What's up with people's sudden infatuation with The Sandman?

@NapoleonWilson Shokhet. And Gallifreyan. That's what's up.
Did we get extra room in tags?
Yes we did.

A: Can we increase the maximum tag length?

Shog9This can be increased, but only up to a maximum of 35 characters. This means zen-and-the-art-of-motorcycle-maintenance is right out. I increased the allowed length to 32, thus allowing zen-and-art-of-motorcycle-maint, which should be a little bit easier to recognize. This sort of compromise is ...

@Mithrandir @Hamlet @Shog9 (he's not here but whatever):
@NapoleonWilson Shokhet was reading it for the first time and asking questions about it here. I'm answering them.

@Mithrandir WUUUUUT?!
Like permanently?

@Mithrandir [kaze-no-tani-no-naushika] -> [nausicaa-of-the-valley-of-wind] (the latter being the main tag)
@NapoleonWilson Why would we get a temporary tag length increase?

Well, I don't know. Why would you get one after SE didn't pay the slightest attention to the huge meta discussions asking for this for ages? ;-)
If this thing is real, it's the biggest tag breakthrough since years!

I guess @Hamlet asked very nicely.

@Gallifreyan check it?

7:56 PM
@Mithrandir Yep, you're once again!

8:08 PM
@NapoleonWilson I've been reading it, and Gallifreyan has been answering pretty much every one of my questions about it.
Sorry. I only partly read through chat. It looks like this is the third or fourth time someone's told you this :P

Nah, I've still got 2 or 3 questions left.

@Gallifreyan Trusted user is 4K, right? ...you're at 4,007 right now. Congrats :)
But I'm working on it ;-)
@Mithrandir Oh, nice. Shog edited this question. Someone should add a tag wiki, because that tag is only used on one question atm.
...what happened to the author tag on that question?
But the tag length extension is really cool -- I thought we had literally no chance of getting it. Woohoo!

Now to up it to 35 so I can get my

@Gallifreyan If you drop the dashes you can make it 30.

And it looks bad.

8:15 PM
Why? What's wrong with ? :P
If we could do capital letters in tags it wouldn't be that bad.
DoAndroidsDreamOfElectricSheep. Okay, maybe a little bad.

Stop right there.
Editing tag wikis just like that feels good :D

@Gallifreyan Nice! I was just about to hop into the review queue to approve those edits. Ha.

@Shokhet go ahead :P

Can you get the author tag, too?
@Mithrandir I haven't read it yet. Can I borrow your copy?

@Shokhet What would I write?

8:21 PM
Don't have one :P

And maybe famous books, like :P
@Gallifreyan What we write for any author, I guess. "For questions about the works of Guy de Maupassant and his life as a writer."

Too lazy - if anyone writes it I'll approve it.

Did those messages come out of order? I think the first one didn't send until after the second one did, but it shows in order on my machine. Probably because I wrote them in order. The wifi at school has been a little flaky, recently.

8:50 PM
Did anyone here read The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson (or, perhaps better, have a searchable copy of it)? I'm trying to find a particular passage for a Literature answer, but it is eluding me.

@Shokhet I know where you can find a copy...

@Gallifreyan A legal one?
I have a print copy from the library.
...I'd post without, but it's actually like super-relevant to my answer.

@Shokhet it might be on my Kindle, but I could be mixing it up with something else, and I don't have access to it ATM, so I guess I'm not much help.

@Mithrandir Thanks.
If you get the chance, I'm looking for the part where Elend finally accepts that he can be both a warrior and a scholar. IIRC he doesn't tell Vin about it, but she can tell from the way he carries himself. They may be on a barge when this happens.
Problem is, it's the type of thing that a lot of people might just shoot right past and not notice. There are no explosions or insane fighting moves in that scene, only (huge) character development :/
Oh, I think I found it. It was much earlier than I thought it was.
Or, well, something close enough.

Q: About Sappho's epigram for the Aethiopian kid: first line (manuscript tradition and experts' take), and authorship

MickGAs I am planning to post this poem on my blog relatively soon, I was doing some research on the first line. From what I had written previously, I seem to have found two different versions: Παῖδες, ἄφωνος ἔοισα τόδ' ἐννέπω, αἴ τις ἔραται or: Καίπερ ἄφωνος ἔοισα ποτεννέπω, αἴ τις ἔραται ...

Oh, now I really found it! Thanks anyway, @Mithrandir, @Gallifreyan :)

9:54 PM
phew I'm glad I was finally able to finish and post this.

10:35 PM
