@Bookworm I probably liked the story of Túrin Turambar most from the entire Silmarillion. It has a lot of classic tragic elements as far as I remember, a tragic hero dragging everyone around him down, unintentional incest, growing catatonic from tragic events, and a charismatic evil dragon on top of that. The influence from epic Nordic sagas is quite pulpable, too.

I might mix it up with a more elaborate version of it I might have read in some other conglomerate story collection, though. But its core story elements were definitely already part of the Silmarillion nevertheless.
