I misunderstood way back when you said you were "thinking about sword and board" as "I'm definitely doing that. do I take shield master or dual wielder"
Well, the problem with that is commander's strike. When I use it, I give up 2 attacks, which currently is approximately the same damage as long as i hit on both.
And not worry about getting an extra +2 AC at this point. My stats are also low enough that I could opt to pursue shieldmaster later on and not feel about getting another feat over an ASI once I have STR and CON up to 20.
@goodguy5 I was planning on going longsword and warhammer.
@NautArch I think going with the shield+commander's strike is more interesting (/less used) character and again cooperative which I try to push my own characters towards. Whether you then go feat or ASI, I can't say too much on. How many Dex save effects are your party usually exposed to?
@Someone_Evil I don't think its clearly an effect. I think dex saves are a bit more common, but again, with my current -1, i'm not doing well on those to begin with.
only because I think there are a lot of spells out there that call for dex saves, but i'm just making that stat up.
Let's say I am wielding a dagger and shield, and I am using the shield as an improvised weapon. Would Dual-Wielder Feat and the Dual Wielding fighting style be in effect while I am using these as improvised weapons?
@NautArch So it took me way longer than I expected to run stats because it turns out my TTD function wasn't implemented in my current environment, so I had to rewrite it. Anyways, I dumped them in the Plane of Math.
I play in a short dnd 5e campaign, with many undead type monsters, like skeletons and the like. My character has a Longsword, which deals slashing damage.
Now I would like if it would be possible to take my sword in the "Mordhau Grip" (basically grabbing the sword on the blade and using it to s...
I just came across this question:
What determines whether a magic item requires attunement?
which reminded me of a question I answered:
How can I decide if my homebrew item should require attunement?
which appears to clearly be duplicates. I believe newer questions should normally be clo...
What are the game rules for? It seems the role of rules1 was changed throughout the history of D&D.
For instance, as this answer says, there was an explicit destinction between "crunch" and "fluff" in fourth edition:
a distinction between "ignorable fluff" and the "real rules"
Such a se...
@Gwideon Try reading Pulitzer Prize winners. History, drama, novel, whatever. It's not like those are the only good things to read, but hoo-boy, are they (almost all of them) really good.
@Gwideon If you're bored, does the school have a gym or library you can access? Or maybe do some independent research into technical skills or other knowledge that interests you.
I will be running Rise of Tiamat as a sequel to a summer campaign I ran (which was not Hoard of the Dragon Queen). At the end of the campaign two of my PCs, a Bard and a critical role gunslinger, gained companions who are love interests for their respective PCs.
I'm not entirely sure how comfor...
I'm planning a lich as a BBEG villain in an upcoming adventure. I want it to be possible for the party to find the phylactery before facing the lich, as well as discovering how to destroy it.
If they manage to learn where it is and how to destroy it, and do so before facing the lich, would dest...
