@Gallifreyan @Hamlet @et.al I'm working on posting the announcement. I'm editing the previous announcement. What should I put in for tagging?
...I may just leave it blank, and let one of you edit it after.
...do we need or want anthology tags? *runs and hides from inevitable lengthy meta discussion*
...my local library doesn't have a copy, but I might see if the school does. (Never had much excuse to use the school library)

Q: Announcing the June 2017 topic challenge: The SEA is Ours

ShokhetIn accordance with our meta agreement to have topic challenges, seeing that the votes have stabilised, May is nearing its end, and it's time to announce the next topic challenge! Throughout June 2017, our topic challenge, proposed by BESW, will be Topic challenge: The SEA is Ours The SEA...

Q: Do we want anthology tags?

HamletOur next topic challenge will be the anthology The SEA is Ours. It's an anthology, meaning it's a collection of short stories. Should we have a The SEA is Ours tag?

1:06 AM
@BESW thanks for proposing this topic challenge: I'm really looking forward to it.

@Hamlet Yes, it sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

@Shokhet seems fairly common in libraries in the USA: I was able to find a copy (my local library had to request it from another library, but still)

1:25 AM
@Hamlet I live in one state and go to school in another, so I have cards for three library systems :) ...I've found nearby copies in other libraries, and I'll see what I can do about interlibrary loans.

Q: Why is the tense wrong in the beginning of The Stranger?

GGMGThe first lines of Albert Camus' The Stranger go something like this: Mother died today. Or, maybe, yesterday It's told in the present tense, as in, when Meursault is recounting the event it had happened that very same day. This tense continues for the next two paragraphs, emphasis mine: ...

...I still haven't checked the public library near my house (but I think my card is expired anyway, so it may not be worth the effort)

Ironically, it doesn't look like any of my local libraries have it.

2:44 AM
No one near me has it, I'd have to literally go to an American library in Rochester to get a copy

user15026
So if I am going to read it, I'm going to have to find my own copy somehow

3:17 AM
I'll probably order it from Powell's.

"On meeting an attractive woman — one who was not obviously the Most Significant Other of some male friend — he was inclined to touch her … not immediately on any Off Limits part of her anatomy but in a fairly fondling way. (When I called him on it once, he said, “It’s like the old saying. You get slapped a lot, but you get laid a lot, too.”)" You know that this is sexual harassment, right? — Hamlet 33 secs ago

What's the best resource for finding an over-the-phone literature tutor?

user15026
@Hero Likely going to depend on where you are and what sort of help you need and what like...grade level you're looking for and so on

In the US. The grade level of the material is Honors English Literature

user15026
No idea. I'm Canadian, so I'd have no idea where to start looking. I'm not sure if many others who pop in here would have better luck or not.

4:26 AM
@Hero have you talked to your teacher and asked what they recommend?
@BESW take a look at the book Authors and Owners by Mark Rose, which should give you some ideas about copyright

@Hamlet Does it speak to indigenous notions of ownership?

7:09 AM
I'm reasonably familiar with the history and contemporary issues of Western copyright, and am now trying to navigate the space between Western copyright and Pasifika ownership--especially as it relates to my role as a designer of Guamanian publications.

June's topic challenge is The SEA is Ours! View the list of asked questions (after it starts), and perhaps even ask your own (after it starts)!

@Mithrandir This month's topic challenge is Icelandic sagas.
It's not June yet :-)
Also, I made a new suggestion on the topic challenges list:

A: Suggest your Lit.SE reading challenges here!

Rand al'ThorAuthor challenge: Michael Ende We haven't had many german-literature questions yet, and what I've read of Ende's work is really fascinating, with some interesting ideas explored in unusual ways. From Wikipedia: Ende's writing could be described as a surreal mixture of reality and fantasy. T...

@Randal'Thor better?
@Randal'Thor I think I've heard of him.

@Mithrandir Heh. Or you could have just waited another 3 days :-)

@Randal'Thor ...oh, come on. Be serious :P

Come one, come alle! Be Seriouse!

@BESW fixed :P

Q: How does the Inspectors Speech contradict Birlings speech in the play "An Inspector Calls."

Cristiano RonaldoIn the play "An Inspector Calls" by J.B Priestley, Mr Birling gives a speech at the beginning of the play riddled with dramatic irony and selfish statements; he doesn't get to finish the speech as the Inspector arrives. Near the end of the play, after the Inspector exposes the Birlings for their ...

Q: Collection of short-stories for kids/teens

Olaf KlaussonAround 13-15 years ago i had a book (or 2!) which featured a collection of short-stories. It was written in German, i sadly remember neither the name of the book, nor the authors or publishers name. What i do remember is, that it featured stories of: Münchhausen Schildbürger Till Eulenspiegel ...

Q: In "Hard to Be a God", are "Sergei Kozhei", "George Lenny", "Sabine Kruger" real historical references?

Peter ShorThe main character's internal monolog at one point reads: You just want to kill. Yes, I do. And are you capable of it? ... the only thing I regret is killing her in vain. So they've almost taught me. But that's bad. That's dangerous. Remember Sergei Kozhin? And George Lenny? And Sabine Kr...

@Randal'Thor Congrats!
(Although some here might prefer that it wasn't that particular tag, but that's fine by me...)

@Shokhet Yeah, I'm expecting quite mixed reactions to that particular Taxonomist badge :-P
is close too.

@Randal'Thor It might have changed, but I think that each user is only eligible for only one Taxonomist badge. You might be stuck with that one :P
Do we know who "owns" ?
It'll probably hit 50 easily, given next month's topic challenge.

@Shokhet Oh, I don't mind. I've always been a supporter of ID questions, if not such an extreme one as, say, Gilles or 14111.

@Randal'Thor trying to find a gollem split personality gif and failing

@Shokhet fi12 according to this query, but it could be wrong - it attributes to Fiksdal and not me.

11:46 PM
@Randal'Thor Hm. Did you delete the first [tag:story:id] question? meta.stackexchange.com/q/16017/266359
(Does SEDE have records of deleted posts?)
Apparently, I don't any tags that are anywhere close. Hrmph. I do have , which has potential, I suppose.

@Shokhet No. Apparently Fiksdal posted the first one but it had a complicated history: literature.stackexchange.com/posts/233/revisions

@Shokhet Getting Taxonomist for individual author/work tags is going to happen eventually if they're popular authors/works, but it'll take a while.
The closest one is , and everyone is too scared to post an Orwell question now :-P

@Randal'Thor Lol.
I haven't read anything of his recently enough to ask a question.

I'm sure I'll come up with some more questions via Poe.
And then, yes, the topic challenge. I still need to look into getting hold of those stories.

11:53 PM
@Randal'Thor "Eventually" :P
