Sometimes I just have to take them off the bookshelf and stare at them because they are so beautiful. And these are just the 2018 Rick Riordan Presents titles! @Roshani_Chokshi @motomaratai @jencerv 😭😭❤️ So much more awesomeness to come!
I made a twitter list for nonbinary people working in SF&F fiction/art/publishing, like the list of Women in SF&F @Catrambo has been circulating, so... if you're a nonbinary, genderqueer, agender, or two-spirit person reply and I'll add you https://twitter.com/JoanneRixon/lists/nonbinary-people-in-f-sf

I'm constantly floored at how much amazingly high quality writing is available for free online immediately upon its release.
There's such an inertia to the idea that only old or bad writing is available legally for free.

Q: Why did Douglas Adams call Paul Neil Milne Johnstone the worst poet?

EJoshuaSDouglas Adams evidently named Paul Neil Milne Johnstone the worst poet in the universe in the original Hitchiker's Guide radio broadcast. Why him? Evidently they went to school together, but I still don't understand exactly what motivated Douglas Adams to name him the worst poet. Also, how did Jo...

@BESW That has always frustrated me - people complain about people charging for their writing, and then when they release awesome stuff for no money.... crickets

@neilhimself Without saying when and where, I took my mom to one of your speaking engagements. When you sat onstage, she stared at you like she had seen a ghost. She told me afterwards it was because you've shopped in my family's store and she thought you were homeless.

Q: From what did Roger Lancelyn Green get this?

heatherRoger Lancelyn Green is famous for his compilations of classic myths and tales for kids (I myself have a copy of his Egyptian myths and Norse myths along with his King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table). In his version of the tale of King Arthur, he says, on page 12 (Puffin Classics editi...

@Randal'Thor Jude is getting more interesting, now that I had some time to sit down with it.

@BESW I guess the rationale is "if it was good writing, they'd be able to make money out of it, so why aren't they selling it?"
"No man but a blockhead ever wrote, except for money." -- Samuel Johnson
@Mithrandir Great! How far have you got now?

@Randal'Thor Part Fifth.

@Bookworm Paging @Chenmunka, who actually lives in Avalon, for this one.
@Mithrandir Ugh, that's no help :-P Now I have to look up what happens in what Part.

@Randal'Thor JF is talking through the window to Arabella

@Mithrandir Ugh, that bloody woman.
(I just read a crappy online summary, so now I have some idea which part of the story Part Fifth is.)

"Part Fifth"? (I first thought that was a typo, but you hac since both called it that.)
(I alsi thought you stopped reading Jude thr Obscure after some oddly anti-semitic phrase put you off.)

Yesterday, as I told my comp class about style and audience and the need to write what one cares about for a reader who wants to understand, one student said the most important thing I've ever heard: "I've never had an audience in my life. My audience is a rubric."
Okay, so if vampires are coming back, can we agree on something? I know what you mean by it, and yeah, cool, but let's not use the phrase "My vampires aren't sparkly." Literally one writer ever did sparkly vampires. Like it or not, *she* was the innovator, there.
