Cat was knocking on my door.
But he clearly didn't expect me to actually open it. When I did he tore halfway across the house.

a
sorry, I was trying something :)
@AllisonC biggest argument on dry food is that it is cheaper and takes less space to store. Always have a healthy quantity of dry food at home, in case there is a shortage or something. Because of the covid isolations, cat food shortage is actually a thing in USA.

@C.Koca I didn't know cats live off toilet paper ;)

@C.Koca Yep, that's the only real argument. It's cheap and easy to store long-term. I do have some dry food in my emergency supplies (which means I have to keep them securely locked up so no one eats through the bag). I try to keep some extra wet on hand too, in case the kind I buy is sold out at the time I buy it (but that's more an issue of "people buy lots of it at once and I might be the unlucky one who gets there second")
@JacobJones My vet does a twice-annual general exam that includes assessment of dental health; last year they were saying they'll probably need cleanings soon, the most recent exam a few months ago is when they recommended starting them, so they'll get one the next time they're in. (The younger one, 3, isn't being recommended yet.)
14:20
@Elmy I guess it is more about personnel isolating themselves so supply chain has some gaps :)
I have around 3 kg dry food and 40 sachets of wet food for a single cat. I never go down 2 kg dry food and 10 sachets wet food
Anyway, I have an important question. I think sonny's tail or leg got squeezed into door hinge. He gave a cry I never heard of. Later, I calmed him down, he came to me and let me examine him. No injury, no seemingly broken bones or tail. I was closing the door slowly, like it would slightly bump against his bum so it was not a forceful event. There is no loss of mobility, he still jumps from place to place. He has a strong appetite, especially as sorry as I am, I made the dry food unlimited for the time being :)
15:01
It probably hurt at the time and he kinda probably likes the attention :D
I would say no unless there's any obvious issue
@JourneymanGeek Thanks!
I'll keep monitoring
Alternately, take him to the vet so he's unhappy and thus doesn't learn the standInClosingDoors = moreAttention behaviour. :P
15:25
lol
Not all pets hate the vet. Ash didn't mind his regular. Apparently he was a handful the one time we needed to leave him for observation tho

Agreed, keep an eye on him, maybe give your vet a call for reassurance or what to look out for. Tails get pinched sometimes, but if there's no visible injury and he doesn't react like there's an internal injury when you feel around the area, he's probably going to be fine :)
16:47
also, if his gait is odd, taking a video of it as he's odd gaiting is useful
It dose't seem to be but....
17:15
Thanks everyone!
He doesn't act in any way out of ordinary. He let me touch all parts of his tail and his hind legs and he didn't seem jumpy at any particular spot. He didn't get more annoyed than usual
@Sarov I tried negative feedback with the cat and miserably failed. It is actually a good story.
Oh?
I let the cat get out from the window at night but sometimes he wanted to get out from the door
And while I am sleeping, he scratches the door. It is a very heavy fire door so it makes a sound like scratching metal with metal
Of course I wake up, I get groggy
I tried to act like I am not hearing but he was very patient
He once kept doing it for half an hour
And I decided that whenever he scratches the door, I will hold him tight and cuddle against his will
Of course, this made me very happy for the time being, I had a legitimate reason to cuddle the cat :)
But later he learnt something from the behaviour. He now knows that whenever he scratches the door, forceful cuddles are coming
So he should have stopped scratching the door, right?
WRONG!
He scratches the door and runs under the bed to avoid the cuddle
Now, I can't even let him out and go back to sleep
I open the door, he is under the bed, anticipating a cuddle. Whenever I close the door and go back to bed, he safely emerges under the bed, to scratch the door more
Long story short, if he were to take something out of taking to vet after tail pinching is that he would hide too well if he injures his tail again :)
18:06
What... what's the point of scratching the door then?!

5 hours later…
23:28
@Sarov No idea. I think he now scratches for the hell of it :)
Little jerk.
But he gets out if you were to hold the door open long enough
He has to believe I am not going to grab and cuddle the hell out of him :)
