...is there a way to tell Google Maps to ignore a road?

@BESW i don't know of one, but you can click+drag on the path to tell google maps to go via another point, but it'll send you back to that road if it thinks it's part of an optimal route.

but seriously, you can click+drag the turn points to a place that you want to go through

so, yeah, I tried rerouting my usual commute on gmaps because it doesn't take into account the current underpass construction in the chokepoint I usually go through, and it keeps sending me back to that chokepoint, you have to redirect it at every turn

Okay, no, if I tell it a different set of directions it's fine with letting me change from the road that hasn't been a through-way for years.

But if I want to go to the Agana Shopping Mall, it can't imagine any other route.

@daze413 Even when it was a road, it was a poorly-maintained mostly-dirt one-lane road only used by people who live on it. There's a better-maintained village road and a four-lane major road which would both be faster and easier despite not being literally straighter as-the-crow-flies.

@BESW Tried putting in reviews for roads in google, it doesn't handle those, apparently. So I decided to review and fact check a whole bunch of places in my locality out of frustration

yeah Google Maps/Earth has horrendously outdated maps of Guam

It's better than it used to be, but... yeah.

Interesting. There's a new road that cuts through most of the traffic in a provincial area here, I'll try looking for it to see how updated google is

it may or may not be really well updated

I suspect a lot of places in the States actually are updated way better

but Guam has been an afterthought for a lot of people for a long time

in fact, now that I look around a bit, there are a ton of things that have changed in that area that I had not even bothered to notice before

so yeah, very outdated images

I'm less worried about the images than about the actual data on things like whether roads are dead-ends.

Follow the instructions Google gives you. Walk down the road no longer there. Cross the forest, it is not on the map, it is only in your mind. Turn clockwise three times, then spit on the ground - it's the shorter route, you'll save five minutes. Approach the ring of standing stones. You have arrived at your destination.

@BESW it's a good app, I can't speak for Guam, but here in the Philippines, it's pretty useful. It relies on community feedback about realtime road... situations (I guess is the word)

@Magician We have a belief here that if you get lost or are trying to go some place that's eluding you despite your efforts, you should turn your shirt upside down. Not sure if the reason was ever given, though

I think it was to trick the malicious spirits who are trying to get you lost into thinking you're not the same person? So they'd leave you alone [citation needed]

Saw possibly the finest use of a spell ever tonight.

Playing 5e Sunless Citadel; party snuck through level 1, convinced a goblin to lead them down to level 2 on the condition that the party "deal with" the druid down there. (This goblin had ideas that the druid was bad for the tribe.) They dealt with the druid, and were looking at "how do we get back out--we've just killed the druid that the rest of the tribe follows. If we somehow get through the goblins, there's still the kobolds we told we'd help deal with the goblins."

So they make their way back to L1, find that the tribe's in turmoil/schism-mode, impressively dispatch the leaders of one goblin faction, and try to convince the rest of the goblins to fight with them against the kobolds.

Boom. 'e's got the goblins.

@daze413 I think you meant "Deity" but that just gives me the idea of a "Plead Extraplanar Diety" spell. It gives you diet and nutrition advice from an extraplanar entity aligned with your god, or maybe your god themselves. Followers of Kord are prone to getting entities who are extremely enthusiastic about steak and protein shakes, but also stern that you gotta eat your vegetables and fruit and ensure you have a balanced vitamin intake.

@Szega it's a pretty normal thing to miss. :) there's even study into how people read or scan web pages with their eyes, and it pretty much guarantees people will miss a link like that.

e.g. one of the primary patterns is the "F pattern", in which a user will scan left to right, drop down a bit further, scan left to right again (but less far, like the second bar of the F), then downwards again, etc:

the middle oen has a really distinct F

I want to record myself playing a game on a webcam and I'm not sure what to use.

sorry, I only ever used ones that came with the cam/laptop

@eimyr I've only ever used it for screen capture, but I believe CamStudio has an option to add a webcam feed.

And it's free, which is something I treasure in programs that I only use extremely casually.
