12:10 AM
I note the conversation up there about Whedon and Tarantino. With the both of them, I like their ear for dialogue. And with both of them, plotting ... well, OK, go ahead with your muse. (And while I really enjoyed Firefly, I noticed a few of the gaping holes in the SF meets Wild West fusion).

2 hours later…
1:58 AM
hey there @Glazius and @nitsua60

1 hour later…
2:58 AM
HAHAHAHAHA
Mutants and Masterminds session just ended
Second turn I started with 1 hero point
I had 3
To quote the GM

The real conspiracy is how [Me] been secretly siphoning off all the good rolls from [another player] And everyone else.

3:44 AM
how do i fix my profile pic? it's stuck on my old one
ty whoever fixed it

3:58 AM
@Tanath The profile picture update happens on a delay

hours though?
didn't change until i asked
it changed everywhere else immediately

yeah probably
it probably only checks when you post
saves on resources

ah that could be

love how the diceroller has been enabling me to play a arrogant kung fu lady who can dunk on most people

"dunk on"?

4:09 AM
@Tanath as in "kick their butt"

odd phrase

4:22 AM
hey there @KorvinStarmast

5:09 AM
@Shalvenay hullo how are things?
Been out drinking with my brother in law. We only solved a tenth of the world's problems. We need to raise our game.

6:05 AM
Hi, is this attempted exploit OK? (question trend ...) what is the resistance to saying "no" ... cultural?

7:13 AM
@GeoffreyLim Hello hello

7:46 AM
@KorvinStarmast I was out for a bit of sauce yesterday and only solved the problem of a bad-sounding piano... someone had jammed the Soft pedal x)
I applied percussive force to correct the issue
I also remember explaining my research problem to a bunch of tipsy people and wrote a proof technique on a whiteboard to explain it

4 hours later…
@BESW
More evidence that M&M is silly game
Or it's just luck
not sure which

12:52 PM
Lady Blackbird tomorrow!
I'm exited
Ex...cited? There's a cee right?

@kviiri Excited. Exited means you leave a place. (poistua? poistui?)

@MikeQ Yuh
I think I'm generally quite decent at the English game but selling still gets me every now and then
err. Spelling
(leaving that mistake there because it's funny)

2 hours later…
2:32 PM
hey there @ACuriousMind

ahoi @Shalvenay

@ACuriousMind how're things going?

Pretty well, aside from the fact that I'm nursing a giant hangover :P

@ACuriousMind ah. take it you'll be available for our game tomorrow then? :)

Yesh :)

2:34 PM
cool :)

3:03 PM
We have a Wild West party in our block today
One of the organizers asked if I could play some ragtime there
(he knows I love playing, it was probably more for my sake than his :D)
Gotta love the anachronism but ey what can I do

3:59 PM
@kviiri while I agree generally with your last answer, I wish it were a little fleshed-out. I feel like there's room to talk about how an attack roll isn't just about hitting a space, but about hitting a moving target within that space in a manner so as to harm them. (So when PCs do that roughly 2/3 of the time, we can assume that getting an object in a 5'square within range is trivially simple.)

@nitsua60 Yeah... I think it's a bit weird but it's really hard to write a long answer about something that's essentially "nothing such, carry on"
But I'll try

Feel free to steal any of the above, if you agree.

I almost agree

@nitsua60 @kviiri The site has a number of similar questions about attack-less AOE effects that occur at a range. I've linked an example in the comments, if that helps. It's not a dupe though.

But things get a bit weird when you consider things like paralyzed, naked foes that require attack rolls despite being static and undefended
@nitsua60 Better?
@MikeQ Oh hey, coffee's back

4:11 PM
@kviiri Yes, I grew weary of that horrendous blue abomination grinning in my chat window

I wonder if I should replace the otter at some point
maybe with another otter

anotter otter

In DnD 4e, AoE attacks used the same rules as normal attacks (except they usually didn't target AC, but some other defense like Fortitude or Reflex)

@kviiri yeah, you otter.

Or maybe check out this machine-learning approximation of cat images here. Refreshing the page generates a new image. You're welcome.

4:14 PM
I'm not that into Lovecraft anymore
:D

OMG some of those are going to make me vomit.
"Spooky valley? Pukey valley, amirite?"

My favorites are when it incorporates cat memes that have text, and it produces inscrutable arcane symbols

hey there @nitsua60

@MikeQ I got a cat with the head of Jesus.
Clearly the site is blessed.
Or, uh, I guess that looks a bit like Peter the Great of Russia?

Kinda looks like a ginger root, but definitely not one I'd use for cooking

4:23 PM
It looks like a ginger root made out of really fatty ham
Or bacon
How novel --- an abomination that YOU can devour
I'm really happy these cats do not exist.

5:15 PM
hey there @Glazius

Super useful dice trick: instead of rolling 6d8, you can simply roll 4d4 + 2d6 + 1d10 + 1d12 - 2 and the results are almost indistinguishable.

