@CowperKettle Heh.
I find it much easier to succinctly summarise stories that I didn't enjoy. The Count of Monte Cristo: I read it as a kid, didn't like it, said it's just "man gets wrongfully imprisoned, gets out, takes revenge" and there's nothing else to it. The Lord of the Rings: oof, where to start in summarising that?

@Randal'Thor I think that if we strip the personal-advice portions of the post, there's a good question there, which can be answered objectively, that is, how can someone learn to do literary analysis?
