I hope I'm not being too much of a burden on this site...

@Pearsonartphoto What do you mean?
04:43
I just feel like I'm being too negative, that's all.

@Pearsonartphoto Nah, it's all good. Someone's gotta point out problems. :)
15:05
I just wish I had more solutions to go with the problems.
I think I'm about to do something that might shock many meta frequenters. Actually suggest that recommendations might be a good thing.

A: Proposal: make book recommendations off-topic

PearsonartphotoAfter thinking about this for a while, and reading the responses to my recent question, I am thinking that recommendations might work, but following very strict guidelines. The questions must be very specific. Not "What's a good book for a person who likes Harry Potter", but maybe, "What's a go...

I really need to find a way to get 4 more reputation points so that I can downvote questions/ answers...
It's too bad meta votes don't count towards reputation. I'd be doing quite well if that were the case...

Posted as an answer the "Don't allow it at all" answer too, to help flush it out a bit more.

Let's try to agree on a framework right now, either allow recommendations, don't allow them, or allow them with strict guidelines. If the latter is chosen, we'll debate the exact guidelines in another question.

Q: If we allow recommendations, what rules should we place on them?

PearsonartphotoThere is considerable debate in my answer as to what rules should be in place if we allow recommendation questions to take place. This question is to debate what the rules should be, in such an environment that it won't confuse the issue as to if we even want to allow recommendations at all. Not...

It's funny, @Gilles is using my rules as a basis for his set, when my set was based off of his and others comments...
@Pearsonartphoto But you got the key point exactly backwards: one-item-per-answer is what should be avoided, not what should be encouraged
Fair enough, I just find it ironic, that's all.

Ideas playing off of each other is how great policies are born. :) Or something like that.
@Pearsonartphoto I can't suggest an edit on meta, but "mute" should be "moot" in your question.
