9:14 AM
Greetings!!

Hello, hello! :)

I have an unusual pet to share with you today...

ooo, intriguing !

9:31 AM
The banded mongoose (Mungos mungo) is a mongoose commonly found in the central and eastern parts of Africa. It lives in savannas, open forests and grasslands and feeds primarily on beetles and millipedes. Mongooses use various types of dens for shelter including termite mounds. While most mongoose species live solitary lives, the banded mongoose live in colonies with a complex social structure. == Physical characteristics == The banded mongoose is a sturdy mongoose with a large head, small ears, short, muscular limbs and a long tail, almost as long as the rest of the body. Animals of wetter areas...
In the photo, he is licking up what's left of ice-cream cake.

@RichieACC Oh wow! Where was that?

It's a pet of the owners of a holiday resort that I like to go to.
I got a great video of him and me playing. I'll put it on YouTube this evening. I was too tired last night

Wow, imagine keeping one of those as a pet :P

Been there, done that. They're amazing

You kept a mongoose?!

9:41 AM
We were living on a farm. My brother and cousin went hiking in the woods, and found the baby mongoose abandoned. He was newly born, umbilical cord still fresh. So they brought him home and my mom hand-reared him.
The marsh mongoose or water mongoose (Atilax paludinosus) is a medium-sized mammal, though large for a mongoose. Its weight can range from 2 to 5.5 kg (4.4 to 12.1 lb), with an average range of 2.5 to 4.1 kg (5.5 to 9.0 lb). From the head to the base of the tail, these animals range from 44 to 62 cm (17 to 24 in), with the tail adding 25–36 cm (9.8–14.2 in). It is a member of the mongoose family and the only member of its genus. Atilax paludinosus is found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with a preference for permanent freshwater habitats bordered by dense vegetation, such as marshes, reed beds...
He was one of those

Wow, did it get released again or was it too humanised?

Sad story...
Our animals got poisoned. We suspect by would-be burglars.

....
@RichieACC Oh god

In one night we lost 5 dogs, I can't even remember how many cats, and the mongoose.

I'm sorry man

9:44 AM
Oh wow, that's terrible :(
I've never understood why someone would do that. Sure, steal my stuff if you have to but don't take a life (lives) just for the hell of it. Despicable.

@Henders some people do it because they think humans shouldnt keep pets
or because they find pets annoying

@Magisch they'd kill humans for a buck too

The red-knobbed coot or crested coot, (Fulica cristata), is a member of the rail and crake bird family, the Rallidae. It is a resident breeder across much of Africa and in southernmost Spain on freshwater lakes and ponds. It builds a nest of dead reeds near the water's edge or more commonly afloat, laying about 8 eggs (or more in good conditions). However, its behaviour towards its own young is so aggressive that only a few are likely to survive to adulthood. == Description and identification == The red-knobbed coot is largely black except for the white frontal shield. It is 38–45 cm (15–18 in...

I thought that was a baby moorhen not a coot :P

9:48 AM
Over here, especially on farms, dogs are kept mainly as guards rather than pets. So killing the dogs eliminates one layer of security to gain access to the property.

Are those Egyptian geese as well?

@Henders You can see Mommy right on the left of the photo
@Henders Indeed!

They look very like moorhen babies :p
@Magisch Yeah, true I guess. Still, I don't see why the pet should suffer in either of those scenarios :(

I have a video of them as well. There's a mommy and a daddy, and an older sibling, who keep close distance to the baby.

Heh, so cute
So tiny and fluffy

9:51 AM
"Aww, cute puppy!!"

JAD
@RichieACC is that a snake, or are you happy to see me?

"okay, see-ya, bye"

@JAD That's more than 3 words.

JAD
shush

:P
I don't think I'd like a pet that could eat me while I'm sleeping.

9:54 AM
Egyptian goslings with their mother

JAD
@Henders turns out humans are kinda tricky to eat for snakes
especially if you have broad shoulders

10:06 AM
Hmm, what if they start at the bottom first though. They'll only realise that when they've nearly eaten me!

JAD
oh yeah
it's not gonna help you either way

Ah, so tricky but that won't stop them?

JAD
well, it's not like they know they can't do it

True

JAD
and tbh, it depends a bit on orientation

10:08 AM
By the time I've been struck by an anaconda, I think I won't be in the best state anyway...

JAD
exactly
by the time they start eating you're fucked :P
so the thing is
the mouth can open very wide, but they can only control opening further up/down, but not really left/right
that just happens during eating
so if they're eating, they have a lot of trouble getting past the shoulders if they're oriented horizontally

Shudders

JAD
no
shoulders

groaaannnnn
Man, we have some terrible jokes in here :P

JAD
;)

10:39 AM
hehehe, that's what keeps us coming back

It certainly gives me a good opportunity to groan a lot :P

1 hour later…
11:45 AM
@RichieACC What snake is this?

Green Anaconda, isn't it?
(says the guy who knows nothing about snakes)
@JourneymanGeek - How's Ash's leg doing? Haven't heard for a while

@Henders he gained weight again :p

Bah! Your dad's fault? :p

@Magisch I have as much information about this photo as you.

JAD
11:48 AM
@Henders yep
if it looks more like a whale than a snake, it's probably an anaconda

@JourneymanGeek solution: tiny treadmill :p

Even a regular treadmill. Dogs love it

JAD
@RichieACC why stop there, take them to cross-fit!

He hates it. We tried :p

@JAD lol, but then I have to run as well.

JAD
12:03 PM
@JourneymanGeek sounds like a good negative reinforcement to eating too much :P

@JAD ehhh.
I don't blame him

JAD
lol I know

12:29 PM
I don't like those things either

1:06 PM
It's also difficult if someone keeps feeding your tasty treats

JAD
@Henders that's usually how it goes wrong

Q: some people let their pets like dog lick their face is that safe?

RashkRizwanMany people let their pets like dog lick their face and lips is that safe or any serious problem in this case.

1:54 PM
@CeilingCat 'Let them'? lol In many cases, it's impossible to stop them without resorting to firearms and/or armour:)

JAD
2:05 PM
is it safe? depends, how worried about hygiene are you?

dog's mouths are remarkably clean in comparison to humans
is certainly safer then kissing a human unless your dog is sick

2:20 PM
@MartinJames so true
There's a handful of... enthuiastic greeters at the dog park.
(and there's princess, who licks my nose exactly once)

Q: What is that in my red-eared slider's wound?

Ken TFirst Question I have taken a photo of her wound today (see the first figure below). You can see there is a dark pink thing. Does anyone know what it is? Is it pus or a scab? Second Question This wound has already been there for almost a month. I had taken her to a vet for consultation since I...

Q: Rottweiler vs Presa Canario vs Cane Corso vs Bull Mastiff: How to choose?

Censored to protect the guiltyI am trying to figure out why a person would choose one of the breeds above over the others. Any way I look at it the Rottweiler looks like the better option - smarter and more energetic. And still people choose the other breeds sometimes, they are nowhere near going extinct. What am I missing ...
