@TheEvilPhoenix How do i 'Invite' you in launchpad?
@Amithkk define "invite" me
Allowing you to acess and modifiy my PPA's
are they your own personal ones?
or part of a team's?
Personal :D
how can i change it to "Team"
lemme ask the launchpad pros on their IRC channel
oh change it to team?
you cant
you'd need to create a team yourself
and then create a PPA
and add me to that team
but lemme ask the LP pros
17:33
@Amithkk: You had a question?
(About JetHTTP or something...)
@GeorgeEdison Can i get a custom versuon for JetHTTP?
@Amithkk What do you need?
@Amithkk you can theoretically give me write access, but that would be done via shared PGP keys
according t o the lp pros
@GeorgeEdison he's trying to create an instant-installer of XBMC
or w/e the thing is called
@GeorgeEdison Something like a PHP Web server that runs each time XBMC is started
@TheEvilPhoenix XBOCI
@Amithkk JetHTTP does support PHP.
17:35
whatever >.>
@GeorgeEdison I need a custom version that i can stick in my PPA
@Amithkk you're better off creating a team and then adding me to the team
then my PGP keys will be useable
@Amithkk: I still don't get it...
...you want to stick it in your PPA?
@GeorgeEdison Yes
@GeorgeEdison he wants a copy to fix the inter-ppa dependencies issue
which i said is not a polite thing to have
17:39
I see.
and also
if you're going to stick @George's stuff in your PPA, you might run into problems.
Are you using the GUI or console version?
Ah.. Maybe a a team
having said that, I can't work with your PPA because shared PGP keys are evil :P
@GeorgeEdison None still
17:39
@Amithkk: Which one do you want to use?
@Amithkk you able to make a PPA?
create a PPA on the team and we can all write to it
Done!
so wait @Amithkk, what do you want the .deb to do, place the xbmc files somewhere?
if that's the case i can write that
if there's an install procedure
it might be more tricky
jrg
jrg
@TheEvilPhoenix @Amithkk Perhaps you want to move to another room? :)
17:44
icanhasowner @jrg?
jrg
jrg
hangon hangon.
i've moved there :P
Innedztobeownertoo @jrg
</banificate>
jrg has added Amith kk to the list of this room's owners.
17:45
@MarcoCeppi Teh messages have to be moved!
jrg has added The Evil Phoenix to the list of this room's owners.
indeed they do
many many messages :P
jrg
jrg
Happy? ;)
@GeorgeEdison could move them too :P
Yep
Now
NOt sure which to move
jrg
jrg
Nothing personal, just figured you guys needed a separate room. :)
Just all?
We need to invite @George
@Marco all the ones relating to @Amithkk's packaging project
perhhaps @Amithkk can provide you a list of links
i gave him a link
17:47
Hello!
Hello
now were talking
jrg
jrg
Odd. I can't give @GeorgeEdison ownership.
@jrg he has auto ownership
I can :P
17:48
It doesn't matter... I don't need it.
jrg
jrg
Oh. Forgot about that. mod powahs
Mods cannot be "appointed"
he has GOD STATUS on the chat :P
2
anyways. :p
jrg
jrg
Alright, I'll leave you guys alone. Have fun. ;)
So what can I help with?
17:49
61 messages moved from Ask Ubuntu General Room
@GeorgeEdison Now i was trying to use Apache but itll be too much for such a small thing
Right - I'm glad you've decided to give JetHTTP a go.
It's not perfect, but it's small and compact.
So.. I hoped that you will be able to get me a JetHTPP Made for this purpose
Well, I'll help you decide between the GUI and console versions.
now we'd have to kinda work jointly, @GeorgeEdison
17:50
What features do you need?
In short:
@GeorgeEdison @Amithkk would want it packaged for his PPA, I'd have to package XBMC
which i have nfc how to set up
:/
@TheEvilPhoenix Just i need to get permission from Team XBMC
then you can make a Metapackage
17:51
once you get that we can continue
So it looks like that application needs PHP.
there's no xbmc package in the standard repos
i checked
?
