooper you need to start slowly self answering using info from those groups, then the next time it pops up, you can reference back to the Q&A over here

@AncientSwordRage Ooh, sneaky! I like it :D

(any project involving a non-insignificant number of self-answers should perhaps be cleared on their meta)

I just got to the Silverquill part of the UA. Why can't a flipping Sorcerer be a mage of silverquill when they can be a Shadow Sorcerer?
@bobble Smart and responsible. Also dropping something in their chat I presume wouldn't be unwise?

The chat was last active 21 days ago, and that was Smokey

Real talk, we got the best stack on the network.

Would you like me to link meta posts from other stacks claiming they're the best?

@bobble please

@bobble sure if you want to spend time sharing misinformation

@AncientSwordRage elitist snobs? Though one might make an argument for "natural" talent being better than acquired

> Inky Shroud: When you cast the spell in this
way, you can see normally through the darkness
created, and when a creature you can see starts
its turn in the darkness, you can deal 2d10
psychic damage to that creature
So any number at sight range, without using an action?

@AncientSwordRage isn't that the same for stuff like Spirit Guardians, though?
within range, of course

@G.Moylan I may have skipped those

@G.Moylan oh right that, sorry my mind went to Lorehold for some reason

Q: Should this question about player race selection be open or closed?

ESCEI've noticed that this question about limiting exotic races has gone from closed, to opened after some helpful edits, to closed again (without seemingly significant edits). Even now it has a re-open vote. So, I simply ask; should this question be closed, or open? (Asking on meta per the guidance ...

@Xirema i have needed, and used, GR a lot due to my party mates getting turned in to statues a bit too frequently ...

@TheOracle the link to the question should be to the question and not an answer

@TheOracle I was literally just about to make comment about the wild ride this post has been on

@AncientSwordRage yep, needs a tweak before going final, sez I ...

@Xirema Being WoTC

@KorvinStarmast lots of it do, but I can't see them having time for multiple rounds of feedback

@AncientSwordRage Yeah, what they do is in a few weeks, they post a survey and people do or do not respond if they care. Which is why I often respond to the surveys. They obviously did not do much analysis of Multiclassin exploits on this one ... half baked as usual. Toss the linguini against the wall, see which noodles stick is a method, I guess.

@KorvinStarmast I've seen them do that before, but It looks like even with good feedback, they'll need to get another round done
but the book has a release date, right?
yeah: November 16, 2021

@AncientSwordRage yeah; heck with psionics they did three or four before finally putting the psy rogue and the psy fighter in Tasha's. But management has changed, and I see the "product fusion for profit" as what's driving the train. And some folks in the player base love the MtG - D&D fusion for its own sake.

@KorvinStarmast Hasbro is slowly straining the juices out of all of WotC's properties and it's been apparent to varying degrees (depending on what properties you consume) for a while now

5:31 PM
It's so strange watching this unfold while also being a long-time avid Sims player, where the exact same thing has been gradually happening with management and profits and wildly varying quality of add-on materials

@G.Moylan Drzzt is their next GI Joe, of course. 😋

@KorvinStarmast Honestly, G.I. Joe will probably make an appearance on a Magic Card within the next 2 years

@G.Moylan I will not bet against that prediction.

IDK what it is about major companies just really jumping into the crapper with both feet lately. IDK if late-stage capitalism has just swung into full-force or if I'm just noticing it more now, but the properties I love are slowly driving me away. First Blizzard, then Star Wars (though the TV shows have rescued me in that regard), now WotC.
I used to be a VERY avid MtG player, and though I've slowed down over the years I still loved it and played what I wanted to. But after the way it's been treated these past couple years I've become so... apathetic and ambivalent towards it, and it makes me sad
D&D is starting to get the same funny taste in my mouth

@G.Moylan I honestly just have ignored much of the recent releases

@NautArch The main sets are... fine. It's the constant barrage of garbage with the Secret Lairs and the pricing models and the specialty sets with huge price tags and very limited supply
and "Collector" packs and Set Boosters, etc.

5:59 PM
@NautArch on the race question, why do we need to know why OP wants to restrict race choices at character creation?