Yes, that's much more practical
I could also write down numbers 6-48 with frequencies matching a normal distribution, put them in a bag, and then draw randomly

3 hours later…
8:48 PM
/me loads the chat page and suddenly sees the image.
This is another image of an AI trying to draw cats?
Ah yes, apparently that's the topic. How did I guess . . .

oh my god wat the #$#@@
I did not need to see that picture

Though my favourite Cat That Doesn't Exist is this one: cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/319575645594320906/…

hey there @nitsua60

Today in Lady Blackbird, Lady Seraphina Blackbird actually ended up marrying Uriah Flynt, who was a decent person for once (when not drunk, and even then only nasty to other people) and Cyrus Vance wasn't even that heartbroken.

9:20 PM
nice
we never even got so far as to meet him
we re-do the first scenario a lot

@trogdor How's the weather? No power loss?

nope
I am still good
there was some power loss on @BESW 's end apparently though
so some places lost power

Ello, friends. Would a question about giving all D&D5E full casters the Warlock spell system be on-topic, you think? Or too broad / opinion-y?

user15026
@trogdor Glad to hear :)

user15026
@trogdor :(

9:33 PM
@Ash thanks
@Ash yeah, it happens

user15026
nods

9:46 PM
I mean, it definitely sucks, but it's something you get used to when it happens as much as it does
@RavenDreamer I don't know 5e very well but it sounds like you have a pretty specific question, but it might be very opinion based depending on what exactly you are asking
are you asking how to do it or if you should do it?
if it's the first one I think you might be fine, if it's the second I think you might not be

The "how" is pretty straightfoward. It's more of a, "what are the implications that might not be immediately obvious". So more of, "how should I", rather than "should I".
Very similar to this old question of mine (other than the subject, ofcourse)
https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/101024/what-are-the-implications-of-replacing-initiative-with-enemy-phase-and-player

user15026
@trogdor Yeah, I figured that was likely how it went, kinda like how I am used to ice and snowstorms more than others may be.

@Ash yeah, I think I would be terrified by those
unless I just pretended it was a supertyphoon
maybe I would be fine then
maybe ice is louder though

@RavenDreamer If the question explains your implementation (i.e. would the pact magic be replacing everyone's spellcasting? is it normal spellcasting but slots refresh on a short rest?), then it would be on-topic to ask about the possible balance implications

user15026
@trogdor Often the ice is quieter, because it's ususally freezing rain, so you don't notice it until EVERYTHING IS SLIPPERY FOREVER

9:55 PM
@Ash oh ok, then I assume snow is louder because it lets the wind make all the noise?

user15026
@trogdor It can be.

maybe it's a little more similar to a typhoon than I thought then

user15026
I am proud to say, though, that I have survived this winter so far with only falling once on ice.

XD

user15026
@trogdor Maybe, like tomorrow we are supposed to get 100km/hr winds plus snowfall, so that will be...interesting.

9:58 PM
the big deal for me is how cold it would get
@Ash wind and snow isn't probably that different than wind and rain
maybe

user15026
Here it can get cold, we had a few -30C and colder days, but we tend to hover more in the -15 to -5C area mostly

yeah that's a huge drop

user15026
@trogdor Yeah, I suspect they're similar, its really only a matter of how frozen the precipitation is. :P

@Ash I think you get flooded less probably, at least until spring
:P

@RavenDreamer Questions about homebrew can be on topic

10:18 PM
@RavenDreamer It's too broad for anyone to analyze properly, but the short version is that if you want to do it and have the classes stay balanced, you'd have to rewrite every spellcasting class from the ground up.

10:30 PM
@Ash We're gonna still have damaging winds for the next twelve hours or so, and the thing's slowing down which means it's getting more powerful and less predictable....
(When a typhoon slows down, it can change direction more easily. Fast typhoons take longer to curve.)

10:53 PM
also if it slows down in the wrong place it could get stronger

user15026
@trogdor oh yes, snow I can neatly shovel aside mostly :p

user15026
@trogdor yikes. I think I will stick with snowstorms.

user15026
@BESW stay safe, friends.

it's not going to do that while it's sitting on us though, it does take some time and while any storm can get really big, this one is kinda a baby right now

We once had a typhoon slow down, stop, then back up over us again.
That's the sort of insanity that can happen if a typhoon loses its forward momentum.

10:58 PM
true

But unless this one completely stops, or gets a LOT stronger suddenly, our weather won't be getting worse again.

I won't deny that

user15026
@BESW that's a little rude of it not gonna lie

@BESW yeah they don't go from this to,... really a problem fast enough I think
unless this one backs over us
@Ash I would consider that extremely rude yes

user15026
Wholeheartedly agree.

11:59 PM
according to my folks it was upgraded to a Super Typhoon at some point?
