Q: My dog acts afraid of me after playtime

homegrownI have an almost 2 yr old red nose pitbull mixed with boxer and lab (possibly?) who is the sweetest, most playful thing you ever met. My wife and I take turns playing with her twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening after we get off work. We have to play with her like that becaus...

@Henders wow that was quick :)
@Zaralynda nice :)

Q: Elderly next door neighbor and her elderly dog aggression issues

JorgeMy next door neighbor lives alone and I would guess that she is in about her mid to late 60's. She has a husky who is 13 years old. As of about 2 weeks ago, it came to my attention that her dog has suddenly become aggressive. She claims that the dog has recently acquired arthritis, yet she con...

Q: Why are my old cat's pupils always dilated?

DarenWMy cat is probably around 25 years old. She still has decent vision, hearing, jumps up onto my chair, no apparent arthritis or any other health issues. The vet said she's fine. The only odd thing is here eyes are always dilated. My apartment tends to be dark, but even if I take her outside dur...

Q: How accurately can the age of an older cat, at 20+ years, be determined?

DarenWObviously we don't want to cut her in half to count tree rings! But a core sample would be the exactly the thing to do, if she were a tree. My best estimate for this cat's age is 25. She was found as a stray by a kid who is now doing well in business over two decades later. There is no origina...

Q: Why do my cats drop their toys in their water bowl?

atirasI have two young cats (a male and a female, litter mates, 19 months old) who have developed an intriguing behaviour that I haven't seen in any other cats before. Without fail, when I come downstairs in the morning, one of them has dropped a toy mouse into their (ceramic) water bowl. They don't d...

Q: My elderly cat is poorly

angi rosemy elderly cat middy is out of sorts. he seems to be breathing faster, he is eating slowly and poorly and his backbone feels more prominent. He finds the car journey to vet very distressing and I'm wondering if I should give it a bit longer to see if he rallies. I would appreciate some advice....

@CeilingCat What to do with a question like this? It's very specific. Can we make it more general to help future viewers?
Thoughts, @YvetteColomb, @RebeccaRVT, @Zaralynda
10:01
@Henders I'm crook atm - but have some concerns also - when I'm feeling a bit better I'll look at it again also
You are crook? o.O
Is that like ill?
If so, get well soon :)

@YvetteColomb you have my flu! Im still coughing up a storm over here lol
hides away from the ill people
:P
@Henders which question? The elderly cat one?
Yeah
Let me see
I could see a response to body scoring your cat kind of thing, if his backbone is prominent hes losing a sickly amount of weight and should be seen sooner rather than later
11:59
I guess that's kind of what I mean, if we can make it more general in terms of the actual problem and a proposed solution.
12:12
Lol its like that kidney disease, broken leg cat
@Henders there's several conditions there that we have individual questions for
I'm adding comment links to them
@Zaralynda Nice, thanks :)
@RebeccaRVT Yeah, just give it garlic, right? :P
The magic cure (that doesn't work) to everything :P
I'm also writing an answer about how to reduce stress during/around a vet visit (home visits, cat friendly practices, blankets, etc).
Oh nice
Yeah I think the more that we can split into separate issues, the easier it is to mark up dupes

We don't have a question on eating poisoned rodents, that I could find
I'm upset that this ridiculous apple cider vinegar answer was posted ON MY BIRTHDAY. The nerve of people.

Q: How can I help my cat with chronic congestion and sneezing?

redpennerWe got our cat as a kitten; she's now 12. When we got her, she had a bad upper respiratory virus. She was so congested at one point, we had to hold her upside-down to get the mucus to drain out of her so she could breathe. She survived the virus, but ever since then she's had a bad problem wit...

Lol never heard of apple cider vinegar haha
@RebeccaRVT I had skin irritation due to an allergic reaction (something in the water at the new house, I had to add a filter to the shower), and was told to drink ACV daily to stop the reaction
people who believe in ACV will tell you it's a cure for EVERYTHING
Erm... This isn't an answer, is it? pets.stackexchange.com/a/17957/6826
I believe in putting a gallon of ACV in a crockpot with a pork shoulder and cooking it all day, but that's all it's good for
@Henders it looks like an answer to me
it's pretty much, you're doing everything that you can
I think that question should have been marked as a dup, but we can't with the bounty pets.stackexchange.com/questions/174/…
But the question is "How to reduce or contain?"
@Zaralynda Oh yeah, that's definitely a dupe
Worth flagging anyway, right?
13:02
I don't know, you can to see what the community thinks (I am not a dog person, but cats shed too)
reduce - groom frequently
reduce - improve diet
reduce - vet visit to check for health problem
seems like it answers the question to me
Fair enough, I wondered because it basically repeats whats in the question and just adds 'It might be a shedder' which seemed a little hollow to me :P
Glad you guys are here to keep me on track (:
Lol I find you keep everyone on track with edits, flags etc. On the ball
I'll probably improve on the shedding question - some things could be added
I'm just used to StackOverflow which is much more strict (because it gets so much more activity) so I need to calm down a bit here I think :P
No it's a good thing!
that stuff builds up lol
13:13
@RebeccaRVT you are so sharing and caring!!! :D I'm going back to bed - just popped in, cos I'm addicted O>O
@YvetteColomb LOL anytime bb
13:28
@RebeccaRVT yes, there's definitely things that could be added! It's not a good answer, but it's an answer

WillMy Friend rex the dog who lives with my neighbour barks his little stubby head off from 4-5:30 pm every day when he knows his owner is coming home. During the day he lives in the yard, waiting. How can balboa be taught not to bark and bark and bark and bark....

Q: How can I encourage my bird to eat fresh food?

jackwiseAbout a month ago I adopted a bird. Her previous owners didn't feed her anything besides pellets and the occasional bit of meat (which I personally don't want to feed her since meat these days is full of hormones). I have been able to feed her bits of fruit & sunflower seeds from my hands, but ...

Q: Finding best substrate for my 40 gal turtle tank

sqlcheckpointcould someone suggest the best substrate for my turtle tank. I'm planning to have a medium sized gravel so turtles can't swallow them. Any suggestions or recommendations are really helpful to me.