They anit replying
@Amithkk when packaging, you need to assume that the user won't have custom PPAs other than yours
I have to be honest with you upfront: JetHTTP's PHP support has been tested to a small extent and isn't guaranteed to work perfectly...
....just so you're aware.
17:53
@Amithkk as such all dependencies must be either in standard repos or in your PPA
@GeorgeEdison :P I run apache2, lighttpd, and nginx, so bleh
Im seeing to that
apache2 locally on this machine
for testing of stuff
lighttpd and nginx on other systems/servers
So lightttpd would work?
cba to configure it
apache2 and its php modules work ootb
lighttpd and nginx both require a tad of config to make php work
So what do you need help with now?
Copying the package to a PPA?
17:54
@GeorgeEdison Yes
and creating a metapacage
I can do that for you.
i can create the metapackage :P
if we absolutely have to
17:55
Are you using Natty?
@TheEvilPhoenix And Just so you know that HTTP-R doesent work OOTB
@GeorgeEdison Yep
see i asked this before :P
@Amithkk indeed
8
Q: How to create a meta-package that automatically installs other packages?

The Evil PhoenixI'd like to be able to create a package that doesnt contain any code or programs itself, but instead installs other packages that exist in the repositories onto a computer, sort of how the ubuntu-restricted-extras package does?

however you'll have to explain the config process
The config needs to change
Done.
It's in your PPA now.
because it'd be easier to provide the install stuff then have the user modify the config manually
17:57
(Hopefully that's the right version... I have several.)
heh
@Amithkk what config needs to be done to make the thing work?
i ask because that determines the method of packaging
Im doing it
i.e. the postinst script
ok
@TheEvilPhoenix Nah i just have to modifiy the zip file :d
:P
modify the files, zip it up, send me the zip
i'll unzip before packaging. then the question is
where do you want the package to install the xbmc files to?
17:59
@TheEvilPhoenix to the root folder of teh webserver
that varies greatly
127.0.0.1 is localhost right?
between webservers and configs
@TheEvilPhoenix I mean the root folder of the website (/var/www/ for apache)
as i said
it varies greatly
you assume its going to run on apache
18:01
I assume itll woek on JetHTTP :D
lighttpd and nginx don't by default use /var/www/ as their root
well if we force the use of JetHTTP, then ask @George here what the default webserver root is
but usually packages shouldn't write to /var/www usually
i can make it write there, but meh
Uploading
@GeorgeEdison what's the default webserver root for JetHTTP?
@TheEvilPhoenix Hell i forgot one thing.. XBMC needs to turn on its internal webservir
heh
well
i'm still writing up the dependencies list
i.e. php5 >=5.2.0-1ubuntu1, php5-gd >=5.2.0-1ubuntu1, etc.
because that goes into the control file for Depends: for the package
18:10
@TheEvilPhoenix /var/www
@GeorgeEdison OK.
@Amithkk are we going to use JetHTTP?
Actually for the GUI version, you can change it in the preferences menu.
or Apache?
@GeorgeEdison we just need the default location
@Amithkk yep to what?
JetHTTP?
18:11
yep to JetHTTP
@TheEvilPhoenix I think it's ~/htdocs... but I can't exactly remember...
Lemme check.
I still cant seem to figure out where XBMC puts its HTTP confing
and also remember i need their confirmation that you're allowed to do this :P
Yeah :P
Gotta sleep
Alright?
18:15
i'll also need the XBMC team to give me the copyright info about their project
so that i can include that in the .deb's copyright file
yeah, go sleep. bug me tomorrow.
I can confirm it's /var/www.
Can we continue tomorrow :?
Sure.
See you later.
I think I'll head out too.
18:16
packaging is a pain sometimes
Sorry :)
