@Sarov Haha thanks for submitting me with evidence: I knew, I knew it that "chom-chom" isn't a thing! I was just embarrassed to admit not knowing some clever reference that I expected, and now it turns out it is just made up! :D I also prefer food with subtle taste, but Cavendish bananas lack something more for me, they just taste like sweet sweet garbage fruits.
@JourneymanGeek Okay but you unfroze it and I didn't want to be rude by freezing it again; and if we just freeze it then we would be back to square one, and the Meta post was about explicitly broadcasting that the room is obsolete and effectively defunct, together with removing the reference from Litter Box description.
@JourneymanGeek Okay thanks for encouragement, but still I would be uncomfortable with doing such things on my own without consulting anyone :D but we technically had the discussion and my impression was that they agree to broadcast it as obsolete, so if anybody disagrees then my changes can be harmlessly undone later.
room topic changed to The Litter Box: General discussion for pets.stackexchange.com. Pet pictures and gifs welcome. Oneboxes are awesome! Please read pets.meta.stackexchange.com/q/2338 for more information about the recent changes in this room's usage; thanks. [pets]
@JourneymanGeek Okay then I am deleting this chat room as well, it was nice and all but enough is enough, byeeee... ^.^ (I'm kidding of course, don't hate me please :D)
@JourneymanGeek Oh okay, then I know what you are talking about, long time ago I was scrolling and scrolling Litter Box for at least 2 hours and reading things.
@lila apparently there are still a few surviving Gros Michel trees out there, but it can't be a viable mass market cultivar again. At least there's artificial banana flavor! (which I can eat, unlike real banana)
@Stephie I personally was too young to conciously experience any of that, but just by listening to my parents and other people around me, I learned the same biases.
@SerenaT Uhm... Battle of the Plains of Abraham, some stuff with Louis Riel (considered a hero or a murderous tyrant depending on where you are), the war of 1812... yeah that's all I remember.
Plus the basic stuff on Hitler and the Nazis. Oh, and we covered Eichmann in a uni class on evil.
I'm honestly not sure at this point. Could be either. I know I've forgotten some, but I don't know how much my lack of knowledge is lack of interest and how much lack of teaching. Too long ago.
I see. I am just interested since we had loaaads of history in all kinds of subjects. We also did a lot of history in language subjects and even in science subjects. And obviously history class itself
The thing with Louis Riel was weird. He was a wanted criminal but was still given a vote in parliament. So he snuck in and voted then snuck away before anyone noticed he was there.
They also tried to stuff comp sci history into my head during comp sci classes (which is weird. How does knowing that the first computer bug was a moth help me debug?), but the only other thing I remember is that Grace Hopper was an army admiral and also invented COBOL.
But yeah. "Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it" - citation needed.
@Sarov Haha, same here. I had to learn the names of various graphics cards of all things... The first monochrome, the first 8 bit color and stuff like that.
@Sarov Oh god, I had to do math calculations in hex... never understood why. Would have been more effective to teach me how to write a hex calculator...
@Sarov Well, we had to do the same stuff in binary, too XD. I vaguely remember something like "01 + 10 = 01 OR 10" and "01 - 10 = 01 AND 10" but I could be completely wrong
thinking back now, I think it was mainly to make us get used to the systems
That one sorta-kinda makes sense, because that's a GPU works in bits, so knowing binary math could be handy if you're working super low level, maybe. But hex?
Wait, "01 - 10 = 01 AND 10" is wrong. "01 - 10" is negative-one. "01 & 10" is zero.
(Bitwise and/or actually can be useful. I actually used it once professionally)
It's handy for enums. If you make their values powers of two, you can bitwise-or them to combine them. For example: Red = 1 Blue = 2 Yellow = 4 Purple = 3 Orange = 5 Green = 6 Black = 7
And then in code, var purple = MyColour.Red | MyColour.Blue;
@motosubatsu I made this for you and by the way, could you tell me what specifically made you come back to Pets chat after a long time? Having your answer would help me confirm/doubt one of my theories about this chat's activity in recent times, thanks.
@lila Oh and you may have noticed that I have not suggested an edit for a little bit, I just figured that I am nearing the threshold to automatically edit, and I could just wait until then.
@Nai54 Do not worry it is all under control, the prosecutor has been already notified about what you did with this post, the police is already on its way to talk with you (I am kidding, don't hate me please :D)
@Nai54 I mean, I do not know why this happened but it is all just illusion, please click on "Side-by-side Markdown" instead of "Inline" or "Side-by-side" and you will see what did you in fact modify and that it is all phatamorgana.
@Nai54 Of course I noticed and I started to worry a little that, for example, you started to dislike one particular reviewer of these edits... yes I know you will reach the threshold soon, of course I am happy for this, but on the other hand I really liked being part of this process, rarely does anybody suggest an edit.
