I have just started reading a book about pandemics and the author points out that infections diseases play a role in several of Thomas Mann's works: Buddenbrooks, Magic Mountain, Death in Venice (obviously) and Doctor Faustus.
 
My immediate reaction was to just edit the question at the end out, but I'm not sure if what's left constitutes an answer
