Q: Which combinatorial class do noncrossing partitions belong to?

The SubstituteLet $n$ be a nonnegative integer. The set $\lbrace 1,2,\ldots, n\rbrace$ is partitioned into blocks, with $p\left(n\right)$ possibilities (e.g., for permutations $p\left(n\right)=n!).$ For each block of size $i$, one of $m_i$ possible structures is chosen (for permutations, $m_i = \left(i-1\right...

In combinatorial mathematics, the topic of noncrossing partitions has assumed some importance because of (among other things) its application to the theory of free probability. The number of noncrossing partitions of a set of n elements is the nth Catalan number. The number of noncrossing partitions of an n-element set with k blocks is found in the Narayana number triangle. == Definition == A partition of a set S is a set of non-empty, pairwise disjoint subsets of S, called "parts" or "blocks", whose union is all of S. Consider a finite set that is linearly ordered, or (equivalently, for purposes...

Highy non-linear PDE involving directional derivative Is it suppose to say "Highly" rather than "Highy"? Or is it perhaps just some word I am unfamiliar with?

Q: Highy non-linear PDE involving directional derivative

MrPie Let the convolution of two function $f$ and $g$ be defined over $\mathbb{R}^3\times [0,\infty)$ as followed \begin{equation}\label{ConvoDef} \left(f*g\right)\circ(\textbf{x},t) = \int_{0}^{t}{\int_{\mathbb{R}^3}^{}{f(\textbf{x}-\textbf{y},t-s)g(\textbf{y},s)d\textbf{y}ds}} \end{equation} Let $$f(...

Q: Should tags be removed from spam?

Neil StricklandWhen flagging spam, I usually delete tags and replace them by tag-removed as well. I just received a comment suggesting that this is not useful. It probably doesn't matter much either way, as spam usually disappears quite quickly. Does anyone else have an opinion?

Q: Tagging spam / offensive questions

Andreas DolkDo we have recommended tags for obvious spam or offensive questions, like this one? For now I retagged it to [spam] just to get it out of the [java] view, but then I saw, that the [spam] tag is used for serious questions concerning spam too. Removing all tags is not possible so even spam messag...

Q: Should spam be tagged as [spam]?

Robert ColumbiaThere's a related question about editing the text of spam: Should spam posts be edited?. I've always understood this to include any sort of edits on a spam post, including tag edits. The tag exert for the Stack Overflow [spam] tag includes an explicit warning DO NOT USE THIS TAG ON QUESTIONS THA...