@Nai54 It happens to me from time to time, not exactly the same case as yours, but the same general essence: markdown formatting lying about what I changed, and this is mega annoying and I do not know why this happens :/
@lila Oh yeah, sorry about that. Similar on Writing SE, I can review edits but no ever suggests them :( maybe I'll suggest a few edits here on Pets just for fun ;)
@Nai54 It is I guess controversial, but I knew somebody would ask about this: I suspect that Joseph's actions were major reason for the revival of this chat room :o
@Nai54 No need to apologize, but just from my opinion: it seems a little wasteful to wait until passing 1000 points with post-related points if you could instead use suggestion-related points to pass 1000 points and then continue to inflate over 1000 points with post-related points; in reverse it does not work because you stop getting to suggest after passing 1000 (approval of pending suggestions still gives you +2 even if you are already over 1000, but you cannot suggest new ones).
@lila I am realizing now that I am being a bit of a hypocrite because I said that in order for posts to qualify for the spring cleaning post they must have an upvote but I just added one of my answers with 0 votes... should I take it off?
@lila So... If you had >1000 rep, you could gain more rep by being suspended, suggesting a bunch of edits (since you are at 1 rep) and then having their approval recalculated when the suspension ends?
@Nai54 For me it is okay because writing posts is a lot of constant conscious creative effort for me, and sometimes they hang there with 0/0 and a few hours of writing and formatting ends up in disappointment; suggestions are more relaxed and "braindead", browser spell check does a lot of work for me, if I did good job then it is guaranteed +0.2 upvotes.
@Sarov Hahahaha I am amazed by you creative imagination about trying to find a loophole, but I sadly think that suspension (the one that makes you temporarily 1 points) blocks you from all actions, including sugegsting edits :D
@Nai54 Haha maybe, but on the other hand maybe please wait a while because I haven't yet read the activity from recent ~2h and maybe it will get upv*ted soon :D
@Nai54 Of course; also, no asking for edit suggestion review, suuuuuuuuure :D
(I'm kidding, I'm kidding, yes I know)
@Nai54 Mine is okay, but nothing too fancy and I have been feeling the weather change (in terms of mild creeping headache) since the last 2-3 hours or so, but I have just taken pain-go-awayers so I hope it goes away soon. And you?
@Nai54 yes, but disapproved edit does not give 0.2 of a downv*te.
@lila Feeling good, bit sore from exercise yesterday
@lila Well, yes, but I have 1 rejected edit (by accident I believe) and 0 downvotes (or downv*te as you would say ;) ) so that doesn't seem like a big deal
@Nai54 It was accident and I apologized because it was me but I did it on accident: pets.stackexchange.com/questions/29966/… in short, I clicked edit and started editing the post, and before I finished, you submitted your suggestion, then by clicking "save" it made the robot reject your suggestion.
@Nai54 No, please leave it in the list. (I always insert my answers as soon as I finished writing them, the upvotes will come in their own time XD). I completely trust that you'll get at least 1 upvote
@Elmy Oh! I didn't even realize we were at the end of the campaign. Went by quick. Maybe I can squeeze in one more answer from the 172 questions closed:no answers:0 [dogs]
Well, you're very welcome to have a look at the unanswered questions once in a while. I thought about extending the campaign because it didn't start at the 1st of April, though. What do you tink? End it tomorrow or extend it to a full 30 days?
On the Q&A post it says "let's see how much we can improve till the end of the month" and from the beginning I assumed it is till 30 April, I think extending is good idea but for organization purposes I would just conclude the existing spring cleaning campaign and open a brand-new, second campaign (to make it thematic, I suggest making it "International Workers' Day cleaning campaign"... yes I'm kidding with that last bit of course) :D
@lila Hmm, maybe we could start themed campaigns once in a while, but I would wait a while after this one. If there's always one "event" after the next, it would lose it's novelty and I'm afraid people would lose interest
Agree with @Elmy. We could do a different campaign every other month?
Like this month was spring cleaning we get a month break, and then next month gets a "retagging theme" (that wouldn't be a good idea - just an example) then break, and then something like how many cat questions can be asked and answered?
@Elmy Let's end it tomorrow. We did a lot, and for consistency's sake we should end it at the end of the month.
OK, if I don't hear an overwhelming demand to extend spring cleaning, I'll post the results and a summary in approx. 14 - 16 hours (read: when I had enough time to wade through statistics tomorrow).
@Elmy Sleepy sleepy good night, sleepy sleepy turn of the light, good dreams unravel bad dreams unravel you are going on dreamsland's travel, good dreams unravel weird dreams unravel see you again in dreamland's travel.
@Nai54 It is a song/lullaby that I came up with a few months ago, I used to "sing" (actually, just post) it on Awkward Silence channel before going to sleep, each day adding a new verse, it was a bit longer that I posted here but that is as much as I remember.
@Nai54 Okay I found the full version, it was over half a year ago, I used to post this before going sleep and look, all of those are actually normal go-to-sleep hours! :D chat.stackexchange.com/…
@Sarov Hahahaha of course, then Summer Cleaning Event after a few years that will be about shortening all those overgrown Spring Cleaning [Event Finished]x345678 Event :D
