@YvetteColomb They're kind of a pest here, not a severe one and people generally let them live where they are. We do have deer hunt seasons, but they're about keeping the population controlled so there's strict limits in most areas.
In some areas last year they had an unlimited hunt with certain requirements; those areas were identified with chronic wasting disease, so the unlimited hunt was meant to cull as many CWD deer as possible to prevent it from spreading out to other parts of the state.

@AllisonC yep that's better than just culling them for the sake of it. They shoot animals from helicopters and leave them to die on the ground here. It's all sorts of wrong

I don't have a problem with people hunting for food - it's the attitude of this animal is a pest - so kill it, without any real thought of a better solution - like hunting!
