Q: What was the theological pamphlet attributed to Thomas Middleton?

TsundokuThe Wikipedia article on Thomas Middleton contains the following claim: Due to a theological pamphlet attributed to him, Middleton is thought by some to have been a strong believer in Calvinism. This statement has no source. Is the title of this pamphlet known or is this attribution based on a ...

Q: Forced marriage in children's fiction?

user21423I'm looking for children's books that include forced marriage. Any time period/genre will do as long as the book was written for children. I'm researching how forced marriage is depicted in children's literature, so even if you don't necessarily love/recommend the book I would still love to hear ...

Q: What is meant by "blue ribbon"?

Allure(Not sure if this should be on English.SE or History.SE) In The Adventure of the Cardboard Box (a Sherlock Holmes short story): "'I was blue ribbon at that time, and we were putting a little money by, and all was as bright as a new dollar. My God, whoever would have thought that it could have co...

Q: Greek myth about an athlete who kills another man with a discus

komodospI was wondering if someone could help me identify this story from Greek (I'm almost certain) legend that I read when I was young (in the 80s or 90s). Anyway, an athlete is competing at the discus, but is such a good thrower, he throws the discus into the spectating crowd and kills a man. I believ...

@Bookworm Rejected exam question: "What is the name of that flat round thing they throw at the Olympics? Discuss."

@Tsundoku Thanks! I keep meaning to do that but then always forgetting.
This Tsundoku guy is good at organising community activities. He should, like, be a mod or something.
I think he didn't run in the last election.
But most of all, these topic challenges are worth maintaining. There are authors I would never have read without them.

@Bookworm 'This was circumvented, however, by Zeus "visiting" her in the form of a shower of golden rain, and thereby fathering Perseus.' That "shower of golden rain" didn't age well during a recent American presidential term and a recent Brazilian presidential term ...
@Tsundoku Hilarious that autocorrect changed "discus" to "discuss", but didn't change "ere" to "were". I suppose it must think that I am a poet or something...
@ClaraDíazSanchez Oh, I wasn't responding to autocorrect issues in the answer. I just remembered a joke by Micky Flanagan on Mock the Week.

@Bookworm Why was the HNQ attributed to Thomas Middleton?

@Adi You're not from Antwerp by any chance? Based on the similarity between your profile picture and that city's logo ;-)

Why do we have a tag?
14:56
@Tsundoku Created by Peter Shor for the Elizabeth Hand question
15:34
@GarethRees That's not what I meant. We don't have tags for Greek epic literature, Greek drama, Greek novels, Greek song lyrics, so why do we have a tag for Greek mythology? and should be sufficient.
Similarly, should be replaced with and .
