@Adam Man, I hate when you start on an answer and by the time you finish there are 3 others already there

I play D&D by myself in my head while at work :D
add that to your answer @doppelgreener lol
I critical fail a lot :'(

@doppelgreener Look at you with your fancy, categorized, well formatted answer on what DND is like now. :D

And here I am hammering out "Oh oh oh oh oh I have to tell this guy Gencon is a thing." while juggling work duties when I shouldn't even be on here.

@MadMAxJr .... THE CONS

10:14 PM
I am so ready for my two weeks off to attend Gencon.

The number of games I have played would be really measly wihtout cons
but let's not talk about that. Talking about the pros, I get told, is better!

Really eager to attend the "Better roleplay through improv" session with Matt Mercer.

@MadMAxJr Would you begrudge me if I were to talk a bit about conventions in my own answer

@doppelgreener There's nothing stopping you, by all means. I just hope I don't get downvoted again with, "Another post already covered this, you didn't add anything."

@MadMAxJr T_T
... that kinda sucks when that happens

10:18 PM
Yup. Thankfully I get over it in seconds because imaginary internet points mean nothing about who I am and I don't have time to squabble over them in my mid 30s.
So inform the users that cons are a thing, a glorious, expensive, oh god how do I carry all these purchases home, thing.
I'm going to play a few games completely out of my usual element. Eager for that!

@MadMAxJr well ok, my cons are nothing like gencon, more like "RPG days at the local library"

If it has open tables where you can just ask for a seat and play, close enough!
Nice update. Now I can hope that someone sees Gencon mentioned more than once and thinks "Maybe I should see what that's about." Cause it's the best thing ever.

@MadMAxJr i went to one in australia (like, one of the only ones they ever had) and it was kinda small and not that great
but i bought campaign coins there and that was cool

I think they only did AUS a couple times.

and a pirate sword i was told not to take out of the box unless i wanted to get tackled by security
yeah, they did
i've been to PAX though and that thing is ENOOOOORMOOOOOOUUUSSSSSS

10:26 PM
Still I'm all for someone throwing a beacon on the globe and announcing, "ATTENTION GAMERS OF ALL KINDS, GATHER HERE."
Settlers of Catan world championships remains my favorite thing to observe.
Pro golf levels of quiet. Players wearing poker sunglasses. People sweating bullets over trade calls.
And it is time to commute. Farewell for now. Or die trying! (Bonus point if you got that reference.)

FARE THEE WELL
same for me. time to commute ... to bed. to sleep. goodnight!

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in answer, bad keyword with email in answer, email in answer, potentially bad keyword in answer: Is there a way to learn another race's spellcasting techniques through intense study? by Samuel Jason on rpg.SE

11:13 PM
@godskook It's frozen but still exists. Do you want/need it for something?

@nitsua60, no, not really, its just with all the recent conversation on relevant topics, I remembered that and how I had at the time been thinking you were wanting to reply to it, rather than just read it. So I was just checking that it was at least put to -a- use.

hey there @nitsua60 and @eimyr
oh, and hey as well @T.J.L.

Who? What? Where? Oh... Hi!

@KorvinStarmast is it optimizing for pearls?
@KorvinStarmast Given the (relative) success of SoftwareRecs, I've often wondered if some combination of the rpg, arquade, and b&cg communities could maybe make some sort of separate GameRecs.SE work?

11:29 PM
what baffles me is the whole "acceptance or argument" culture that folks new here seem to have been indoctrinated by on many an occasion

It's pretty common on the Internet, for a variety of reasons that have fueled many PhDs.

@BESW yeah -- it seems to be at least something of a byproduct of uncurated internet fora

But see also this conversation:

Pepsi vs Coke, Kirk vs Picard, Republican vs Democrat, RAW vs RAI, Tennant vs Smith, Islam vs Christianity, Edward vs Jacob...

@GreySage Try competing with @Miniman for simple 5e rules-answers! I can't name the number of times I've been on the last sentence of an answer and seen the "there is 1 new answer to this question" banner pop up. I'm like Seinfeld, spitting out "Miniman!" in my pajamas =D
@godskook I should go back and look again; IIRC we were sorta starting up a conversation, but then I headed out on vacation. After I've put the kids to bed....

"I want to run," she cried. "Run to or run from?" her grandma asked. "At." "Ah." Her grandma opened a chest and took out a sword. "Here."

@NautArch Personally, I think that wanting to answer a question with a RAF answer is just fine, but people should head into it with a realization that it's a higher degree-of-difficulty than more-straightforward approaches. I mean, we're the type that argue over words in black and white--how much more so when your support is your notion of what's "fun" and you know voters are each coming by with different notions of that.

@nitsua60 RAF?

"Rules as fun"
I.e. "we should subvert what the rules say if it interferes with our (locally-defined notion of) fun."
At least, that's my understanding.

@nitsua60 I'm flattered, but I imagine that hasn't happened much lately.

See also: Rule of Cool.
@Miniman Well, I haven't answered much lately =)

Yeah, the amount of support an answer needs depends on the kind of answer it is.

11:43 PM
@nitsua60 If it helps, I'm always happy to see an answer from you pop up :P

@Miniman A couple of years back, when the low-hanging fruit of 5e simple rules questions were flying in... There were times I despaired ever snagging that "enlightened" badge =D

Prepping my next RPG, stealing some group character creation ideas from @EvilHatOfficial, but running @SJGames rules. #GURPSFATEISGO
